Belgian offshore installation company DEME said Friday that its 'revolutionary' new offshore installation vessel 'Orion' this week docked for the first time at the company's base near Vlissingen, in the Netherlands.The  DP3 installation vessel Orion is equipped with a 5,000-tonne crane, built to handle the next generation of offshore wind farm components."Orion’ is now being prepared for its first project… and for the official naming ceremony taking place soon!," DEME said in a social media post.Worth noting, the Orion's delivery is a belated one. Namely, in May 2020, an incident happened at crane maker Liebherr's yard in Rostock, Germany, when the Orion's giant crane collapsed onto the vessel during crane load tests, injuring several people.

A giant crane collapsed on Saturday on Deme Offshore's flagship offshore vessel Orion at Liebherr's yard in Rostock, Germany, during crane load tests.Deme said Saturday that "a few persons suffered minor injuries." Deme Offshore said: "A serious accident has occurred today on board of offshore installation vessel ‘Orion 1’ at the occasion of and during crane load tests. UK engineering company JGC Engineering and Technical Serviceshas, on behalf of Siemens, completed the construction of high voltage equipment containers for the Moray East offshore substation platforms."The Moray East offshore windfarm project completed its first fabrication milestone as the Thurso SME engineering firm finalised work on the containers which will be fitted in the three offshore substation platforms," said a press release from Siemens.JGC fabricated eight of 12 containers at its site in Thurso and have also supported Siemens with other offshore projects in the UK.The containers’ total length, height and volume are larger than an Airbus A380 aircraft which highlights the impressive feat Siemens and JGC have completed together.

ABB will deploy 40 special transformers to equip wind turbines for an offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea. The MHI Vestas Offshore Wind turbines are 195 m (640 ft) tall - around two-thirds the height of the Eiffel Tower - and weigh 1000 metric tons, approximately double a fully-loaded Airbus A380 plane. Its 80 m (262 ft) rotor blades sweep through an area equivalent of three soccer fields and can produce up to eight megawatts of power, making it the most powerful wind turbine in the world. ABB received the order from MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm, located around 19 kilometers west of Walney Island off the coast of Cumbria, England. The offshore wind farm is owned by the Danish utility DONG Energy A/S.

The CMA CGM Group announced that the CMA CGM GEORG FORSTER called England for the first time on July 6th. With its 1,305 ft. (398m) length and 177 ft. (54m) width, the CMA CGM GEORG FORSTER not only is, with her sistership the CMA CGM KERGUELEN, the CMA CGM Group’s largest containership, but it is also the largest UK flag vessel sailing the seas. This gigantic vessel has a 18,000 TEUs (twenty feet equivalent) capacity: all containers placed together would totalize the distance between London and Southampton.

The 18,000 TEU capacity containership the CMA CGM Georg Forster was delivered to the CMA CGM Group on June, 2 in South Korea. With its 1,305 ft. (398m) length and 177 ft. (54m) width, the CMA CGM Georg Forster is the group’s second 18,000 TEU capacity vessel to be delivered. Six vessels will compose this series of vessels named after great explorers, that will have  the CMA CGM Group’s largest containership capacity. This gigantic vessel has a 18,000 TEU (twenty feet equivalent) capacity. All containers placed together would totalize around the distance between Hamburg and Hanover.

Siemens has installed the HelWin1 offshore platform in the North Sea, marking the completion of a stage in German grid connection projects. HelWin1 will link the two offshore wind farms Nordsee Ost and Meerwind to the mainland. Using the Siemens technology installed on the platform, the alternating current power generated by the wind turbines is transformed into low-loss direct current for transmission onto land. Starting next year, this will enable the network operator and purchaser TenneT to supply clean electricity to more than 500,000 German households on the mainland.

Colfax Fluid Handling, a business of Colfax Corporation, was awarded a contract as the exclusive supplier of hydraulic pumps for a ship capable of lifting the topside structures from offshore platforms. With a lifting capacity of up to 48,000 tons, the ship will remove topsides in one piece and transport them to land for deconstruction. Transas Marine GmbH reported the completed supply of the full navigational and communication systems set to a newbuild RoRo vessel for Wulf Seetransporte GmbH & Co. KG, Cuxhaven. Transas delivered a full set of radio-navigational equipment including dual Navi-Sailor 4000 MFD ECDIS, two Navi-Radar 4000 MFD X-band, all navigation sensors, Gyro and steering system and GMDSS A2 equipments, all supplied and commissioned turn-key ready. The 262.5 ft RoRo vessel has been named as MV Kugelbake and was constructed at BVT Bremen shipyard.

China's first-ever homemade 300,000 tonnage FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) vessel was successfully launched on Dec. 8 in Shanghai. The vessel, produced by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., involves a contract value of US$240 million, said to be approximately equivalent to the cost of a giant Airbus A380 airliner. Capable of processing 190,000 barrels of oil per day and storing 2 million tons of oil, the vessel will be used by American oil company ConocoPhillips' phase II oil development in Penglai 19-3, a heavy- crude field in the Bohai Sea. Höegh Autoliners AS together with Louis Dreyfus Armateurs S.A.S. (LDA) expand their commitments to Airbus by ordering two additional special purpose RoRo carriers for long term employment to Airbus. Höegh Autoliners and LDA have, through a jointly owned French subsidiary, entered into agreements with Airbus for the transportation of A 380 components between Hamburg, Cadiz, Mostyn, St. Nazaire and Bordeaux. The time charters have a duration of 20 years and can be extended by up to 10 more years. The agreements involve the ordering of two advanced RoRo vessels at Singapore Technology Marine (STM). The vessel specifications make them suited to carry both aircraft components and other RoRo cargo.

Finnish design specialist Deltamarin is synonymous with advanced cruise ship design and construction. The company, as has many of its colleagues in this country, have built a formidible empire of accrued cruise shipbuilding knowledge and experience which it has used to remain a key player in the international cruise market.
