NYK's New LPG Dual-fuel VLGC Named Lupinus Planet

On September 2, a naming ceremony was held at Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. for a new very large gas carrier (VLGC) that NYK will charter to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) company Astomos Energy Corporation.At the ceremony, the ship was named Lupinus Planet by Toru Araki, executive vice president at Astomos Energy Corporation, and the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place was cut by his wife. Yuji Nishijima, NYK executive Officer, attended together with others from NYK.This vessel will be NYK‘s first liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel VLGC.

Canada Makes First Propane Shipment

LPG Carrier "Laurel Prime" Christened at MHI

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co.held a christening ceremony for a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier currently under construction for Astomos Energy Corporation. The christening ceremony was held at the Koyagi Plant of MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works for the ship named “Laurel Prime” by Seiya Araki, president of Astomos Energy Corporation.NYK has traditionally given LPG carriers two-word names that begin with the letters “L” and “P” respectively. WSS’s Liferaft Rental Program "Convenient and Cost Efficient"

Iino Marine Service, a ship management company in Japan, has been a customer of the Liferaft Rental and Exchange program (LRE) since 2010. Araki Takanobu has more than 13 years experience in various bunker- and cargo trading roles and has previously been working in Japan, Korea and Singapore. First Riser-Drilling in Earthquake Zone

Despite harsh weather and ocean conditions, and complex geological characteristics of its drill site, the deep-sea drilling vessel Chikyu, for the first time in the history of scientific ocean drilling, conducted riser-drilling operations to drill successfully down to a depth of 1,603.7 meters beneath the seafloor (at water depth of 2,054 meters). Engaged in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Expedition 319, the Chikyu is drilling deep into the upper portion of the great Nankai Trough earthquake zone to gain insights into geological formations and stress-strain characteristics.
