Gulf Island Fabrication has announced that its Shipyard Division has successfully delivered the M/V Ted C. Litton, a Z-Tech 30-80 Terminal/Escort Tug to Suderman & Young Towing Company.The M/V Ted C. Litton was designed by Robert Allan Ltd of Vancouver, BC. and built at Gulf Island’s, Jennings, Louisiana facilities. The vessel will be operated by G &H Towing on behalf of Suderman & Young Towing Company. Electronic Inclinometer for Tugboat Safety
Danish marine safety equipment manufacturer, Daniamant, has launched a tugboat version of its renowned Electronic Inclinometer, an advanced heel and pitch measuring device. The DanEI-300T fulfils the most recent Bureau Veritas Group’s regulations for escort tugboats and is approved by German BSH to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) performance standard MSC.363(92):2013. Bureau Veritas’ classification rules in the January 2019 edition stipulate that escort tugboats must be equipped with a calibrated heeling angle measurement system, otherwise referred to as an inclinometer.
Next Generation of Z-Tech Tugs Arrive
At the end of 2018, Gulf Island Shipyards completed the first of ten Z-Tech 30-80 tugs, five of which were ordered by Bay Houston Towing Company through its operator G & H Towing Company in Galveston, Texas. The Z-Tech 30-80 tug Mark E. Kuebler evolved from the previous Z-Tech 7500 design for the same owner. Once again, the design team and client worked seamlessly addressing operational challenges the vessel will face. A main feature of this latest Z-Tech is incorporating Robert Allan Ltd.’s unique RAstar series sponsoned hull form into the existing Z-Tech design.

Cheoy Lee Shipyards Delivers Tug Duo
Florida-based Cheoy Lee Shipyards have delivered two more Z-Tech tugs, PSA Polaris and PSA Capella, to PSA Marine, Singapore. This time was the Z-Tech 5000 version with newly re-styled deckhouse and wheelhouse in addition to its already unique appearance. US Navy Orders Four New Tugs
The U.S. Navy has ordered four new tugs from Anacortes, Wash. shipbuilder Dakota Creek Industries Inc., with options for two additional vessels. Construction of the series′ first vessel is expected to begin in early in 2019.The vessels will be a new version of the Robert Allan Ltd. designed Z-Tech 4500 tugs. The Navy already has six vessels of this design, known as the YT 802 Class, in service.
