Munson Delivers 27 ft. Landing Craft

Oregon State Parks & Recreation recently took delivery of this Packman 27 ft. high-performance landing craft designed and built by the William E. Munson Company. Used for maintaining Government Island State Park in the Columbia River Gorge, power is supplied by a 310 hp Mercruiser 454/Brovo II inboard/outboard providing a 40 knot top speed and 25 knot cruise. A 5,000 lb. load capacity and six ft. wide bow door with 12V winch allow the vessel to pack several ATVs, crew members and construction materials to isolated State Park work sites. Additional outfitting includes a six by six enclosed wheelhouse with cabin heater, tow post, bow anchor roller, swim step, 15 hp auxiliary outboard motor and bow shark's teeth for pushing, floating debris.

Ultra Anchor Gets ABS Superior Holding Certification

Quickline, an importer and distributor of quality marine gear and accessory products, announced that its Ultra Anchor meets the highest level of holding power as defined by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and has been awarded the certification of design assessment for Stainless Steel Superior Holding Power (SHP) for restricted service to a maximum anchor weight of 1500 kg (3306 lbs). SHP for restricted service is given to anchors with superior holding power of at least four times that of ordinary anchors. Using tests that conform to the ABS Anchor Sea Test Procedure performed in sand, mud and gravel at average sea depths of 32.5 feet (10 meters), the Ultra Anchor exceeds ABS requirements.

MacGREGOR Plimsoll Wins $7.27M Order

At the end of October, Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair Inc. in Japan ordered five shipsets of deck machinery to be installed on 70m-long offshore anchor-handling tug/supply (AHTS) vessels being built for a Japanese owner. Three shipsets of equipment will be delivered in 2008, and the other two in 2009, and the total contract value is approximately $7.27m. Each deck machinery package features MacGREGOR Plimsoll-designed electro-hydraulic drive main winches, with a 200-tonne line pull and 300-tonne brake holding power. Also included are a service crane, a 300 tonnes SWL sharkjaw towpin, and a newly designed stern roller which uses a taper roller bearing instead of the conventional bush bearing type.

Coastal Marine Expands in Brazil

Coastal Marine Equipment has extended its presence into the Brazilian marketplace by teaming with Macnor Marine and Macnor Services to assist in equipment sales and service. This relationship has proven successful as Coastal Marine has been awarded the deck equipment for two Oil Spill Response Vessels’ being built in Brazil at EISA Shipyard. Each vessel will receive an ABS approved anchor windlass, two capstans and two tuggers. The equipment will be engineered, manufactured and tested at Coastal Marine’s facility located on eleven acres in Gulfport, MS. They currently manufacture a complete line of marine deck equipment including anchor windlasses, capstans, towing winches, mooring winches, anchor winches, reels, spud winches, stern rollers, tow pins and rescue boat davits.

AVRA Towage Adds to Fleet

With the July delivery of the tug Northwind, the Rotterdam-based firm Avra Towage is now operating a fleet of six tugs with a seventh under construction. Three of the company’s original five-boat fleet have Cummins main engines, so it was an easy choice to go with Cummins engines for the Northwind. However, where the others have 2,400 hp and 32 tons of bollard pull with a pair of 38-litre Cummins main engines (tugs South, West, and East), the new boats are powered by a pair of the larger 50-liter Cummins KTA50-M engines.

Coastal Marine Equipment on LCS

Coastal Marine Equipment is continuing its success in supplying marine deck equipment for government and military projects with the latest being equipment for Austal USA’s Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) program. This is in conjunction with Austals’ Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSV) program and Bollinger Shipyard’s Fast Response Cutters (FRC) program which are propelling Coastal Marine to be the leading deck equipment manufacturer for our military. In addition with these multi vessel contracts, Coastal Marine is supplying equipment for the NOAA Fisheries Survey Vessel (FSV) and Alaska Region Research Vessel (ARRV) being constructed at Marinette Marine, T-AGS 66 Oceanographic Survey Ship and TAGM-25 Missile Range Instrumentation Ship being constructed by VT Halter Marine.

From China to Italy

South China Shipyard (SCS) in is putting the final touches on a sturdy new anchor-handling tug for delivery to Italian buyers. The 42 by 11-meter vessel is powered by a pair of 60 liter V-16 Cummins QSK60 main engines. Each engine delivers 2200 hpat 1800 RPM into Reintjes WAF763 gears with 5.75:1 ratios and four-blade fixed-pitch propellers in nozzles. Electrical needs are met by a pair of Cummins QSM11 powered 240 Kw generators with a harbor set that is a Cummins-powered 60 KW generator. The boat is fitted with a 250 KW bow thruster and a 90 KW stern thruster.

ALP Tugs Get Rolls-Royce Deck Equipment

Rolls-Royce won a $31.9m contract to deliver deck machinery for four ocean going tugs, designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, for Dutch company ALP Maritime Services. The vessels will be constructed in Japan by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair. The vessels are being developed for towing large structures like oil rigs and floating production units over long distances. The bollard pull for each of the four vessels will be 300 tons and they will be equipped for anchor handling. The deck machinery include a complete low pressure winch solution and a stern roller.

Rolls-Royce Engines, Equipment for Bourbon

Rolls-Royce is to deliver deck machinery and engines to an arctic Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) to be built by Vard for Bourbon Offshore Norway. The contract has a value in excess of £17 million for Rolls-Royce. The deck machinery delivery from Rolls-Royce will consist of anchor handling winches, secondary winches, auxiliary winches, anchor handling cranes and a wide range of safer deck operation equipment. The engine delivery consists of two main engines and three main generator engines. AHTS vessels are built to handle anchors for oil rigs and perform rig moves.

ALP Tugs Get Rolls-Royce Deck Equipment

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a £19m contract to deliver deck machinery for four ocean going tugs, designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, for Dutch company ALP Maritime Services. The vessels will be constructed in Japan by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair. The vessels are being developed for towing large structures like oil rigs and floating production units over long distances. The bollard pull for each of the four vessels will be 300 tons and they will be equipped for anchor handling.

ESAB New FUB 30 Roller Bed

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products introduced the FUB 30 roller bed for fit-up of sections. This roller bed features a design to withstand the rugged environment in the welding industry. Designed to assemble 1+1 sections, the system is fast and easy to assemble. Each set consists of one power and one idler roller bed with four independently adjusted rollers to align the two sections with each other. The roller bed and the rollers are mounted on one main frame. The FUB 30 is ideal for use in fabricating large vessels, wind towers and pipemills.

Rolls-Royce Marine Tech Off Brazil’s Coast

Rolls-Royce has secured a $61.3b contract to supply a newly-developed anchor handling system that will enable floating oil platforms to be secured to the seabed in the extreme depths off the coast of Brazil. The system has been developed in response to the increase in deep water oil exploration and will be fitted to two vessels serving platforms owned by Brazilian oil company Petrobas. The vessels are currently under construction by STX Brasil Offshore and each one will carry more than 1,000 tonnes of Rolls-Royce equipment.

LGH Expands Equipment Rental Fleet

Lifting Gear Hire (LGH), a company providing lifting and moving equipment for rent and sale, announced the addition of several new products to its equipment rental fleet. Joining the company’s rental portfolio is a 4x4x2 Gated Material Basket, as well as several new rigging rollers, including include Beam Clamp Rigging Rollers, Beam Clamp Multi-Rollers and Rack Rollers – each piece of equipment tested, inspected and certified upon request, and all available for immediate rental.

Maersk Orders Rolls-Royce’s New Anchor Recovery Frames

Maersk Supply Service has exercised an option to add Rolls-Royce’s new Anchor Recovery Frames (ARF) to the supply contract awarded in December for deck machinery for six anchor handler vessels under construction at Norway’s Kleven Verft AS. Rolls-Royce informs that the contract marks the first reference for its next generation ARF, designed in cooperation with Maersk to optimize vessel safety and efficiency. Rolls-Royce says it has won a £50m contract to deliver deck machinery for four large anchor handlers for Edison Chouest Offshore. The vessels are designed by North American Shipbuilder Inc. and will be built in Brazil by Estaleiro Navship LTDA. The four vessels have been specially developed to operate in Brazilian waters under an eight year long contract with Petrobras, but will meet all demands for world-wide operations. Rolls-Royce has won a £19m contract with the Norwegian shipbuilding group Vard to deliver deck machinery, propulsion and engines to a new offshore construction and anchor handling vessel (OCV) for the Norwegian owner REM Supply. The vessel will be designed by Vard. The new vessel is developed for underwater construction work and anchor handling operations in Arctic waters and will have approximately 380 to 400 ton bollard pull to fulfill the demands for operational power in the deepwater segment.

Vessels: Munson Delivers 48-ft. PackCat

Nikolski Fisherman's Association recently took delivery of this 48-ft. welded aluminum PACKCAT landing craft designed and built by the William E. Munson Company of Mount Vernon, Wash. The vessel is designed to transport 20-ft. shipping containers to and from Dutch Harbor to the remote island of Nikolski, 110 miles west in the Aleutian chain. Nikolski Fisherman's Association will use the vessel to transport the containers loaded with construction materials to build their new fishing lodge, as well as for general purpose cargo hauling to and from Dutch. The 9.5-ft. wide bow door and 34-ft. long open cargo deck are outfitted with heavy duty deck rollers for offloading containers on the beach with a backhoe.

Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers Santa Cruz

RINCON Marine, Inc., has taken delivery of its newest addition, anchor handling tug Santa Cruz. The 190 x 44 x 16 ft. vessel is the first of two vessels of this design being built at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, incorporating the anchor handling equipment necessary for servicing the oil rigs in Santa Barbara Channel. A traditional supply boat layout has been followed, with capacities including 70,000 gal. diesel fuel, 223,395 gal. ballast water, 7,200 cu.ft. dry bulk mud in six 1,200 cu.ft. tanks, 2,016 barrels grade E liquid mud, and 8.650 gal. or potable water. Santa Cruz has a conventional propulsion arrangement. Main engines fitted are Caterpillar Model 3516B rated at 2,200 bhp @ 1,600 rpm, coupled to Reintjes Model WAF872 gearboxes with a ratio of 6.4:1.
