Maersk Tankers Hires Bisgaard as Chief Commercial Officer

Maersk Tankers announced it has appointed Eva Birgitte Bisgaard as its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) effective October 1.Bisgaard will joining Maersk Tankers after 19 years with the Danish Telco operator TDC, during which time she held a wide range of senior management positions. For the past three years, she was Senior Vice President of the consumer unit YouSee. Previously, she held commercial vice president positions in the company’s business-to-business divisions.At Maersk Tankers, Bisgaard will spearhead the company’s commercial engagement with partners and customers.

A.P. Moller Holding Appoints Jan T. Nielsen as CIO

Jan Thorsgaard Nielsen, Senior Managing Director of Blackstone, is appointed Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of A/S. A P Moller Holding (APMH). APMH is a privately owned holding company and is the biggest shareholder in A P Moller-Maersk (APM), the Danish shipping giant. Jan T. Nielsen holds a Cand. Oecon. from Aarhus University, Denmark, and has been with Blackstone since 2005. He started working for Blackstone in London as an associate and was subsequently promoted to principal and Managing Director. During this time, Jan T. Nielsen was also involved in investments related to the Nordic market, including the investment in TDC and Merlin’s investment in the LEGOLAND Parks.

European Consortium Launches Blue Nodules Project

On 1 February a European consortium launched a new Horizon 2020 project: Blue Nodules. This project addresses the challenge of creating a viable and sustainable value chain to retrieve polymetallic nodules from the ocean floor. It will develop and test new highly-automated and sustainable technologies for deep-sea mining with minimal environmental pressures. The technical side of the project is dedicated to subsea harvesting equipment in addition to the in-situ seafloor and sea surface processing of polymetallic nodules. The operational aspect focuses on sea operations and logistics, including compliance with, and development of, rules and regulations, and the business case.

Marine Survey Company Avoids Storm

On Wednesday April 24, the marine survey company EIVA a/s published its 2012 Annual Report. The offshore specialist thereby concludes a financial year where its activities have been characterised by growth, with high expectations for 2013. While many businesses are still experiencing weak demand, EIVA a/s can look back on a very satisfactory year in the offshore industry. EIVA has provided hardware and software for businesses specialised in energy, engineering and surveys at sea since 1978, which the annual report published today demonstrates through strong results that are the best the company has seen the last 35 years. While the revenue declined by nearly DKK 6 m due to reduced sales of third-party equipment, the number of own products sold advanced.

Danish Ocean Research Vessel Keel Laid

The hull of the new vessel is being built in Szczecin, Poland, for later delivery for completion at Denmark's Hvide Sande Ship & Bådebyggeri yard. The Roman goddess Aurora gives her name to Aarhus University's new research vessel which from the summer of 2014 should be ready to sail. "The keel on the 28 meter long ship has just been completed and construction is progressing according to plan. Aurora is a very flexible ship that can be adapted for many different tasks. She can really reinvent herself every morning", says Torben Vang, skipper of the new research vessel.
