USCG approval triggers Alfa Laval PureBallast retrofit orders
As a direct consequence of its type approval by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Alfa Laval PureBallast 3.1 has been selected for ballast water treatment on vessels owned by STAMCO Ship Management. The agreement is expected to generate orders worth around EUR 2.2 million to be booked during Q1 2017. Under the agreement, PureBallast 3.1 systems will be retrofitted on 11 RoRo vessels in the STAMCO Ship Management fleet. STAMCO Ship Management made its decision following the type approval of PureBallast by the USCG.
Alfa Laval PureBallast gets USCG Approval
On 23 December, Alfa Laval received U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) type approval for the third generation of its ballast water treatment system, PureBallast. The approval allows ship owners who deballast in United States waters to make a confident choice of treatment technology. The USCG based its type approval of PureBallast on CMFDA/FDA testing conducted at DHI in Denmark. This testing was performed using the same hardware, power consumption and flow as the already market-leading IMO-certified version of the PureBallast 3 family.
Alfa Laval BWTS: USCG Type Approval Application Filed
After completion of land-based tests with marine, brackish and fresh water – all using the current ballast water treatment system design – a test report package for PureBallast has now been finalized by the independent lab DNV GL. Consequently, Alfa Laval has filed its type approval application with the US Coast Guard for the PureBallast 3 family. Alfa Laval is headed for US Coast Guard type approval in ballast water treatment. As expected, the company completed all tests of PureBallast during the summer of this year.
Alfa Laval’s PureBallast Passes the 10-year Mark
