Ocean Safety’s new commercial twin chamber lifejacket range, the K2 275N, will be making its U.K. debut at Seawork. This jacket is compact and easy to wear, yet fully functional for demanding maritime conditions, the manufacturer said.

At Seawork the K2 will be offered in an enhanced package. The K2 already includes a powerful AQ40L light as standard and now has the optional addition of the Kannad R10 AIS Survivor Recovery System (SRS).

The new K2 range offers a twin and single chamber lifejacket that is approved to SOLAS MED Ship’s Wheel and is manufactured under the accredited Lloyds Register ISO 9001 quality system. The K2 is designed to be extremely compact and unobtrusive and is available with or without a sprayhood. It is wearable by professional mariners at sea and personnel working next to water. The pre-fitted SOLAS-approved low-profile AQ40L light is water activated and emits more than 40 hours of continuous light, five times the SOLAS minimum standard.  It is also three times brighter, beaming a powerful 2.5cd of light.

The K2 comes as standard with the Kannad R10 AIS SRS fitting point but at Seawork Ocean Safety will be presenting the lifejacket with the R10 ready fitted to demonstrate its capability as a high performance lifejacket for extreme conditions.

The Kannad R10 uses AIS (Automatic Identification System) to send an alert message, GPS position and a special identity code directly which will be picked up by AIS receivers on the crew member’s vessel and other vessels within a four mile radius.  Knowing accurately the person’s position in the sea will give the best chance of location and recovery.

The K2 also provides over 300N of buoyancy from both or either chamber.  This is controlled via inbuilt pressure relief valves providing the maximum in performance and safety.  Self righting capabilities and fast inflation are assured with the use of 2 x 60g Co2 cylinders.

The lifejacket has all the features that would be expected in a high specification jacket, including quick burst zip closers, crotch strap, buddy line, harness, whistle and lifting beckets.
