Heesters to Lead New Damen Shiprepair & Conversion Management Team

Effective November 1, 2021, Jeroen Heesters will be the new Managing Director of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, one of the seven divisions of the Damen Shipyards Group. With Finance Director Eric Snoeren, who joined the division on 1 October, he will make up the management team.After graduating in mechanical engineering, Heesters worked in the oil and gas industry. In 2008, he moved to Damen Shipyards Group, where he worked for Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen, among others.

Simwave Hires Hoorn

As of September 2017 Aat Hoorn has joined Simwave as manager engine room and high voltage simulators. These state of the art simulators comprise various engine room models presented on workstations, big views as well as a full mission engine room environment. Besides a Certificate of Competence Chief Engineer All Ships, Hoorn carries a professional Master’s degree in Education. Prior to joining Simwave Hoorn worked at various (managing) positions at a.o. Nedlloyd and AVR waste management center.

Vizag Port Mulls Major Expansion

Vishakhapatnam Port is poised for major expansion, with the Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurating several projects during his visit to the port, says government press release. The Minister inaugurated a Container Freight Station of 1 lakh TEU capacity developed by M/s.VCTPL at a cost of Rs.104 crores for which an extent of Ac 34 acres is allotted by the Port. He also inaugurated the commissioning of 6.25MW out of 10MW solar power plant. The power generated from this plant is meeting the captive consumption of the port and the excess power is proposed to be sold by third party agreements. Emergency Fast Blackout Re-start in New Maersk Jack-ups

At the request of Maersk Drilling, MAN Diesel & Turbo and Doosan, who respectively designed and built the engines for the new drillships, have managed to optimise the engines so that they offer an unprecedented starting time for emergency start scenarios. The ngines can now start in less than 10 seconds – more precisely, in 8.5 seconds – which is extremely fast compared to the standard starting time of 30-40 sec. The fast start mode will only be activated during emergency situations, i.e. during a blackout, when the rig must be back up and running as fast as possible.

New Tugboats Serve Petroleos de Venezuela

The first high-specification tugboats featuring ComAp InteliGen NT Marine equipment are now in full operation providing South American oil company Petroleos de Venezula (PDVSA) with fully owned assets capable of quick response to firefighting operations and maneuvering tankers at Venezuelan oil terminals. Previous to the Venezuelan general strike of 2002-2003, PDVSA had a fully leased fleet, leaving it vulnerable in the crude oil loading and unloading operations. Odfjell Acquires Tank Terminal in Rotterdam

On October 22, 2007 AVR Van Gansewinkel - Bedrijven, Pernis (Holding) and Odfjell Terminals (Rotterdam) B.V. (OTR), signed a contract for the sale of AVR - Maritiem, Botlek-Rt. to Odfjell. The ownership of AVR - Maritiem will be transferred to Odfjell per January 1, 2008. The new name of the company will be Odfjell Terminals Maritiem B.V. (OTM) as from same date. The parties have agreed that the sales price will be kept confidential. Located next to OTR, one of the largest tankstorage facilities in Europe, OTM will continue to operate as a separate Business Unit within the Odfjell Group and also continue operating the Harbour Receiving Unit (HOI). The close proximity will give OTR the possibility to use and operate the extra berths.
