Henningsen Named CFO at Hamburg Süd

Lasse Carøe Henningsen, 46, will become the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Hamburg Süd, succeeding Jakob Wegge-Larsen, who has held this position since December 2017 and will be returning to Maersk in Copenhagen at the end of June. Already at the end of February 2020, he in parallel assumed the position of CFO of the Maersk division Ocean & Logistics there. When Henningsen starts at Hamburg Süd on June 1, he will be in charge of the Business Finance and Accounting divisions as well as the important SAP project. He and Dr.

Hamburg Süd’s Chief Commercial Officer to retire

German container shipping company Hamburg Süd said its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Frank Smet will retire at the end of March after roughly 27 years with the company.Smet, who has been working in the shipping industry for over 40 years – including in Brazil, Chile, Australia and Hong Kong – has been a member of Hamburg Süd’s Management Board since 2012. He was initially responsible for Network, Operations and Logistics before assuming responsibility for Sales and Customer Service in 2017.In the future, Hamburg Süd CEO Dr. Arnt Vespermann will also be responsible for the customer relations.

CNCo Acquires of Hamburg Süd Units

German container shipping line Hamburg Süd and The China Navigation Company (CNCo) have completed the sale of Hamburg Süd’s dry bulk shipping business to CNCo after receiving regulatory approval.Earlier in January, Hamburg Süd announced that it is selling its bulk shipping business, which includes Rudolf A. Oetker (RAO) and the bulk activities in Furness Withy (London and Melbourne) and Aliança Navegação e Logística,  to Singapore’s CNCo, part of the Swire Group,  as it focusses on its liner business with its two container shipping brands, Hamburg Süd and Aliança.The RAO Tankers business unit is not included in the agreement and will remain part of the Hamburg Süd Group.The affected dry bulk shipping units with offices in Hamburg…

China Navigation Buys Bulk Shipping Arm of Hamburg Süd

German shipping group Hamburg Süd announced that it is selling its bulk shipping business to Singapore’s China Navigation Company (CNCo), part of the Swire Group,  as it focusses on its liner business with its two container shipping brands, Hamburg Süd and Aliança.The agreement includes Hamburg Süd subsidiaries Rudolf A. Oetker (RAO), Furness Withy Chartering and the bulk activities in Aliança Navegação e Logística (Aliabulk).A.P. Hamburg Süd, Electrolux partner for SO2 Reductions

Hamburg Süd and its Swedish customer Electrolux are teaming up to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions in ports. During its layovers in Manzanillo, Mexico; Callao, Peru; and Iquique and Puerto Angamos, Chile. Between March 11 and 24, the 7,114 TEU containershp Santa Catarina voluntarily used cleaner marine gas oil (MGO) instead of standard heavy fuel oil (HFO) to operate its auxiliary engines and boilers. Hamburg Süd and Electrolux already carried out a fuel upgrade in the past, thereby making a contribution to environmental and health protection. Due to the significantly lower sulfur content of MGO, the sulfur dioxide emissions for the Electrolux cargo in question will decrease by over 95 percent. The project is being financed by both companies.

Maersk Completes Hamburg Süd Acquisition

The transaction between Oetker Group and Maersk Line for Maersk Line's acquisition of Hamburg Süd, the German container line, was closed on 30 November 2017. On 1 December 2016, Maersk Line announced its intention to acquire Hamburg Süd. The acquisition triggered a regulatory approval process in 23 jurisdictions which was successfully concluded on Tuesday 28 November with the approval of the acquisition by the Korea Fair Trade Commission. "With the final approval of the acquisition we have reached an important milestone in our strategy to become an integrated transport and logistics company delivering sustainable growth. These are truly exciting times and we are looking forward to taking the first steps forward as one company," says Søren Skou, CEO of A.P.

Hamburg Süd Christens Cap San Vincent

Hamburg Süd christened its new containership, Cap San Vincent, at a ceremony at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea, Wednesday. The final vessel in a series of three identical new builds, Cap San Vincent’s christening follows the launch of sister ships Cap San Juan and Cap San Lazaro earlier this year. The three containerships are part of the Cap San series, the largest in Hamburg Süd’s fleet. The Cap San Vincent has an overall length of 331 meters…

Aliança Christens New Containership

Yesterday, Hamburg Süd subsidiary Aliança christened its containership Pedro Álvares Cabral during a ceremony held for customers at the port of Itapoá. The ship’s Sponsor is Elisabeth von Krüger de Freitas, the wife of Humberto Ramos de Freitas, Executive Officer for Logistics and Mineral Exploration of Vale S.A., one of the most important clients of Aliança Bulk. Dr. Arnt Vespermann, Member of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd and Julian Thomas, General Manager Region South America East Coast of Hamburg Süd and Aliança, also participated in the ceremonies.

Hamburg Süd, GL Team on Emission Management System

Hamburg Süd and Germanischer Lloyd are jointly developing an innovative data management system for systematically capturing all environmentally relevant ship operation information. The future “GL Emission Manager” will permit detailed evaluation and analysis of all relevant data of the entire fleet. Hamburg Süd has set itself the goal of creating a valid basis for further reducing the emission of contaminants by its deployed fleet. “There is as yet no comparable way of systematically collecting and analysing all environmentally relevant information from vessels in service,” says Arnt Vespermann, Member of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, about the new GL  emission Manager.

Hamburg Süd Focuses on Sustainability

Hamburg 19 Mai 2011. A few days ago the Fraunhofer Working Group for Supply Chain Services SCS published the study “Sustainability Index for Logistics Service Providers”. The study analysed how transparently logistics service providers report on their activities in the area of sustainability and the measures they use to put the idea of sustainability into practice.
