Drew Offers Electronic Steam System Monitoring

A new PC-based software from the Drew Marine Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company, monitors steam generating water treatment tests and recommends action for out-of-range results. The software, called Drew Watch Electronic Services, is the first electronic steam system monitoring software in the marine industry. It eliminates hand compilation of paper logs by automatically generating color histograms, and allows data to be sent electronically from the ship to Drew technical centers, as well as to ship management, for in-depth review and further recommendations. Ashland Drew Marine Releases New Catalog

Ashland Specialty Chemical Company's Drew Marine announced the release of the 6th edition of its Welding and Refrigeration Products catalog. The 41-page illustrated English-language catalog contains nearly 600 specialty products. Products comprise gas and arc welding and cutting equipment, including new AMERARCTM MSTW and GTSW arc welding machines, brazing consumables, and plasma cutting. The catalog also features innovative developments in Central Gas Installation Systems, such as the new design of MANY-FLOW gas distribution.

Drew Marine and ESAB Form Alliance

Ship operators will gain the benefits of leading technology from the world's largest manufacturer of welding and cutting equipment and consumables as the result of a new alliance between Ashland Specialty Chemical Company's Drew Marine Division and ESAB Welding & Cutting Products. According to the alliance agreement, Drew Marine will supplying ESAB stick and covered electrodes in bulk for shipboard maintenance, repair and steel renewal projects. The agreement also formalizes the companies' intent to explore other areas of mutual interest with the expectation of significantly expanding the range of proven ESAB solutions that will become available for marine use through Drew Marine's global distribution and support network.

Automated Combustion Analysis: Taking The Measure of Peak Performance

Monitoring diesel engine performance by traditional, manual methods is time-consuming and inherently imprecise. The limitations of those methods make it difficult to identify and pinpoint performance problems reliably. In addition, preventive maintenance routines adopted to compensate for lack of adequate data inevitably incur unnecessary costs-while the engine can still suffer from problems and imbalances that occur and remain undetected between scheduled overhauls. Ship owners and operators in fast-growing numbers are turning to automated combustion analysis to eliminate the costs of reliance on manual monitoring. In the span of a few minutes, an automated system can provide a complete, accurate picture of what is actually happening during the combustion process in each cylinder.

Drew Marine Realigns Management Team

In order to enhance its efficiency and coordination in response to shipowners' growing requirements for global supply, the Drew Marine Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company has restructured its management team. As part of consolidation of operations and marketing, the division has named: Daniel P. Kelleher, vice president of marine sales for Europe and the Americas; Nels J. Hendrickson, vice president of marine marketing and business development; and Barry F. LaVista, vice president of marine operations, responsible for supply and distribution in Europe and the Americas. Sales and operations of the division's Asia Pacific Region remain the responsibility of regional vice president, David O. Ochinero.

Finnegan Joins Drew Marine As Manager

The Drew Marine Division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company has elected John C. "Jack" Finnegan as manager of new business development. Finnegan, who comes to Drew Marine from Newport News Shipbuilding, will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities to expand the range of products and services Drew Marine offers to the marine industry. He will also manage start-up operation and global implementation for the company's new business ventures and product lines.

Treon Named Marketing Communications Manager at Ashland

Julie Treon has been named manager, marketing communications in Ashland’s Corporate Affairs Department with responsibility for Ashland Specialty Chemical Company, effective June 2. The announcement was made by Martha Johnson, vice president, divisional communications, and director, corporate communications, Ashland Inc. Treon will be responsible for marketing communications planning and execution, including brand management and positioning, product publicity, advertising and collateral material, web content, tradeshows, media relations and related activities. She also will serve on the Ashland Specialty Chemical Leadership Team, which reports to Gary Cappeline, president, Ashland Specialty Chemical Company. “I am excited to welcome Julie to Ashland,” Cappeline said.

Ieva And Cassaras Promoted At Ashland Specialty Chemical

Drew Marine, a division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company, recently announced two promotions in its Boonton, N.J., headquarters. Ron Ieva, who has held positions at Drew Marine as senior product manager, area manager for the Southeast and Caribbean, and cruise industry business manager, has been promoted to regional sales manager for the Americas. Mike Cassaras, who has been southeast and Caribbean area manager and regional sales manager for the Americas, will now assume global responsibility as business manager for Drew Marine Safety. BSME from the Marine Maritime Academy. After attending the University of Florida, Cassaras began his career in the marine industry in 1975. Prior to his positions at Drew, he was President and Founder of Atlas Marine Services, Inc.
