Eniram Launches 3 New Energy Savers

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

September 10, 2015

Eniram Ltd, a provider of energy management and fuel-saving technology and analytic services to the shipping industry, announced the release of three new products aiming to help save fuel and optimize energy usage on vessels.

The company has launched the upgraded speed optimization solution Eniram Speed 3.0, Eniram Performance 3.0 data analytic software, as well as Eniram Fleet Route KPIs designed to support improved routing.

Eniram Speed 3.0
Improving on past version Eniram Speed 2.0, the new Eniram Speed 3.0 takes into account factors such as the prevailing sea state, in computing and recommending best speed profile to consume least energy and thus save fuel. The system takes into account factors such as the prevailing weather, weather forecasts, required engine loads, as well as squat, speed restrictions and ECA areas.

Speed 3.0 includes new features such as combined sea current and tidals, map assisted route setup, map assisted USB route uploading and Furuno FMD ECDIS support. Real weather forecasts are now also supported for cruise vessels.

According to the developer, key benefits and new features of Speed 3.0 are the optimization of route based on high-resolution weather and combined sea current and tidal data. The accurate forecast minimizes the need for adjustment and thus enhances usability and improves speed recommendations. With the map assisted route setup, officers can now visually see the route that they have uploaded on a map. Officers can interact directly with the map to quickly insert the few parameters they need to setup saving officers work time.

“Thanks to these new enhancements, ship operators will be able to better plan, operate and maintain timely voyages at the lowest possible fuel consumption,” said Jussi Pyörre, Eniram’s VP Technology, Eniram. “Using Speed 3.0 means there is less to configure and savings are achieved easier. On average, operators can expect savings between 2-6 percent.”

Eniram Performance 3.0
Eniram has released Eniram Performance 3.0, an upgrade specific to the cruise vessel market.

Eniram Performance is a decision-support tool offering real-time operational guidance to optimize a vessel’s overall energy management in order to save fuel. The system predicts required energy and fuel consumption taking into consideration a wide range of variables such as wind and currents for each specific voyage.

The Key Performance Indicator (KPI) screen works like an electronic scorecard, showing traffic light values against commonly-agreed targets. The KPI screen starts with a high-level KPI, namely the total fuel consumption on the vessel which is then broken down to specific energy consumers like propulsion and service power. Service Power is, for instance, further split down to Hotel, Machinery and HVAC.

Eniram Performance 3.0’s widget offers operational guidance, KPI view, KPI integration for the onshore fleet, and a visual energy tree which reveals expected and actual fuel consumption for the whole voyage both in monetary and Megawatt-hours (MWh) values. Normalizing KPIs, comparisons and tracking of energy efficiency operation on-board can be done interdependently of operational area or season.

Detailed analysis can also be viewed at all times onboard the ship. Easy-to-interpret benchmark graphs and reports help the crew to identify the key areas for savings potential by revealing performance deviations and monitoring selected performance parameters.

When Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines were designing the 18-deck, 168,666 GT state-of-the art Quantum of the Seas cruise ship, the company turned to Eniram to provide tools to holistically optimize ship energy management in addition to manage trim and speed as part of an industry-first ship-wide energy management system (EMS).

The new version of Eniram Performance for Cruise vessels is currently operational on two vessels in addition to Quantum of the Seas. Now through the enhanced KPI feature, officers, engineers as well as onshore personnel can continually monitor, communicate and discuss the overall performance of a vessel as needed to ensure optimal fuel and energy use.

Eniram Fleet Route KPIs
Eniram Fleet Route KPIs is a new solution delivered via Eniram Fleet, a proprietary web-based application that enables ship owners and operators, to gather, store and analyze data such as fuel consumption per engine, engine power, speed-power and LNG tank data across an entire fleet.

The system enables fleet managers to identify savings in key areas by flagging performance deviations and monitoring specific performance parameters. A breakdown of propulsion power data can be used to pinpoint areas of energy loss due to affects such as changing weather conditions, including wind and sea state.

Eniram Fleet Route KPIs offers deeper insight for each vessel. Key elements of the Route service include illustrations of individual vessel routing performance against other industry vessels and simulation of all the recorded tracks against sailed dates and conditions. After the leg has been sailed, Eniram Fleet runs the simulation and KPIs for the route are given. Comparing a vessel’s performance on the same leg helps find optimal routes. All information is delivered in graphic and map format via the web-based interface.

The Route KPIs are based on ranking from 1-10 indicating the position in the industry, lower rankings beimg better. For example “cost ranking 2″ means the leg was sailed within 20 percent of the best in the industry. A cost efficient routing is a balance of the components. Ranking components include, for example, current, mean wind, distance over ground, ECA-areas, distance inside MARPOL areas and squat. For exact routing advice, Eniram offers additional services.

Commenting on this new solution, Eniram CEO, Henrik Dahl, said, “Eniram Route KPIs offer savings by revealing the weakest areas in routing so the customer knows the areas to concentrate on. With our enhanced route advice capabilities, we can further support crew decision making based on a unique simulation and KPI approach.”
