Shipping Industry Calls for Release of Galaxy Leader Crew

Denmark Targets Gender Equality in Shipping

Danish shipping companies have signed a charter that obliges them to actively focus on gender equality, as part of country's new initiative aimed at increasing the share of women in the shipping industry.Just under 20,000 men and just over 3,000 women are employed in Danish shipping companies.The uneven distribution that needs to be changed, says Danish Shipping, who has now initiated a charter where the shipping companies can commit to focusing on gender equality.The first 13 shipping companies sign the charter later today, where Mogens Jensen, Minister for Equal Opportunities, will also speak.“We have a major challenge in recruiting labor to the Blue Denmark. Danish Shipping Agenda in EU

Two European Commissioners will come by Amaliegade and Danish Shipping’s headquarters to discuss the most important points of the Danish maritime shipping agenda in EU in the coming years today.The Slovenian EU Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc and her colleague, EU Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager will meet with Danish Shipping in Copenhagen.The two Commissioners will meet with, among others, Danish Shipping’s Director General and CEO Anne H. Steffensen and chairman Jacob Meldgaard."We are pleased that two strong Commissioners take the time to come by our house to discuss the challenges and opportunities Danish and European shipping will be facing in the coming years," says Anne H.

IMO Includes Anti-Corruption on Formal Agenda

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) showed massive support  agreeing to include maritime corruption as a regular work item on its agenda.A paper on the topic of maritime corruption was presented by the Marshall Islands with  many countries and international organizations  expressing their endorsement of a proposal to develop guidelines to assist all stakeholders in embracing and implementing anti-corruption practices and procedures at the 43rd meeting of the Facilitation Committee (FAL). The IMO will now work on a Guidance document to address maritime corruption. This is expected to be completed by 2021. Danish Shipping welcomed the support from the international community for this initiative.“We have a long-standing commitment to stamping out maritime corruption.

New EU Secretary Director for Danish Shipping

On 1 January 2019, Jens Valdemar Krenchel will take up the position as Head of EU Representation for Danish Shipping at the  the EU office in Brussels, where Danish Shipping has been represented since 1989.At the same time, he will join the management team of Danish Shipping as Head of the organisation's EU Representation, which employs a team of four. He takes over from Casper Andersen, who has left Danish Shipping."I am pleased to welcome Jens in The Blue Denmark. Jens is a capacity with considerable insights into EU relations. Jens will be a strong voice for Danish shipping in Brussels. Shipping is Denmark's largest export sector and the most global industry, which is why shipping companies are constantly dependent on international and competitive framework conditions.

Shipowners Caught in the Middle of Free Trade Battle

Protectionism and long hauled free trade negotiations can be an expensive battle for the Danish shipowners, if the market outside the European Union are not included in free trade negotiations. The Danish Shipowners’ Association hosted a verbal rumble between the Danish Social Democrat Ole Christensen and the Belgian Socialist Maria Arena from the European Parliament at the European Shipping Week Tuesday afternoon. Lately free trade has been widely debated in the European Parliament due to the vote for the Canadian free trade agreement CETA. The social democratic group S&D has had internal disagreemeents on whether to vote for or against the agreement that was recently passed. The two members of the European Parliament brought this debate to the free trade fight club Tuesday afternoon.

Danish Shipowners Partnership for Green Shipping

The Danish Shipowners' Association, the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark and the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs have concluded a partnership. "The Danish Shipowners' Association, the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark and the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs have concluded a partnership to strengthen cooperation and dialogue across Blue Denmark within the maritime environmental area," says a press statement from Danish Maritime Authority. The partnership is to represent Danish interests globally. At the October session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of United Nations' International Maritime Organization (IMO), the debate on international requirements for ships' environmental impact was speeded up.

Denmark Adopts Digital Ship Certification

As of June 24, 2016, ships flying the Danish flag are being digitally certified, making Denmark one of the first countries to put an end to the 100-year-old tradition of certifying ships with paper certificates. Until now, ship certification typically involved printing, stamping and signing paper certificates, and subsequently sending them around the world to be kept on board ships. Denmark Tightens Sulphur Emissions Rules

Thome to Manage Its First DIS Vessel

Thome Ship Management has reached a new milestone by taking over the full management of its first vessel to be flagged under the Danish International Ship Register. The technical and crew management deal, signed with Danish ship owner Evergas, involves the 12,000 cubic metre ethylene carrier JS Greenstone which was placed under the Danish flag during a recent State visit by HM The Queen of Denmark and HRH The Prince Consort to China. IMO Sec-Gen to Address Upcoming Denmark CSR Conference

Danish Shipowners' Association in collaboration with the World Maritime University; BIMCO; The Nippon Foundation and the Japanese International Transport Institute will focus on maritime corporate social responsibility (CSR) at the Culture Yard in Helsingør on Tuesday November 12, 2013. The conference, entitled " Northern European Shipping CSR Symposium - Making the Business Case for a Sustainable Shipping Industry " derives in part of the Rio +20 sustainable global development based on voluntary participation by private companies . Focus will be both theoretical and practical on how European companies and organizations engaged in CSR and on the triple bottom line, which consists of profit but also social and environmental aspects .
