Lloyd’s Register Americas Announces New Management Structure

Lloyd’s Register Americas, Inc. has strengthened its marine business organization to enhance the support it provides to clients throughout North and South America. With approximately 200 employees and a growing presence in the Americas, the strategically aligned management structure will help Lloyd’s Register sharpen its focus on client relationships and better facilitate the services it provides. Tim Protheroe has been appointed Senior Vice President - Americas Marine Business. He will have full executive responsibility for marine activities in the Americas and for implementing Lloyd’s Register’s global marine strategies in the region. Protheroe joined Lloyd’s Register in 1992, providing consultancy services to ship operators for the establishment of safety and quality management systems in London, Copenhagen, Miami, and Seattle before arriving in Houston in late 2003 to oversee business development in the Americas. Reporting directly to Protheroe, the members of the Americas marine management team are responsible for all activities in their respective locations, from business development to service delivery. Peter Brock, former President of Lloyd’s Register North America, retired at the end of August after 35 years of service. Graham Brown, Vice President and Marine Business Manager for US East Coast and the Caribbean, has 45 years of experience in the marine industry. After training in naval architecture with the UK Ministry of Defence, he spent 20 years in management of new construction and conversion projects. He joined Lloyd’s Register in 1981, and after an initial three years with Lloyd’s Register in London and Newcastle, he transferred to the US in 1984. José Ferreira, Vice President and Marine Business Manager for South America, joined Lloyd’s Register in 1974 as a marine surveyor. In his current role José is responsible for all aspects of the marine business throughout South America. Bud Streeter, Vice President and Marine Business Manager for Canada, started his career at the Canadian Coast Guard College in 1969 as an engineering cadet. His career includes several executive positions at Marine Atlantic Inc. and Transport Canada, and heading Canada’s delegation to various Committees of the International Maritime Organisation. Bud joined Lloyd’s Register in April, 2002, and, in addition to his business management responsibilities, he is currently the Canadian lead for Lloyd’s Register in the area of maritime security. He is a serving member of the Canadian Advisory Council on National Security. John Hicks, Business Manager for Passenger Ships and Americas Design Support Office, has a naval architecture degree from the US Coast Guard Academy and two master’s degrees in naval architecture and aerospace. In 1997 John joined Lloyd’s Register in London dealing with the safety aspects of new construction of megayachts and passenger ships, including plan approval and shipyard verification. Lorenzo Perez, Marine Business Manager for US Gulf Coast and West Coast, Panama and Mexico, began his career with Lloyd’s Register in 1980 as a site surveyor inspecting new offshore gas platforms, drilling units, and a nuclear power station. He was involved in industrial-services surveys and quality management services, including assessments for ISO 9000 standards, throughout Latin America before taking on his current role. Colin Packer, Technical Performance Manager, joined Lloyd’s Register in 1983 as a surveyor in Newcastle Upon Tyne and was Surveyor-in-Charge in several UK and Middle East offices. Colin is responsible for ensuring that appropriate levels of technical competency are developed and maintained by the marine technical staff undertaking survey work in the Americas and acts as a focal point for resolution of technical issues associated with delivering such survey work and Port-State-Control-related work. Colin also serves as Executive Chairman of the Houston Devolved Classification Executive.
