Carnival's $85M DR Facility to Begin Receiving Guests in October
Carnival Corporation today announced it will begin welcoming guests at its new $85 million Amber Cove port in the Dominican Republic beginning in October 2015. The facility, which represents the largest cruise industry investment ever made in the Dominican Republic, is expected to host more than 250,000 passengers in its first year of operation. The port facility will allow cruise ships to make stops along the Dominican Republic's Amber Coast, a northern coastline that hasn't been visited by cruise ships since the 1980s. Six of Carnival Corporation’s nine brands will call on Amber Cove.
Port of Hamburg on Growth Course
In 2013 the Port of Hamburg achieved total throughput of 139 million tons. That represents growth of 6.2 percent. Amber Coast Logistics Hosts Coaching Workshop
The EU-subsidized logistics project Amber Coast Logistics (ACL) has made its first appearance at Belarusian Transport Week, which was held just recently in Minsk. ACL had a stand of its own and offered a coaching workshop, concentrating on learning from Best Practice examples. Around 70 logistics players from Belarus attended the English-language coaching seminar, given under the title ‘Logistics companies: quality requirements for logistics services and logistics service providers in Belarus.’ Experts from established logistics companies and institutions featured as speakers. Speakers on the subject of ‘Challenges and requirements: logistics services in regions difficult to access’ included Adina Cailliaux, Project Manager at ACL lead partner Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V.
Amber Coast Logistics Challenge Cross-border Mindsets
The Amber Coast Logistics project brings together 19 project partners from Belarus, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, as well as another 25 associated partners. Founded with EU support, the project is designed to strengthen and exploit the existing potential of the transport and logistics sector in the southern and eastern Baltic Sea regions. 'Boundaries in the head are slower to disappear than frontiers between countries.' This was the realization of the recent mid-term event participants of the EU logistics project Amber Coast Logistics (ACL), held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Belarus Joins Baltic Sea Logistics Project
Republic of Belarus signs up to the EU-funded logistics project – Amber Coast Logistics (ACL – to enhance the country's transport & logistics sector. In the Amber Coast region Belarus has a particular role as a transit country of transnational land based trade and transport flows. It links the economic area of the EU to Russia. It is estimated that about 12 percent of the transit volumes by rail and road from or to Russia run through Belarusian territory. Since 1995, trade flows between Russia, Belarus and the EU increased by a factor of three to four. Looking at the share of rail, road and inland waterway transport in Belarus an imbalance becomes apparent: With 83,9 percent rail transport has the biggest share, followed by road with 9,8 percent and inland waterway with 6,3 percent.
