First phase of DNV GL Led Offshore Cable and Pipeline Project completed

The first phase of the DNV GL’s Joint Industry Project (JIP) which focuses on the development of a new design and certification standard for equipment for pipeline and cable offshore operations has been completed. "The JIP, focussing on the development of a new design and certification standard for equipment for pipeline and cable offshore operations, aims to reduce uncertainty, cost, increase efficiency and safety throughout the lifecycle of the equipment," said a press release. Pipeline and cable operations is a dynamic field of technology, with multiple players, leading to a level of complexity and lack of standardisation in the most common terms used within the oil and gas industry. Zentech Acquires Derrick Barge 23, Renamed ZEE RIG 3

Zentech, Inc. has acquired the former Derrick Barge 23 and renamed it ZEE RIG 3. “We intend to upgrade the vessel in two phases, first for use as a crane barge with increased lifting capacity, and later as a much larger self-propelled jackup vessel for wind farm installation service,” said Zentech President Ramesh Maini. The vessel is being prepared for conversion work at a Gulf Coast shipyard. The vessel was purchased from Bohen Crane and Equipment Repair LLC. In its current configuration, ZEE RIG 3 is 400 Ft. long, 100 Ft. wide and has a hull depth of 29 Ft.

Feature: Getting on an Even Keel

Without much fanfare, VT Halter Marine, Gulfport, Miss. is completing a number of very large and capable vessels for both commercial and U. S. Government interests. The company seems on track with the objectives set last year by CEO Boyd E. "Butch" King to add additional projects to their two shipyards located in the Pascagoula, Miss. area. For example, the company will christen the Oscar Dyson October 17. This is a very unique Fisheries Survey Vessel for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a Federal Government agency. The vessel is 208 ft. long with a 49-ft. beam and a relatively deep 28-ft. hull that has a maximum draft of 19 ft.. The Oscar Dyson has a steel, ice-classed hull with an aluminum deckhouse and is anticipated to run at 14 knots.

Feature:Oscar Dyson Launches New Era at NOAA

With the launching and first of the year completion of the 208-ft. vessel Oscar Dyson, a new era has also been launched at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Typically the recipients of hand-me-down vessels from other services, the $39.3 million Oscar Dyson is the first new vessel the NOAA has received in over 30 years. Dedicated to fisheries research, the vessel is the first of at least two and maybe four built for NOAA by VT Halter Marine, at their Moss Point, Miss. shipyard. The Oscar Dyson was one of a number of ships that was caught in the Friede Goldman Halter bankruptcy two years ago and work was suspended during the shutdown and transfer of this project to the successor company, VT Halter Marine.

VT Halter Wins Contract

VT Halter Marine Inc., a subsidiary of Vision Technologies Systems Inc., signed a $5.2 million contract with Tide Leasing Company, L.L.C., of Birmingham, AL to build a stevedoring crane barge. The 200 x 75 x 14.5-ft. foreign flagged vessel will be classed by Lloyd’s Registry Class Designation + 100AN deck barge. Hydralift AmClyde Inc., (AmClyde) will supply the crane for the project. VT Halter Marine plans to complete the barge construction at its Mississippi-based Pascagoula Operations. The scope of work includes installation of the deck winches and crane pedestal and will take about 12 months to comp lete. In the four months that follow, VT Halter Marine will assist AmClyde with the installation and operational testing of the crane.

News: World's Largest Dry Transport Vessel Delivered

Heavy transport shipping company Dockwise Shipping B.V. took delivery of the M/V Blue Marlin after her conversion into the world's largest semi-submersible heavy transport vessel able to carry heavy cargoes up to 73,000 tons. After a conversion of three months at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Blue Marlin has re-joined the Dockwise fleet with an increased deadweight capacity of 76,061 tons. The beam has been increased by 21 m, which results in an increased unobstructed deck area of 11,227 sq. m (63 m wide x 178.2 m long). The propulsion system of the vessel has been upgraded and extended with two Azimuth retractable propulsors, each 4.5 MW, to provide optimum manoeuvrability and seagoing characteristics while carrying ultra large cargoes.

FGH Announces $10 Million in New Contracts

FGH Engineered Products Group, the equipment segment of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc., announced that its AmClyde unit has signed new contracts totaling over $10 million with several customers in the international offshore oil and gas sector. AmClyde crane to a new vessel. AmClyde also has a contract from Horizon Offshore Contractors to upgrade the lifting capacity on their existing AmClyde Model 52 marine crane by more than 50 percent. FGH Submits Reorganization Plan

Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. that it has submitted its plan for reorganization to the United States Bankruptcy Court. Friede Goldman Halter has worked closely with its unsecured creditors to develop this plan. The plan calls for the reorganization of Friede Goldman Offshore and Halter Marine and anticipates that the previously announced sale of AmClyde and Friede & Goldman, Ltd. (a naval-architecture and marine-engineering firm specializing in offshore rig design) will be finalized. As Friede Goldman Halter emerges from Chapter 11 the resulting independent business units, and their management, are looking forward to increased interest from their loyal customer base.

FGH Sells Amclyde Division

Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. on April 25 closed the previously announced sale of the company's AmClyde Division located in St. Paul, Minnesota, for approximately $36 million (USD) to Hydralift ASA, a Norwegian company. "This is an important step," said Jack Stone, President and Chief Executive Officer of Friede Goldman Halter. "The completion of this transaction provides a major portion of the liquidity necessary to accomplish the financial restructuring. The Company continues to move toward Court approval of its Plan of Reorganization. The officers and employees of the AmClyde division did an exemplary job of working with their customers during the bankruptcy and are joining another market leader."

Kawasaki Inaugurates Gulf Of Mexico Service

Kawasaki Heavy Industries has expanded with the addition of a new service center to its worldwide network for marine machinery. Established in the New Orleans area to support Kawasaki's marine propulsion systems, the new operation is end result of an agreement with AmClyde Engineered Products Company - to utilize AmClyde's parts and service center in Covington, La. Kawasaki supplied a set of four propulsion thrusters for Tidewater's ROV support vessel Nautical Tide. The equipment package was comprised of two azimuth thrusters for main propulsion, one tunnel bow thruster and one retractable azimuth bow thruster. The vessel was constructed at Yantai-Raffles Shipyard in China under subcontract from the company's U.S.-based partner - Friede Goldman Halter.

FGH Receives $52 Million Worth Of Orders

Friede Goldman Halter (FGH) has signed nine contracts with a combined value of more than $52 million, excluding options. The contracts are outlined as follows: Halter has agreed with Foss Maritime for the construction of a 98-ft. (29.8 m) harbor tug, with options to build two additional vessels; a contract was also signed with an undisclosed foreign operator for construction of two high-speed passenger ferries, with options for two additional vessels; Sea Coast Towing has contracted Halter to build an 80,000-barrel oceangoing double-hull tank barge, with an option for an additional vessel; Trinity Yachts has agreed with Halter for hull construction of a 192-ft.

Global Industries Awards Keppel Singmarine Contract

Global Industries has awarded Keppel Singmarine the construction contract for its new pipelay / heavy lift vessel Global 1200. It is the third new build vessel contracted in 2007 to be designed by the innovative Dutch design company Sea of Solutions (SoS), partner in the Offshore Ship Designers Group. The previous two major vessels designed by SoS contracted this year were a 5,000 tonne heavy-lift vessel for Nordic Heavy Lift and a pipelay/heavy lift vessel for Larsen & Toubro. Sea of Solutions was responsible for both concept and basic design of all three vessels. Scheduled to enter service in April 2010, the dynamically-positioned Global 1200 is a combination derrick/pipelay vessel with 1,200 ton lifting capacity, 60–in.

Amclyde Wins Contracts

FGH Engineered Products Group, the equipment segment of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc., announced that its AmClyde unit has signed new contracts in excess of $13.5 million with customers in Freeport, Texas and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. "AmClyde is very pleased to receive these key orders from our long-standing customer NPCC (National Petroleum Construction Company) of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and our new customer Cabett Subsea Products, Inc. of Houston, Texas," said Dick Juelich, AmClyde President. AmClyde has a contract with NPCC to provide a significant operating increase of the lifting capacity and reach for their 2000-ton model 76 marine crane, originally built in 1973.

Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with SeaAmerica Cruise Lines, Inc., based in Hollywood, Fla. Under the MOA, LSS and SeaAmerica will develop a ship design leading to contract negotiations for the construction of two 42,000-ton, 1,000-passenger cruise ships. The program will include options for two additional ships. Construction of the ships would utilize both of Litton Ship Systems' production facilities, Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Litton Avondale Industries in New Orleans, and would maximize the resources and experience of both shipyards to achieve operating synergies. FGH Signs Contract To Sell AmClyde Division

Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. (FGH) has entered a contract with Hydralift ASA, a Norwegian company, to acquire substantially all of the assets and activities of AmClyde Engineered Products (AmClyde) for approximately $36 million. AmClyde, located in St. Paul Minnesota, is one of four business units presently operated by FGH. The acquisition is subject to approval by the United States Bankruptcy Court, and a possible auction proceeding that is allowed by the United States Bankruptcy Law. Closing is expected to take place in April 2002.
