Svitzer Americas Opens Regional HQ in Panama

Maersk's towage arm Svitzer announced it has opened a new Americas regional headquarters in Panama City.Svitzer said it decided early last year to relocate its Americas headquarters from Miami, U.S. to Panama and move into the Panama Design Center, which also houses other entities of the Maersk Group including Sealand Americas, APM Terminals, Hamburg-Sud, Twill, and Maersk Liner Operations Clusters.Arjen van Dijk, managing director of Svitzer Americas, said, “Panama is an important, strategic maritime hub with good infrastructure and easy connections to nearby countries and ports.

McMurdo Establishes Americas Headquarters

McMurdo Group, a company in end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) solutions, announced that it has formally established its Americas Headquarters in Beltsville, Maryland located within the Baltimore (Maryland)/Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The new headquarters, a result of McMurdo’s recent acquisition of Techno-Sciences, Inc., will also be home to the group’s Search and Rescue Center of Excellence which will include a distribution warehouse and an advanced research and development team.

Trelleborg Opens Houston Office

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation announces plans to open a new sales and business development office in Houston, Texas, U.S. Trelleborg said it will establish a local “feet on the ground” presence in the area and confirms the company’s commitment to the global oil and gas industry. Citing growth in the region as a strategic priority, Trelleborg Marine Systems will relocate its USA President, Faiyaz Kolsawala, to operate from Houston as well as a number of its global sales team, including a specialist docking and mooring representative and a dedicated oil and gas transfer and vessel technology salesperson to provide a closer relationship with customers in the area and the reassurance of a face-to-face presence.

Siemens Plans US Wind Service Training Center

Siemens plans to build a new, state-of-the-art wind turbine service training facility in Orlando, Florida. The demand for skilled wind service technicians is increasing as more wind projects come online in the Americas, thereby requiring long-term service and maintenance. Siemens is designing this new 40,000-square-foot center, which will be located close to the global headquarters of Siemens’ Energy Service division in Orlando, to be among the most advanced wind training facilities in the world. Siemens’ initial investment will be approximately $7 million and the company plans to create 50 new full-time jobs and host approximately 2,400 trainees annually from the U.S. and the Americas.

NOL Group Moves to Phoenix

Global container transportation and logistics group Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) said it will relocate its Americas regional headquarters to the greater Phoenix, Arizona, area during the second half of 2009. The headquarters shift is part of NOL’s global strategy to place its cost structure on a more sustainable footing in the face of the current economic downturn, while continuing to provide the highest standards of service to its customers. NOL said the move from its current headquarters in Oakland, California, to Arizona should be completed during the third quarter of the year. “We’re excited to announce that Arizona will be the new home for our regional headquarters,” said NOL’s Regional President for the Americas, John Bowe.

Marlink Opens New Operations Center in Houston

Marlink, a supplier of integrated satellite communications equipment and network services has opened an expanded regional operations center in Houston, Texas to meet growing demand from it's maritime and offshore industry customers. Marlink's expansion of its Houston center follows closely the opening of business facilities and support centers in Oslo, Dubai, and Singapore in the second half of 2006. The new business offices and technical facilities in Houston will also serve as Marlink's regional headquarters responsible for coordinating company business activities throughout North and South America.
