Kadow tapped to head AGCS Marine
Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS) said that, effective July 1, 2019, Ulrich Kadow will be appointed as AGCS Global Head of Marine. Currently Chief Agent of AGCS Canada, Kadow will take over from current Global Head of Marine and Energy Simon Buxton, who is leaving Allianz. Until a successor in Canada is confirmed, Kadow will maintain a dual leadership role for both the country and Marine Line of Business responsibilities.Kadow has led AGCS’ Canadian business since May 2015, after originally joining AGCS in 2006.

There have been numerous articles and opinion pieces speaking of the potential application areas of maritime autonomous technology, the elimination of “human error”, and the resulting safer operations that will supposedly be realized. The question of whether autonomous ships will offer safer solutions than crewed ships remains to be answered, and will not be resolved today. However, there is an important issue regarding levels of autonomy in vessel operations that needs to be addressed.Many vessel operators feel that this technology will not impact their particular operating environment, and therefore there is no reason for them to worry about it. But the reality is that all vessel operators should stay abreast of developments in the arena of autonomous vessel operations.

Four New Crew Boats for Allianz
Damen Shipyards Group has delivered four new Fast Crew Suppliers (FCS) 2610 to Allianz Middle East Ship Management. Nimble and quick, unmanned aerial vehicles have evolved into a valuable tool for marine and offshore applications.When a U.S. oil tanker conducts a Critical Area Inspection Plan (CAIP) as required by ABS, it is an onerous process. For example, each tank requires seven days of set up with scaffolding and staging. An ABS inspector and UDT technicians must access, and be carefully lowered into the tank with instrumentation and tools. Inspection points in far reaching places are surveyed.
