Aalborg Reports Record Marine Boiler Sales in 2001

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 11, 2002

Aalborg Industries closed year 2001 with the highest total of marine boilers ever sold during a year. Aalborg also reported that its marine turnover was also the highest ever, and the same goes for the order backlog of marine boilers. The new MISSION series of boilers had an exceptional year during which especially the MISSION D-type boilers made a breakthrough in the Korean and Chinese tanker markets. A steadily increasing number of Aalborg Industries boilers for Japan, Korea and China are contracted for production at our boiler factory in Qingdao/China, and the production facilities are again being expanded while training in the use of new technology and in quality assurance are ongoing.

To keep up with demand, Aalborg Industries is also modernizing its boiler factory in Denmark with new tube cutting robots and other automated tube bending and welding machines. Craftsmanship is, however, still what defines a leading boiler manufacturer, and Aalborg Industries is proud to have some of the world’s finest boilermakers with equally high qualifications and ISO 9001 certification in all its factories around the world.

During the year, the Aalborg Industries companies in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Korea, USA/Houston and Hong Kong renewed their ISO 9001/9002 certification under the new ISO 9001:2000. The Aalborg Industries group companies have achieved ISO certification according to the new 2000-standard as one of the first boiler manufacturers in the world. In the beginning of 2002, the factories in Indonesia and Brazil will obtain ASME certification while the Danish factory has had its ASME certifications for years. Engineering of the new maritime waste heat recovery boiler behind a gas turbine was completed, and the first two MISSION WHR-GT were manufactured for cruise ships at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France. A new cargo heater from the group’s heater unit in Aalborg has also been developed and tested and has already been well received by the market.
