Wilhelmsen Leverages Data on DNV GL’s Veracity Platform

Wilhelmsen is exploring concrete ways of leveraging their data on DNV GL’s Veracity industry platform. In one of the first data sharing pilot projects on the new open platform, Wilhelmsen is testing a system to share ship compliance and condition data with port state authorities to reduce paper work and physical inspections when entering ports. “As ships and their systems become more sophisticated, we have more equipment with sensors onboard that are generating and sharing data.

Partners Set Out to Boost Maritime Comms

A collaboration between Orange Business Services and BlueTide Communications aims to deliver comprehensive maritime communications, reaching almost every sea and ocean around the world. The combination of Orange’s global satellite network with BlueTide’s specialized maritime solutions will power the navigation, cyber security, voice and video, corporate applications and asset management for vessels in the workboat industry. Orange said it is providing BlueTide with managed global Ku band VSAT capacity, with the ability to switch to alternative satellite beams  for seamless global coverage. BlueTide can provide vessels with live video surveillance, cyber security and systems monitoring, all high-end solutions delivered on the Orange network for seamless availability on a global scale.

MTN explains that this advanced hybrid network enables satellite and terrestrial broadband connectivity for higher performance connections on large vessels both at-sea and in-port. With approximately 4,000 guests and 1,600 crew, the new cruise ship Norwegian Getaway is the first to showcase one of the most visionary communications solutions at sea today. While sailing in the open sea is a remote experience, guests and crew members don’t want to leave their “connected lives” back in port.

Thrane & Thrane Introduces Maritime High-Speed Terminal

Thrane & Thrane introduces its new maritime high-speed terminal, Capsat® Fleet77.Orders for more than DKK 14 million have been received. Shipment of the Capsat® Fleet77 will commence soon. As the first manufacturer Thrane & Thrane will introduce a new maritime high-speed terminal for Inmarsat’s Fleet F77 service. The new terminal, Capsat® Fleet77, is a competitive alternative to the present Inmarsat-B terminals typically used on large merchant and fishing vessels. This is a new market for Thrane & Thrane and has an annual value of approximately $30 million. Since the Capsat® Fleet77 was unveiled at the Europort fair in November 2001, Thrane & Thrane has received orders for more than $2 million from approximately 30 distribution partners. Shipment of the Capsat® Fleet77 will commence soon.

SBM Offshore to Employ Aspen Applications

Aspen Technology, Inc. announced that SBM Offshore has signed a multi-year license agreement to expand its use of AspenTech's engineering solutions. The new agreement provides access to applications including Aspen HYSYS and the Aspen HYSYS Upstream option which are key components of the integrated aspenONE for Oil & Gas solutions. SBM will use the applications to support the design and optimization of new and existing oil and gas production facilities. Earlier agreements were signed by several SBM Offshore Group companies - GustoMSC, SBM-Imodco and Single Buoy Moorings - in which they adopted Aspen HYSYS as their standard simulation platform.
