Moran Commissions 10th Z-Drive Tug

Moran Towing has commissioned Diane Moran, its 10th Z-drive tugboat, which was recently christened in a ceremony in New York Harbor, will be used in harbor services. Currently, Moran's other Z-drive tugs are used by the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command in Norfolk, Va., and for harbor services in the port of Charleston, S.C. Fishing Vessel and Tanker Collide

Humber Coastguard received a MAY DAY call from the 13 metre fishing vessel Aquarius reporting they were taking in water with 3 persons on board approximately 16 miles East of Amble. Aquarius reported that they had been involved in a collision moments earlier with the 56,000 Tonne Bahamian tanker Alpha Germania, which was in ballast and on passage to Teesport. Humber Coastguard requested the launch of RNLI Amble Lifeboat and the Rescue Helicopter from RAF Boulmer

Semi-submersible Drilling Rig Grounds off Scotland

Severe weather has caused semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean Winner to break free from tow and run aground off the western isles of Scotland, the U.K. Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.   There are no personnel on board the rig and there is no risk to life, MCA said. Update: Oil Rig Aground off Scotland

No further pollution has been detected in the area of the grounded oil rig Transocean Winner as the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) continues to monitor the scene.   The MCA counter pollution surveillance aircraft yesterday flew over the location and surrounding area to make careful observations for pollution around the rig and the nearby coast and sea and no sheen or sign of pollution has been found.

USNS Shasta Rescues Five After Fire Strikes Cargo Ship

Civil service mariners aboard Military Sealift Command ammunition ship USNS Shasta (T-AE 33) rescued all crew members aboard a disabled commercial cargo ship May 12 in the Western Pacific near Saipan. Just after sunset, Shasta received a request from the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet Battle Watch Center to assist the ill-fated MV Haurosi, which reported a major engine room fire. Traveling at full-speed, Shasta made the 90-mile voyage to Haurosi’s location in just over four hours

Load Cells for Offshore Mooring Project

Tug Newbuild Alcor Delivered to Navibulgar

On June 2, 2017, MTG-Dolphin Shipyard delivered to Navigation Maritime Bulgare (Navibulgar) JSC the tug Alcor, the first of three vessels in series built to the RAmparts 2700 design by Robert Allan Ltd.   The tug adds to the fleet of four tugboats in the Navibulgar fleet and is the first tugboat built by the Bulgarian shipyard MTG Dolphin PLC-Varna for the Bulgarian ship owner, who owns more than 30 bulk carriers.

The Great Lakes Towing Company said it has repositioned its Tug Huron to Duluth, Minn. on Monday, January 2, 2017 to enhance capabilities for icebreaking, harbor assist and other services essential to commercial shipping in the Duluth-Superior region.   The Tug Huron’s first icebreaking operation of 2017 took place late Wednesday evening, January 4 when she assisted longstanding customer, Canada Steamship Lines M/V Thunder Bay in the Port of Duluth.
