ClassNK Releases Mobile App for PSC Inspection

Classification society ClassNK has released the Arrival Checklist  for PSC, the preparatory checklist mobile app for PSC inspections. Arrival Checklist  for PSC digitalizes the updated contents of ClassNK’s Port State Inspections Pocket Checklist and is now available for smartphones and tablets. Arrival Checklist  for PSC allows users to access the checklist with greater ease and efficiency during preparatory checks of onboard equipment and others prior to arrival into port. The app was developed as a ship management solution to help minimize the risk of PSC detentions and deficiencies. The app categorizes items that are frequently pointed out as deficiencies at PSC inspections by location.

LR, UK P&I Club Launch Life-Saving Appliances Checklist

Lloyd's Register (LR) and the UK P&I Club have released a Life-Saving Appliances pocket checklist app to help ensure that ship personnel are trained in how to inspect, maintain and operate life-saving equipment, and that equipment is ready for use at all times. The app also includes a list of common deficiencies to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and help reduce the risk of port state control detentions. The full series of six pocket checklist apps, consisting of: ILO MLC, ISM & ISPS, Marine Fire Safety, Marine Pollution Prevention Port State Inspections, and now Life-Saving Appliances, are all available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

BlueTide Releases app to Manage Wireless Networks

Access Management Portal (AMP) is now available in the Apple app store. BlueTide Communications (BlueTide) has released Access Management Portal (AMP), BlueTide’s second proprietary iOS app, on the Apple app store. AMP allows for control of wireless networks directly from an iPad device. Designed for Ubiquiti WAP management, AMP is like a fuel gauge for bandwidth. With the ability to monitor usage by network, devices in use by WAP or data use by WAP, AMP delivers a real-time snapshot of how bandwidth is used and by whom. To ensure business-critical applications have sufficient bandwidth to perform, AMP enables customers to block and reauthorize devices instantly. This feature disables wireless access to non-critical devices until business operations are completed.

Deteriorating seafarer health and poorly-stocked onboard medical chests are major issues concerning maritime medical practitioners, which is why the International Maritime Medical Association (IMMA) has developed an App-driven Maritime Medical Stores Catalog designed to ensure that vessel owners and managers are meeting obligations when it comes to looking after the health of their crew. More than 1,500 companies have already downloaded this tool to purchase medical and health-related items needed onboard ship. IMMA’s catalog app features more than 5,000 health and well-being products, from aspirin and cough medicine to disinfectants and stretchers.

EfficienSea2 Rolls out Maritime Cloud

The Danish-led e-navigation project, EfficienSea2, got one step closer to being launched when a core element of the project – Maritime Cloud – was debated by a group of international maritime organisations and companies. The purpose of the project EfficienSea2 is to develop and implement e-navigation and, thus, up-to-date technology on board ships by introducing and using modern communication, navigation and administrative systems. The concept behind the Maritime Cloud has been developed by the Danish Maritime Authority in connection with previous international projects. By now, it has matured so much that it is ready to receive feedback from relevant international maritime organisations and companies.
