Alfa Laval said it has won an order for three units of the Alfa Laval FCM LPG, the low-flashpoint fuel supply system (LFSS) developed in partnership with MAN Energy Solutions.The LFSS order was signed in December 2020 with IMEX Co., Ltd., which builds MAN Energy Solutions licensed engines in Japan as a subsidiary company of Hitachi Zosen Corporation. Danish offshore vessel operator Maersk Supply Service has sold two of its older Anchor Handler Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS), citing the global oversupply in the market and the current market situation.The vessels in question are the Maersk Advancer and Maersk Asserter. Order intake for the Alfa Laval  Marine Division decreased in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter, mainly as a result of PureSOx coming in lower, following an extraordinary development in the preceding quarter.According to a stock exchange announcement, both offshore pumping systems and ballast water equipment reported significant growth compared to the third quarter, but not enough to compensate for the swing in PureSOx.Regarding the environmental portfolio of products, the market’s interest in PureSOx was on a continued good level as there was no change to the market’s view that the scrubber technology is a long-term financially attractive solution.Actual order intake was however lower after the extraordinary third quarter…

Lloyd’s Register (LR) and University Maritime Advisory Services (UMAS) have released “Zero-Emission Vessels Transition Pathways.”The study, according to LR, aims to show what is needed to enable the transition, both at the ship and supply infrastructure level, to deliver zero-emission vessels (ZEVs) that are crucial to achieve the IMO’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Strategy 2050 ambition.The new study seeks to address key questions about ZEVs such as: what needs to happen between now and in the next three decades for ship deployment? Norwegian contractor Prosafe and COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore Co have come to an agreement on three newbuild offshore accomodation units being built in China."Prosafe has reached agreements with COSCO and its lenders which will transform the company’s fleet, market position and earnings potential, and secure a significantly enhanced financial runway," said a statement from the company.The agreement allows for flexible delivery and long-term financing of Safe Eurus, Safe Nova and Safe Vega. ABB will supply the power and electric propulsion system to a new Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for BW Group, which will also be remotely connected to ABB’s Collaborative Operations Centers. The equipment onboard will provide data to the shore-side Centers allowing ABB and the vessel owner to take a proactive approach to maintenance throughout the lifetime of the vessel. “The modern power system must be both efficient and connected,” said Juha Koskela, Managing Director of ABB’s marine and ports business.

Corvus Energy Inc. has announced  that it has been selected as the supplier of the lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for a new hybrid chemical tanker being built for Rederiet Stenersen AS of Norway. The chemical tanker will be the first vessel of its kind to utilize an ESS for propulsion. Corvus Energy will supply its next generation Orca Energy ESS solution to integrate with WE Tech Solutions’ propulsion system, which will deliver industry environmental performance for this new vessel.

Contship Italia Group, Italy’s leading maritime container terminal and intermodal operator saw an increase in handled volume of 1.7% and 9.7% increase in transported volumes for 2016. The group’s Maritime Container Terminal business saw an increase of 109,000 TEUs in overall handling volumes in 2016, welcoming 6,888 vessel calls, up 4% year on year. Contship’s intermodal business reported an overall rise in transported volumes and directly operated number of trains. Innovative fast customs corridors, an improved load factor of domestic trains in the second half of the year, plus the increased routing of cargo via the southern gateway to south and central Europe, have all supported an increased market share of 25% in the Italian maritime intermodal business.

Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum integrated navigation, automation, and propulsion control systems for 27 new container vessels being built for Denmark based Maersk Line A/S. The contracts with Wärtsilä were signed in July and October 2015, and January 2016. The vessels are under construction at yards in China and South Korea. With these orders, the latest 47 new buildings in the Maersk line fleet will all be fitted with the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum system, thus emphasising its market application success. Wärtsilä will also provide a power management system and control consoles, as well as external communication facilities. The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yards commencing in April 2016.

The Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark will soon be expanded to five times its current size. This development, focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other alternative fuels, aims to address new challenges and possibilities for marine customers as they strive to meet environmental and energy targets. Alfa Laval  said the expansion will create the world’s most advanced test center for environmental and combustion technology – regardless of fuel type. Stolt-Nielsen Limited announced today that its subsidiary, Stolt-Nielsen Gas B.V., has purchased 10 percent of the shares in HIGAS S.r.L., with an option to acquire up to 80 percent of the company. HIGAS is a joint venture between Gas and Heat S.p.A. and CPL Concordia Soc. Coop, with plans to build and operate an LNG terminal and distribution facility in the port of Oristano, Sardinia. The LNG is to be shipped to the terminal by LNG tankers and distributed to customers via pipeline and trucks. The terminal is expected to be completed in 2017. Commenting on the project, Andrew Pickering, President, Stolt-Nielsen LNG Holdings Ltd., said, "This joint venture represents SNL's third strategic investment in the LNG segment, where our focus is on meeting what we call 'stranded demand' for LNG.

Clean Marine has signed a contract with the Chinese yard Huanghai Shipbuilding Co.Ltd. for the supply of exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) on two reefer/fishing support vessels. The vessels are owned by EF Transport (Malta) Ltd, whose fishing fleet is primarily engaged in the North-East Atlantic and is therefore highly exposed to the current IMO legislation, which calls for a maximum  0.1 percent sulphur level in air emissions in Emission Control Areas (ECA). The installation of Clean Marine EGCS will enable the new reefers to comply with the existing and future emissions regulation without switching to more expensive fuels. With an EGCS installed, the vessels can burn cheap and readily available Heavy Fuel Oil instead of Marine Gas Oil.

Calgon Carbon Corporation's wholly owned subsidiary, Hyde Marine, Inc., has announced  that its Hyde Guardian  Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) HG600 unit will be installed on the largest icebreaker in the FSUE "Rosmorport" fleet – the 22600 project, a 25 mWt-power diesel vessel. The contract is the first awarded to Hyde Marine in Russia for new vessel construction. The 22600 project will be delivered in 2015 and installed at Baltic Shipyard, one of the leading enterprises in the Russian shipbuilding industry. Calgon Carbon Corporation announced that its Hyde Guardian Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS), developed and manufactured by its wholly owned subsidiary, Hyde Marine, Inc., became one of the first BWTS to earn Alternate Management System (AMS) approval from the United States Coast Guard (USCG). AMS approval is a first step to achieving full USCG Type Approval and is an interim measure that allows these BWTS to be used on vessels for five years after the vessel is required to comply with the USCG Ballast Water Discharge Standards.

Hyde Marine, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation, has been selected as a strategic supply partner for ballast water treatment (BWT) systems by Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) for use on ECO’s fleet of vessels. The chemical free Hyde Guardian Gold BWT system, which has both International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval and United States Coast Guard (USCG) Alternative Management System (AMS) approval, uses efficient filtration and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection to treat ships' ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port.
