RV Belgica to Undergo Electrical Systems Refit

System integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems said it has won an order for an electrical systems refit aboard RV Belgica, an oceanographic research vessel owned by the Belgian state. Prior to the assignment, Alewijnse carried out a year-long research project on a limited lifetime extension of the vessel. The refit will start in April 2016 and take several months to complete. RV Belgica celebrated her 30th anniversary in 2014 and renovations are necessary for the ship to continue in active service for another seven years.

Alewijnse Completes Research Vessel Electrical Repairs

System integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has completed electrical repairs on the Belgica, also launching an appraisal of a possible limited lifetime extension for the ship. RV Belgica, a research vessel owned by the Belgian state, suffered water damage to the engine room on July 19, 2015, in which wiring, motors and pumps were damaged. Alewijnse was contracted to renew the damaged cables and replace some of the starter panels for various pumps and engines. The repairs were carried out at the Naval Base in Zeebrugge.

Oceanographic research vessel Marion Dufresne II is celebrating her 20th anniversary in 2015 and has finished a major refit that will extend her life for a further 20 years. Leading electrical system integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has successfully completed the electrical conversion. During a four month stay at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque from April to July 2015, the French scientific research vessel Marion Dufresne II underwent a major refit that included extensive work on her hull, machinery, public spaces and scientific equipment.

Electrical system integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems is celebrating the first anniversary of delivering electrical services and maintenance to vessels at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque. Twelve months after it began work there, the results are well above expectations with 19 contracts fulfilled for 10 vessels, representing a strong start, the company reports. The delivery of electrical services and maintenance to vessels at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque started in April 2014 with the MPI Resolution maintenance project, a turbine installation vessel.

Alewijnse Wins Electrical Installation Contract

Alewijnse Marine Systems has been awarded the contract for the full electrical refit of the 114 metre diving support vessel Seawell, owned by Helix Energy Solutions Group. The Seawell is currently in the North Sea and is expected at the Damen Shiprepair Yard in Vlissingen at mid December 2014 for a planned long term life extension. Alewijnse will spend four months on site, with the work due to start next month. The 114m vessel first entered service in 1987 and is widely credited with pioneering subsea light well intervention in the North Sea. She also operates as a saturation diving vessel.

Alewijnse to Refit Seismic Vessel Polarcus Naila

Systems integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has been awarded the contract for the full electrical refit of the seismic vessel Polarcus Naila. The ultra-modern, 12 streamer 3D/4D seismic vessel will arrive in February 2014 at the Damen-owned yard Shipdock Amsterdam for a refit scheduled to last 35 days. The refit involves the replacement of the current thrusters. The ship repair and conversion yard Shipdock in Amsterdam has subcontracted the electrical repairs and modifications to Alewijnse Marine Systems…

Alewijnse Diesel-Electric Propulsion for Damen Cable Layer

Systems integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has been awarded the contract for the full electrical fit out of Damen’s new cable layer, now under construction for international contractor Van Oord for delivery at the end of 2014. The 120m vessel is intended for the installation of electricity cables linking offshore wind farms to the shore. Alewijnse Noord and the Damen Shipyards Group have maintained a close working relationship for a number of years, and this latest contract is the most recent in a series of projects undertaken together.

Alewijnse Project Wins KNVTS Ship of the Year Award 2013

Alewijnse Marine Systems celebrated their involvement in the success of the award-winning 'LNG Greenstream' waterway tankship at the recent 16th KNVTS Maritime Awards Gala held in The Netherlands. Alewijnse say that the 110m 'Greenstream' is the first commercial inland vessel to use LNG‐electric propulsion. The vessel was built by Peters Shipyards, Kampen, and Alewijnse was responsible for the entire electrical installation on board, including the systems that control and regulate the LNG‐fuelled generators.

Alewijnse Completes Electrical Repairs on Stornes

Alewijnse Marine Systems performed electrical repairs and modifications on the flexible fallpipe vessel Stornes within a challenging timeframe. The vessel has left Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen after just three weeks of repairs, modifications and the commissioning of its electrical systems by a team of 40 Alewijnse technicians. Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen subcontracted the electrical repairs and modifications to long-standing partner Alewijnse Marine Systems, which has a permanent representation at the shipyard.

Following the arrival of the Royal Netherlands Navy Joint Support Ship 'Karel Doorman' at Vlissingen, Alewijnse Marine Systems say they are now on the second stage of a four year project to install the electrical systems on this exceptionally sophisticated vessel. The contract was awarded by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding at the end of 2010 and is for the installation of the ship-wide electrical systems including those for command and control, environmental systems and power distribution and monitoring systems.

The Atlantic Amsterdam has spent the last nine months at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen being converted from a drilling rig to offshore hotel accommodation by Nordica Offshore Pte, Ltd. Alewijnse was responsible for the supply, installation, integration and commissioning of a number of critical electrical systems. The Atlantic Amsterdam, formerly called Shelf Explorer, is owned by Atlantic Amsterdam Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, a subsidiary of Ezion Holdings Ltd.

Dutch Superyacht System Integrator's Healthy Outlook

Alewijnse Marine Systems, headquartered in The Netherlands, has multiple superyacht electrical system orders for 2013. The company closed 2012 with a strong order book that demonstrates the underlying strength of the top yards in the superyacht industry. Groundbreaking DC Bus System in New Ship

One of the first ships in the world to use a DC bus system for the main electrical installation recently entered service – the 'Abis Dover'. Built by ShipKits shipyared in a project that included Vuyk Engineering Groningen, Alewijnse Marine Systems, all based in The Netherlands, and Finland’s Vacon, the ship’s upper cargo hold is a remarkable 80 m (262.5 ft) in length, almost 75% of the LOA of 107m (351ft), achieved by avoiding space-consuming propellor shafts and going for the diesel-electric propulsion option.

Scheldepoort to Convert Jack-up Rig into Offshore Hotel Accommodation

Scheldepoort Repair & Conversion Yard has been awarded a contract to convert the jack-up drill rig Shelf Explorer into offshore hotel accommodation. The accommodation unit will then be known as Atlantic Amsterdam, owned by Atlantic Amsterdam Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, a subsidiary of Ezion Holdings Ltd. Scheldepoort Repair & Conversion Yard (based in Vlissingen, The Netherlands) is part of Damen Shipyards Group and specializes in modifications, repairs and refits. The yard carried out an identical project in April 2011 for the former drill rig which is now known as Atlantic Labrador.

Alewijnse: Big Rig Conversion Project

Alewijnse Marine Systems will play a significant role in the conversion of the jack-up drill rigs Atlantic London and Atlantic Amsterdam to offshore hotel accommodation. Both refits will start in July 2012 and take several months to complete. This order is from Nordica Offshore. Atlantic London is due to arrive at the ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia next month, while the Atlantic Amsterdam will arrive at Scheldepoort Repair & Conversion Yard in Vlissingen around the same time.

Alewijnse Delivers IBS to Bodewes 762

Alewijnse Marine Systems has fulfilled the order for the delivery of a complete Raytheon Anschütz bridge system to Bodewes Shipyards hull number 762. The order was given to Alewijnse after Bodewes Shipyards B.V. together with vessel owner Nescos Shipping B.V. undertook a thorough investigation of a number of available bridge systems. Alewijnse delivered a complete bridge system with X&S band radar, dual ECDIS, autopilot and gyrocompass, all from the Raytheon Anschütz brand. The outfit of the vessel was completed with essential equipment including VDR, Alewijnse AIS and Thrane GMDSS.

Alewijnse signs contract with AMELS

Alewijnse Marine Systems, the leading systems integrator based in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, has signed an agreement with top Dutch superyacht builder AMELS, to undertake the complete electrical outfitting on six new superyachts at AMELS’ yard in Vlissingen. Of the six yachts, one will be the first of the innovative new LIMITED EDITIONS 199 series designed by Tim Heywood with a distinctive scimitar bow, and the remaining five will be the latest in the phenomenally successful LIMITED EDITIONS 177 series.

Alewijnse Noord Gets Order For Three PSVs

Alewijnse Noord BV, a subsidiary of Alewijnse Marine Systems based in Drachten, the Netherlands, has recently secured the largest order in its history. The contract is for the installation of the electrical systems on board three new Pilot Station Vessels (PSVs) for the Dutch Pilotage Services. The vessels will be constructed by Barkmeijer Shipyards at Stroobos in the Netherlands. The PSVs are designed to provide offshore accommodation for the crew of the pilot boats. The vessels will be more than 80 metres in length and will have accommodation for up to 18 pilots and 17 crew.

Alewijnse Marine Systems has taken another step in confirming its position as a key supplier to the worldwide maritime market by opening an office in Brazil. Alewijnse recognises that Brazil is a vital high-growth market that is emerging as a world economic power, and which hosts a booming shipping and offshore industry. A physical presence in the country is therefore a key part of Alewijnse’s strategy for the region, where it will focus on offshore services and new-build activities.

Alewijnse installs its 1000th Inland AIS

A significant milestone was passed recently when Alewijnse Marine Systems recorded the 1000th installation of an AIS (automatic identification system) transponder on board an inland vessel based in the Netherlands. A new regulation has recently been introduced that requires inland commercial vessels to have AIS installed before 2013, but Alewijnse is working with operators in the sector to ensure that they are fully compliant well ahead of the deadline. Alewijnse Presents its Revolutionary River Radar

Alewijnse Marine Systems is introducing a revolutionary river radar based on the latest technology and including many new features. The Inland Navigation Radar is being presented for the first time at the Europort exhibition from November 8 to 11 in Ahoy, Rotterdam, and will be available in early 2012. Innovative features of the new Alewijnse radar include the simultaneous overlay of AIS information on the radar image, and the exceptional quality of the digital signal transmitted between the radar scanner and 22-inch widescreen display.
