CEMS Opening Visakhapatnam Labs

Shortly after announcing the launch of its labs in Mumbai, Center of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS), a startup in skill development for maritime and shipbuilding sector, has announced readiness of its labs in Visakhapatnam.CEMS is promoted by Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) in partnership with Siemens and support from Sagarmala, Ministry of Shipping. Its Visakhapatnam campus is located in the Indian Maritime University (IMU) premises.CEMS has planned 18 labs for its Visakhapatnam campus of which six labs are ready and will be operationalized shortly.

India's CEMS Establishes 24 labs for Skill Development in Maritime

The Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS) in India, a well-funded start-up in skill development for maritime and shipbuilding sector, has announced setting up of 24 labs -6 in Mumbai and 18 in Vizag campus. It also shared the list of courses being offered. The labs being set up include Product Design & Validation, Advance Manufacturing, Hull Design, Automation, Welding Technology, Robotics, Virtual Reality, Advance Machine & Robotics, Electrical and several others. The announcement was made in the first seminar on Competencies, Employability, Methodology and Skills organized by CEMS in Mumbai. IRClass Opens Office in Alang to Support Recycling Initiatives

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), a leading international classification society, opens an office in Alang, India, today. The new office will serve to support its ship recycling initiative in Alang, following on its recent initiative of certifying ship recycling yards according to EU standards as an ‘Independent Verifier’. IRClass Systems and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (ISSPL), an entity promoted by Indian Register of Shipping, has since certified four leading ship recycling yards in Alang as an ‘Independent Verifier’ in accordance with the requirements of European Union Ship Recycling Regulation (EUSRR) 1257/2013. So far, about 25 ship recycling facilities have approached IRClass for different services which included compliance audit against Hong Kong Convention (HKC)…

IRClass First to Certify Indian Recycling Yards per EU Standard

IRClass is amongst the first organizations in the world to certify ship recycling yards according to EU standards as an ‘Independent Verifier’. IRClass Systems and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (ISSPL), an entity promoted by Indian Register of Shipping, has certified four leading ship recycling yards in Alang as an ‘Independent Verifier’ in accordance with the requirements of European Union Ship Recycling Regulation (EUSRR) 1257/2013. * R.L. * Leela Ship Recycling. These recycling yards are India’s first recycling yards to be certified based on EU standards and have submitted their applications for inclusion in the EU recognized yards list. The deadline for application submission was 30 June 2016 and the yard list is expected to be released by December.

Senior Appointments at IRClass

In a move to strengthen its senior management structure, The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has made significant changes at its top level. As a part of its organizational restructuring exercise, IRClass has decided to realign the position of Chairman and Managing Director and create two new senior positions. Mr. Arun Sharma, who is now the Executive Chairman, will focus on matters related to broader policy, overall strategy and mentoring. IRClass Releases IR-HULL Software

Indian classification society IRClass has released its new technical software, IR-HULL, which evaluates strength and scantling compliance for seagoing steel ships. IRClass said it specifically developed IR-HULL to verify all aspects of ship design compliance to its established rules and regulations for the construction and classification of steel ships. The software, available to ship owners, designers, consultants and shipyards, analyzes global strength (including both longitudinal and buckling strength) and local scantling for all panels and stiffeners in a vessel’s hull section.

IRClass Unveils IR-HULL Software

IRClass, the Indian classification society, today announced the release of its new technical software, IR-HULL. IR-HULL was developed by IRClass specifically to verify all aspects of ship design compliance to its established Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Steel Ships. The new IR-HULL software analyses global strength (including both longitudinal and buckling strength) and local scantling for all panels and stiffeners in a vessel’s hull section. IRClass Enhances Services to Indian Navy

IRClass, the Indian Register of Shipping, today announced an increase in the range and level of services it provides to the Indian Navy, with the advent of naval vessels in service being maintained in IRClass. “Several types of Indian Naval vessels have been, and are being, constructed in conformance with our Rules and Regulations,” said Arun Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of IRClass. “These include most yard craft and also certain types of warships and auxiliary vessels. Earlier, such vessels had been built in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of other classification societies, with IRClass being involved for some dual class vessels. We are pleased to state that over time, the trend has shifted towards vessels being specified as single IRClass.

IRClass Lends Support to Maritime India Summit

IRClass Rules for ICG Ships

The “Rules and Regulations for Construction and Classification of Indian Coast Guard Ships”, developed by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) were formally released by the Director General Indian Coast Guard, Vice Admiral HCS Bisht AVSM on 28th December 2015 at a ceremony held at the Indian Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi. SCI Awarded IMS Cetification

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd was awarded the Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification at its Head Office at Mumbai on 23rd December, 2015 by Arun Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and congratulated SCI on “another feather in its existing hat of firsts”. The certificate was received by Arun Kumar Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SCI. SCI became the first Indian Shipping Company to be awarded the IMS (QMS 9001, EMS 14001, and BS OHSAS 18001) certification across its establishment and fleet. The scope of IMS certification includes Owning, Managing and Chartering of ships for transportation of goods and passengers, Offshore and marine advisory services, Maritime training services and Port/Terminal Operations Management.

IRClass Backs India’s Efforts to Cut Emissions

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), a ship classification society, has issued a ringing endorsement of the COP21 agreement at the United Nations Climate Conference in Paris. Arun Sharma, CMD, IRClass represented the voice of the Indian Shipping fraternity at the recently concluded COP21 Climate Summit in Paris. Speaking at the India Pavilion on the topic, ‘GHG Emissions from Indian Shipping – Impact and Mitigating Measures’, he defended shipping as the most energy efficient mode of transport. Noting that despite shipping carrying 90 percent of world trade, shipping contributes only 2.2 percent of total Green House Gas emissions, Sharma endorsed the ongoing efforts by IMO to keep global warming below 2 degrees centigrade.

IRClass Acquires Safess Quality Management

IRClass Systems and Solutions Pvt Ltd (promoted by Indian Register of Shipping), has acquired cryogenic vessel inspection firm Safess Quality Management Pvt Ltd (SQML) and its subsidiary, Arun Abhiyantey Pvt. Ltd. (AA). SQML was founded in 1993 and has offices in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kota and Ahmedabad. SQML is certified for ISO 9001-2008 by the British Standard Institution and registered with National Small Scale Industries (NSCME) department. The company is well known for its activities in the inspection of cryogenic vessels (low temperature storage facility), insulation, fire proofing, calibration, repair, restoration, and the modification of related piping and pressure vessels and consultancy.

IRClass Sets up Advisory Committee in Singapore

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) held the first meeting of its Advisory Committee in Singapore. The purpose of the committee, which draws members from Singapore’s leading maritime and offshore companies, is to give expert guidance to IRClass in strengthening its relationship with the Lion Republic’s maritime cluster and across South East Asia. “In our relatively short existence to date, we have gone some way beyond the simple provision of classification services,” he said. “Life begins at 40, they say,” he added. The committee discussed the aims and objectives of IRClass in Singapore and South East Asia, and advised IRClass to focus on educating the markets not only on its classification capability but the range of its portfolio of services.

IRClass Raises Focus on Offshore

Classification society and IACS member Indian Register of Shipping has established an ‘India and Offshore Advisory Committee’ with a vision to raise the profile of its services and receive strategic advice for growth in South Asia region. The India Advisory Committee comprises of 14 senior members and representatives of the maritime fraternity of India. Formation of this committee follows the launch of UAE Advisory Committee in March this year. IRClass also plans to set up ‘Singapore Advisory Committee’ very soon, preparations for which are at an advanced stage. Setting up high level Advisory Committees in these three key business and maritime geographical regions is in line with IRClass’ ambitious expansion plans.

IRClass is 40

IRClass, a leading Class Society in Asia has successfully completed 40 years in the service of Maritime industry. With the growth in India’s international trade, the country’s merchant fleet has expanded substantially from 1970s to now. This needed to be backed by a reliable, cost effective and neutral technical body in order to promote national maritime interests and serve as a nucleus for R&D in shipping, shipbuilding & allied industries. The Indian Register of Shipping was thus formed in April 1975 with the active support and co-operation from the Indian Shipowners and Ministry of Shipping, Government of India following the recommendations of the Sir Ramaswami Mudaliar Committee.
