The Environmental Age: What Will Power Future Ships?

KVNR Recognizes KOTUG for Hybrid Tugs

The Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) has awarded its Shipping Award to Netherlands-based towage operator KOTUG for its next-generation ART80-32 Hybrid Rotortugs. The award was presented during the 10th Dutch Maritime Awards Gala in Rotterdam by Tineke Netelenbos, chairman of the KVNR Shipping Award jury, who stated, “The propulsion configuration of these new-generation ART80-32 Hybrid Rotortugs series draws on the proven design of KOTUG’s RT Adriaan, world’s first hybrid Rotortug built under class. In 2012 KOTUG retrofitted this conventional Rotortug into a hybrid Rotortug.

Europort’s Masterclasses in Leadership

Recognising that effective leadership and collaboration are fundamental elements in the future success of the maritime industry, Europort 2015 will feature a series of masterclasses as part of this year’s conference programme. Each masterclass will address the leadership challenges currently facing the industry across the areas of design, technology, efficiency and human capital. Domino’s recently made headlines with pizzas being delivered to doorsteps by drones. Google describes their self-driving car as ‘the realization of a science fiction dream’. There are a number of examples of autonomous vehicles on land and the technology themed masterclass sessions will delve into this hot topic and the effects it could have on the shipping industry.

Alewijnse to Attend Defense Symposium Following Naval Orders

Alewijnse’s International Switchboard Production division will have a stand at this year’s 25th Netherlands Industries for Defense & Security symposium and exhibition. This follows work by Alewijnse in recent years on a number of naval projects, including the electrical installation for the 28,000-metric-ton Joint Support Ship, currently being fitted out at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding, Vlissingen. Experience gained on this vessel plus on other projects including the supply of Combat Management Consoles directly to the Dutch navy has given Alewijnse valuable insights into the demands and high level specifications required by naval shipyards when it comes to building switchboards and other mission-critical electrical infrastructure.

Minister Calls for Level Playing Field at Europort

A call for sustained innovation and an ‘international level playing field’ on environmental regulation greeted global maritime and offshore business leaders today, as Melanie Schultz van Haegen, Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands opened Europort 2013 at Ahoy Rotterdam. Addressing an invited audience that included ambassadors and shipowners from around the world, as well as trade mission delegations from China, Russia and Brazil, Mrs. Schultz said the challenges facing the sector needed frontrunners who want to innovate. “We need pioneers.” she said.

Europort Captures Global Industry Mood

Two weeks before the doors open at Europort, Rotterdam, organizer Ahoy is finalizing arrangements for the event that promises to provide a benchmark for the “state of the global maritime and offshore industry” in late 2013. Alongside attendees at its Advanced Technology Conferences industry seminars and networking opportunities, over 1,000 exhibitors will be present at Europort 2013, which takes place November 5-8 at Ahoy Rotterdam. This year, companies from 39 countries will participate, with international organizations accounting for 45% of all exhibitors. “Technical innovators will populate all 10 of the Ahoy exhibition halls”, said Raymond Siliakus, Europort Exhibition Manager.

Advanced Technology Conferences at Ahoy Rotterdam 2013

In cooperation with Holland Marine Equipment (HME), Europort again present the “Advanced Technology Conferences” 5-8, November 2013, where leading national & international market players will showcase the advanced technology used to build the world’s most sophisticated ships. For many years Europort has had a strong focus on building complex special purpose ships. In a series of short dynamic workshops Europort visitors will get an update about the latest innovations in maritime technology. Each workshop focusses on a specific maritime industry with its own themes, developments and target of audience. The workshops take place in the Europort Theatre and access to the workshops is free of charge.

Europort Brings Offshore Shipbuilding into Focus

The offshore market remains buoyant, with exploration and production driving new fleet investment, design innovation in vessel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Operations in more challenging offshore environments are also demanding enhanced vessel maneuverability, station-keeping and overall safety, in line with tightening regulations. Equipment Manufacturers to Meet Shipbuilders in Nanjing, China

The maritime exhibition CIMPS-Europort 2012 will be held from 23 – 25 May in Nanjing, the capital of the province of Jiangsu. This province is the top shipbuilding region of China. With more than 80 large shipyards, shipbuilding in Jiangsu comprises 35% of the total shipbuilding output in China. No less than 39% of all new shipbuilding orders in China are realised in Jiangsu. The Jiangsu region is increasingly orientated towards advanced technology and 'special purpose ships'. The local supply industry cannot meet the greatly increased demand, so that approximately 70% of all products are imported, which offers opportunities for international maritime suppliers.

Alewijnse Presents its Revolutionary River Radar

Alewijnse Marine Systems is introducing a revolutionary river radar based on the latest technology and including many new features. The Inland Navigation Radar is being presented for the first time at the Europort exhibition from November 8 to 11 in Ahoy, Rotterdam, and will be available in early 2012. Innovative features of the new Alewijnse radar include the simultaneous overlay of AIS information on the radar image, and the exceptional quality of the digital signal transmitted between the radar scanner and 22-inch widescreen display.

This morning, the maritime exhibition Europort Istanbul 2011 was opened with great ceremony by Mr. Hamza Taşkeser, Assistant Undersecretary for Turkish Maritime Affairs. Europort 2009 Sold Out

In a time where the maritime market struggles with the effects of the economic recession, the need for a maritime meeting place seems larger than ever. The exhibition Europort, that was held in Rotterdam from 3 until 6 November in Ahoy Rotterdam, saw a record number of 900 exhibitors from 35 countries this year. This was the first time the exhibition was completely sold out. The central exhibition theme this year was Advanced Technology, imagination becoming reality. Over 31.000 maritime professionals visited Europort.
