Borets Names Langley as HSE Manager

Borets, a company in engineering, manufacturing, sales and service of electric submersible pump (ESP) systems, has named David Langley as North American HSE manager. Based at Borets’ U.S. corporate office in Houston, Langley will be responsible for developing and implementing safety programs and policies that align with the company’s corporate standards for health, safety and environmental compliance. Langley earned a Master of Science degree in operations management from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science in organizational management from Bethel University in Tennessee.

Jenkins Elected Chairman of CG Foundation Board

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that William E. Jenkins has assumed the role of chairman of the board after being elected at a meeting of the directors and trustees on March 13. Joining the Foundation's board in 2009, Jenkins served as treasurer and vice-chairman prior to being elected board chair. Jenkins is a director on the Board of American Bureau of Shipping, Inc., a trustee of Webb Institute, and was president and CEO of ExxonMobil affiliates providing worldwide shipping and marine transportation when he retired from ExxonMobil in 2012.

Coast Guard Foundation Announces 2014 Board

The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced its 2014 board of trustees. Consisting of 117members, the Coast Guard Foundation Board of Trustees and Directors oversees management of the organization and helps to provide resources to advance the Foundation’s mission to support the service of men and women in the United States Coast Guard. ASSE Honors Boeing's Mary Armstrong

The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) Common Interest Group has honored  100 women from around the world for making a difference in the safety, health and environmental (SH&E) field as part of the WISE ‘100 Women, Making a Difference in Safety’ project. Mary Armstrong, who is based in the Seattle area, was honored for her dedication to protecting people, property and the environment. Armstrong is the vice president of Environment, Health and Safety at Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company. She joined the company in 1984 as a process engineer for manufacturing research and development, and steadily ascended the chain of command during the last two decades.

Safety: Slip and Fall Accidents in the Marine Environment

Because the exposure to the marine environment and motions of a vessel, slips and falls are a significant source of personal injuries in floating equipment, probably substantially greater than most industry groups. Although there are a good number of publications, books and articles written regarding the subject of slip and falls, there are almost none addressing the conditions found in a marine environment, which influence slips and falls. The generally accepted industry standard is that a static anti-slip coefficient of friction of .50 or above is safe on a dry walkway surface. A value below .50 indicates an unsafe walkway surface.
