ABB Strengthening Marine Presence In Brazil

An Azipod C factory is planned to better serve the growing market in Latin America May 25, 2010 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, is planning to strengthen its marine business presence in Brazil, in order to serve the growing market in Latin America more effectively. Latin America has quickly become a key strategic area for ABB’s marine business. Future plans, which include the establishment of a new Azipod C factory, marine service center and specialized Azipod service center, will help ABB to serve Brazil’s fast-growing shipbuilding industry and to fulfill the requirement for local content. “ABB’s innovative solutions and quality products have won us a leading position in high value added vessel segments, such as drillships, semi-submersible rigs, offshore supply vessels and shuttle tankers”, said Heikki Soljama, head of ABB’s Marine and Cranes Business Unit.“Our portfolio fits well into Brazil’s shipbuilding plans and development, and our investments show ABB’s commitment and confidence in the Brazilian market, and we believe this will gain us a preferred position to supply thrusters for 28 drilling units for Petrobras” Several locations have been evaluated for setting up the new Azipod factory, including Pernambuco, Santos, and Rio De Janeiro, although the final decision has yet to be taken. The planned factory will have the annual capacity of over 30 Azipod units

Rolls-Royce Expands in the Canary Islands

Rolls-Royce announced it has signed a cooperation agreement with the Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas, Canary Islands that it said will enhance the service capabilities of both parties to meet growing demand from rig and drillship owners. A new 1,980m2 service facility will be built by Astican for Rolls-Royce to service and overhaul the complete Rolls-Royce product range, including the simultaneous reconditioning of up to six Azimuth thruster units.

ZF Marine Restructures East Coast Activities

ZF Marine LLC, the North American subsidiary of ZF Marine Group in Padova, Italy has implemented some changes to its East Coast service network. CSSC Launches New Marine Service Business

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) said it has formally launched a new business CSSC Marine Service Co., Ltd, to coincide with the inauguration of its new logistics center within the Yangshang free trade zone, Shanghai.   The inauguration was marked with a ceremony on June 30, 2017, attended by more than 150 industry representatives from ship owning, managing and operating companies, along with key cooperation partners ABB, MAN PrimServ and WinGD.  

Aegean Marine, Freepoint Commodities Pact on Bunkering Sales

 Aegean Marine Petroleum Network and Caribbean Bunkers LLC have signed an agreement to cooperate on bunkering sales, focused around the US Virgin Islands facility at Limetree Bay, St. Croix.   Under terms of the agreement, Aegean will market bunker fuels and marine gas oil supplied by Freepoint to customers calling on the Limetree Bay Facility. The agreement calls for future expansion in the region that could lead to adding delivery capability through Aegean's owned fleet.

RJE to Build GE Gas Turbine Modules for Australian Navy Frigates

GE’s Marine Solutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with RJE Global, Morphettville, South Australia, whereby RJE will assemble GE LM2500 gas turbine modules and manufacture a number of components for this engine in support of the Royal Australian Navy’s new SEA 5000 frigate program. The MOU was signed by both companies recently at RJE’s facility in Adelaide.   The nine-ship SEA 5000 Future Frigate Program will replace the aging Anzac class frigates

In preparation for Hurricane Matthew, Commander, Navy Region Southeast (CNRSE) has ordered the mandatory evacuation for approximately 700 spouses and children on board Naval Station (NS) Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Navy Region Southeast is coordinating with U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Transportation Command for an airlift to transport family members via military aircraft to safe haven at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Fla. DBL Group Bangladesh Enters Dredging Market

Dhaka-based business conglomerate DBL Group has recently launched its dredging business, DBL Dredging. To support its entry into this new market it ordered two IHC Beaver 50 cutter suction dredgers (CSDs), and two Delta Multi Craft (DMC) 1050 work boats. The two IHC Beaver 50s were delivered with a spud carrier pontoon, anchor boom installation, production measuring system and dredge track presentation system (DTPS). This will enable DBL to perform an efficient dredging operation

Aegean Marine Rolls out New Market in Rostock, Germany

 Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. has announced the launch of a new service center in Rostock, Germany that will serve all German Baltic Sea ports and Southern Scandinavian ports.     The operations at Rostock will be managed by the existing team at OBAST Bunkering & Trading GmbH (OBAST), a physical bunker supplier and cargo oil trader. Under the terms of the agreement with OBAST, Aegean will acquire OBAST's existing share capital.

Aegean Marine Strengthens Presence on the U.S. East Coast

 Aegean Marine Petroleum Network has announced the launch of a new service center in Savannah, Georgia, the third largest container port in the United States.       The operations in Savannah will be managed by the existing Aegean U.S. team.  Under the terms of the agreement with Colonial Terminals, Inc., Aegean will lease tankage from Colonial's oil terminal on the Savannah River.
