IMUA Intro to Commercial Inland Marine Course 2013
The Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) announced the 2014 dates for its Introduction to Commercial Inland Marine course. The two-day Introduction to Commercial Inland Marine course will be held at IMUA Headquarters, 14 Wall St., NYC, on September 19 & 20, 2013 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
This two-day introductory course is designed to cover the basics of commercial inland marine insurance, with emphasis on the largest/key inland marine classes of business.
“This intense two-day course is intended primarily for the new hires/trainees or for more experienced property/package underwriters and agents/brokers looking to broaden their knowledge of commercial inland marine insurance,” Kevin O’Brien, IMUA President & CEO. “The course is pending approval for 15 Continuing Education Credits. Continuing Education credit will only apply to classroom attendees, not remote attendees.”
Among the topics covered during the two-day IMUA course are:
•Industry Overview: including filed vs. non-filed classes and the Nationwide Marine Definition (NWMD)
•Contractors Equipment: types of equipment/operations, underwriting factors, policy terms and conditions
•Transportation: legal issues, types and key elements of coverage, financial and underwriting concerns
•Construction/Builders Risk: exposures and types of coverage, parties to the contract, COPE, soft and hard costs
•Fine Arts: commercial and personal, industry forms, valuation surveys, fixed location/transit/exhibition
•Loss Prevention & Claims: insured management practices to mitigate claims and lessons from losses
O’Brien noted that course presenters are seasoned industry experts comprised of IMUA Board members, IMUA Technical Committee chairs/members and/or line of business specialists. This year’s presenters include Steven Silverman, AIG; Jennifer Schipf, XL Insurance; Barry Tarneff, Chubb; and Michael Reich, Hiscox.
IMUA will provide the option to take part in the course as Distance Learning Students (DLS). “Participating as DLS provides our member companies with the opportunity to ‘train’ their employees remotely anywhere in the Continental U.S. DLS receive a computer password access and dial in codes. They simply log on, phone in, and attend the course remotely. This option also includes audio-visual capability using Microsoft Live Meeting to optimize the interactive experience. This enables them to not only see and hear the proceeding, as well as ask questions,” O’Brien said.
Because of the nature of the course outline, space is limited. In person attendance is limited to 20 people and distance learning is limited to 25 sites. Distance learning will be charged per person, not per site or computer -- and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The cost for the two-day program is $400 for employees of IMUA Member Companies attending in-person and $350 for employees of IMUA Member Companies attending as distance learners. For employees of IMUA non-member companies the cost is $600 for in-person attendance and $550 for distance learners.
Costs include continental breakfast, breaks; a lunch and manual with all handout materials including copies of PowerPoint slides for all in-person attendees. For Distance Learning Student (DLS) they receive free 1-800 connectivity plus a hard copy manual with all handout materials including copies of PowerPoint slides.
