LM2500 Gas Turbine Powers Turkish Navy's MILGEM Corvette

GE’s Marine Solutions announced that the Turkish Navy’s third MILGEM multi-purpose corvette TCG Burgazada was launched powered by a GE LM2500 gas turbine-based propulsion system. The launch ceremony was held in mid-June at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard; a keel laying ceremony was also held for sister MILGEM ship TCG Kınalıada. The propulsion system for TCG Burgazada (F-513) is the same as sisters TCG Heybeliada (F-511) and TCG Büyükada (F-512), consisting of an LM2500 gas turbine in a combined diesel and gas turbine configuration with two diesel engines. Total propulsion power is 31,000 kilowatts, allowing the ships to reach maximum speed in excess of 29 knots. The corvettes have an overall length of 99 meters with a displacement of 2,300 tons.

GE Gas Turbines to Power Turkish Corvettes

GE Marine announced it has signed a contract with Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik Ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM), Ankara, Turkey, whereby GE will provide STM with LM2500 gas turbines. The engines will power the Turkish Navy’s third and fourth MILGEM multi-purpose corvettes, GE reported today during the IDEF ’15 industry trade show. STM is the program manager for these new two ships, and will provide platform systems, construction materials, design services and the main propulsion systems, as well as integration of the propulsion system.

ST Engineering Raises Cap In STET

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that ST Education & Training Private Limited (“STET”) has increased its issued and paid up capital from S$1m to S$2m. This increase in paid-up capital is by way of a bonus issue of 1,000,000 ordinary shares of S$1 each. This bonus issue is based on the ratio of one new share for every one existing share by way of capitalisation of the revenue reserve account. STET is 70% owned by ST Electronics (Training & Simulation Systems) Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited, the electronics arm of ST Engineering. HII Hosts STEM Call-to-Collaboration Conference

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) informs that it has hosted a STEM Workforce Call-to-Collaboration conference to help increase the quality of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and the quantity of STEM-educated graduates for the future workforce. Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that Don Perkins has been named vice president of contracts and pricing for the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. Operationally, Perkins' organization is responsible for contract administration, proposal formulation, estimating, pricing, negotiations, contract awards and change orders, as well as management of contractual risks and mitigation strategies. Perkins' shipbuilding experience began with an apprenticeship program and comprises more than 30 years of his career, including seven years as contracts director at Ingalls from 2002 to 2009.

Major new project increases safety and reduces risk of flow line installation. Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies (KOGT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kongsberg Gruppen ASA, has signed an agreement to supply a flexible risers and umbilicals installation system for the ‘Capstan Reel Installation System’ (CRIS), to the Offshore Installation Group (OIG).
