Emerging Nation Shipyard Delivers Largest Ship Yet to German Owners

Ananda Shipyard & Slipways hands over multi-purpose 6,100 dwt vessel to Komrowski Maritim Gmbh. Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd have handed over Enzian, an oceangoing multi-purpose vessel, to German company Komrowski Maritim Gmbh. The 110.9-metre long and 16.5-metre in breadth ship is the largest ever locally built ship for export, say Ananda. Bangladesh started exporting oceangoing ships in 2008, and Ananda was the first local company to export its first vessel to Europe, to a Danish company. At present, Ananda, Western Marine, Highspeed Shipbuilding, Dhaka Dockyard and Engineering Works, Khan Brothers Shipbuilding and Karnaphuli Shipyard are the leading shipbuildersof ocean-going ships for international buyers.

Bangladeshi Shipbuilders Get Export Orders

According to a Sept. 15 report from The New Nation, Bangladeshi shipbuilders, who took part in the Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology (SMM-2010) Trade Fair in Germany last week, got export orders as foreign buyers showed interest in their oceangoing vessels. Four local shipbuilders-Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd (ASSL), Dhaka Dockyard and Engineering Works, Khan Brothers Shipbuilding Ltd and Karnaphuli Shipyard Ltd-took part in the fair at Hamburg. Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka Dockyard and Engineering Works Gazi G Rabbani said his company fetched orders of two bulk carriers at $40m and two goat carriers worth $15m for export to the Middle Eastern countries.

Bangladesh-$20m in Vessel Orders

According to a report from The Financial Express, Bangladesh has received orders worth $20m for building two small vessels and a tugboat from Middle East countries at the region's biggest shipbuilding fair in Dubai. The country's ship builders, Ananda Shipyard and Slipways, acquired the new orders at the Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2008, the largest maritime event of its kind in the region. GL Signs Multi-Purpose-Vessels in Bangladesh

Two 7,250 dwt multi-purpose-vessels are the latest addition to the orderbook of classification society Germanischer Lloyd. The ships will be built at Ananda Shipyard in Bangladesh for German shipowners Komrowski and Herrmann Lohmann Schiffahrt. Germanischer Lloyd Member of the Executive Board Dr Hermann J. Klein and Ananda Shipyard’s Managing Director Mrs. Afruja Bari signed the agreement at SMM in Hamburg. The two multi-purpose-vessels belong to a series of ten. The eight previous ships were already ordered with GL class in December 2007.

The construction of five multi-purpose dry cargo vessels at Western Marine shipyard has just begun. The first two keels for the 4,100 dwt vessels were laid at the end of February. The ships were ordered from Danish Stella Shipping and will be built with GL class.
