Wheelabrator Group Announces New Ownership
Wheelabrator Group has announced new ownership. Mid Europa Partners (MEP), through its Emerging Europe Convergence Fund II, L.P. has completed the acquisition of all outstanding WG equity from an investment group led by Bard & Company. The Group will continue to pursue the action plan it developed over the last three years following its spin off from Veolia Environment. As a result of the new investment, Wheelabrator Group’s corporate functions (currently located in Golden, Colorado, USA), will transition to Altrincham over the course of the coming year.
Coastal Towing Announces New Refinancing
Coastal Towing, Inc., announced today the consummation of a $28 million senior term loan with the CIT Group/ Equipment Financing, Inc., Heller Financial Leasing, Inc. Pursuant to this transaction, the Company refinanced senior term debt under existing agreements with CIT and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. In addition, the loan will be used to facilitate Coastal?s barge construction program. Dennis D. Buffo has joined Coastal Towing, Inc., as vice president of maintenance effective October 1. With over 29 years in the maintenance area of the marine industry, he will be responsible for all of Coastal's boat and barge maintenance. Buffo holds a B.S. degree in Marine Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point, N.Y.
TEN Announces New Time Charters
Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) announced new time-charter contracts for two of its product carriers, the Libra and the Crux. The Libra has a two-year contract, with a further one-year option, starting immediately at a rate of $13,450 with a major North American oil concern. The Crux has a sixteen-month time charter starting in April 2003 at $13,000 with another major international charterer. "With these contracts, TEN is continuing its established practice of maintaining a balanced fleet employment profile with spot voyages and medium to long-term accretive charters," said Nikolas P. Tsakos, President and CEO. He added, "The attractive rates that we have secured for these vessels are indicative of the continued strong market that we have been observing over the last several months.
ACL Increasing Tank Barge Demurrage Charges
American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) has announced new demurrage terms for liquid shipments. ACL will increase per day demurrage charges by 15 percent. Commenting on the new terms, Mike Ryan, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, stated, "We are adjusting our demurrage charges for our tank barge fleet in response to the continued strong demand for liquid barging capacity. The value of these liquid units in the marketplace continues to increase and we need to keep pace with that value."
Algae-X Announces New Design For Fuel Conditioner
Algae-X International has announced the release of its latest model in the LG-X Series Diesel Fuel Conditioning Units. The LG-X 3000 Model has been redesigned to increase the efficiency of fuel treatment resulting in improved combustibility, fuel economy and reduction of smoke emissions. The original version will now be used exclusively in the MTC 1000 & 2000 fuel tank cleaning systems.
Rolls-Royce Announces New Marine Appointment
Rolls-Royce announced a senior management change within its marine business. Andreas Fokkens will be appointed president, commercial marine, a post he will take in June when the outgoing president, Morten Ulstein, completes his three-year term in charge of the business. Fokkens is currently managing director, marine electronics, a post he has held since last September, and is responsible for electronic systems, including power electronics and automation and control systems. Previously, Fokkens was with ABB.
RB Royal Announces New Chief Operating Officer
The appointment of John E. Valek to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of RB Royal Industries, Inc. was announced by John W. Neumann, Jr., the company's Chairman and CEO. Valek will also continue to perform his duties as Executive Vice- president and General Manager. A graduate of Michigan Technological University, Valek received a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. Murray, Cantwell to Unveil American Ports Legilation
On Thursday, August 15th, at 10:00 AM, U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, Port of Seattle CEO Tay Yoshitani, and Port of Tacoma CEO John Wolfe will hold a press conference at the Bell Harbor Conference Center rooftop deck overlooking the Port of Seattle to announce new legislation that will support Washington state’s trade economy and significantly strengthen American ports, including many in the Pacific Northwest. Outdated harbor maintenance taxes divert many American-bound cargos to ports in Canada. The Senate bill is expected to level the playing field for American ports competing for cargo while boosting investments in port infrastructure and maintenance.
Dryships to Expand into VLGC sector
DryShips Inc. announced today that, it has agreed to enter into a “zero cost” Option Agreement (“LPG Option Agreement”) with companies controlled by its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. George Economou, to purchase up to four high specifications Very Large Gas Carriers (“VLGC(s)”) capable of carrying liquefied petroleum gas (“LPG”) that are currently under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries (“HHI”) . Each of the four VLGCs are going to be employed on long term charters to major oil companies and oil traders.

TOP Tankers Inc has entered into a time-charter contract for the M/T Stormless, a 150,038 DWT double-hull Suezmax tanker, built in 1993 by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd of Japan. The vessel is expected to commence the new time-charter by the end of December for a period of three years, at a rate of $36,900 per day.
TOP Tankers Announces New Time-Charter Contract
TOP Tankers Inc it has entered into a time-charter contract with a major South American oil company for the M/T Flawless, a 154,970 DWT double-hull Suezmax tanker, built in 1991 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd of the Republic of Korea. The vessel is expected to commence the new time-charter in mid-June 2007 for a period of one year at a rate of $44,500 per day. The charterers have the option to extend the contract for a period of one year at the conclusion of the charter.
TSA Announces New Additions

VADM John Shkor, USCG (ret.) has been named TSA chief operating officer and associate administrator. Carol DiBattiste, partner at the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP, has been named TSA chief of staff.

New Puget Sound Cruises
American Cruise Lines announce the addition of a new itinerary for 2013 – Puget Sound and San Juan Islands . Offered aboard the 100-passenger American Spirit, roundtrip cruises from Seattle will showcase the most beautiful inland waterways on the West Coast. Puget Sound, which will include the San Juan Islands, will be the newest offering in American Cruise Lines’ Pacific Northwest cruise collection, which includes Alaska’s Inside Passage and the Columbia & Snake Rivers. Inaugural cruises are slated to begin on April 6, 2013.
U.S. Offshore Oil Drilling Rule Planned
The United States is planning to impose a major new regulation on offshore oil and gas drilling to try to prevent the kind of explosions that caused the catastrophic BP Plc oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing Obama administration officials. The Interior Department could make the announcement as early as Monday, the paper said. It is timed to coincide with the five-year anniversary of the BP disaster, which killed 11 men and sent millions of barrels of oil spewing into the gulf.
AVEVA Gets New Contract with SLS
AVEVA announces new contract with leading Korean marine company AVEVA , a leading provider of plant and marine design and engineering lifecycle solutions, announced its win of a new contract with leading Korean shipbuilder, SLS Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in Gyeongnam. SLS Shipbuilding Co. Admiralty Provides New ENC Coverage of Vietnam
The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has announced new ENC (Electronic Navigational Chart) coverage of a key shipping route in Vietnam, providing greater navigational detail of the region. The three new ENCs cover the ports and approaches to Vung Tau, which includes the main container port of Cai Mep, and are only available through the Admiralty Vector Chart Service. The new ENCs have been produced in response to increasing demand from shipping companies for fully compliant chart data for the region, which has seen significant economic development in the last decade. “Vietnam continues to outperform many economies around the world,” said Guy Edwards, Head of Admiralty Asia Pacific, Singapore.
