Keppel FELS Delivers B Class Rig

Built to Keppel's proprietary KFELS B Class design, WilBoss was delivered 10 days ahead of schedule. Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), received US$40,000 from Awilco Offshore ASA (Awilco) for the early delivery of jackup drilling rig. Built to Keppel’s proprietary KFELS B Class design, the rig was delivered 10 days ahead of contractual schedule to Awilco without any lost time incidents during its construction. The rig is the second of three rigs Keppel FELS is building for Awilco.

Keppel FELS Completes Singaporean Project

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), has completed the construction of its second jackup drilling rig for Gulf Drilling International Ltd (GDI), a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC). At a ceremony on 26 January 2008, the rig was named Al-Zubarah, after one of Qatar’s very important economic centres, by Mr Mohammad Al-Shirrawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GDI. Built to Keppel’s proprietary KFELS B Class design, the rig has been customised to GDI’s requirements for drilling in the Arabian Gulf. Al-Zubarah is capable of operating in water depths of up to 300 feet, drilling 30,000 feet deep and accommodating up to 110 men.

Awilco Awarded Additional Option at Yantai Raffles

Awilco Offshore ASA (AWO) has been awarded an option to build a possible fifth semi submersible drilling rig at Yantai Raffles Shipyard. The option can be exercised until end December 2008, and would have a building period of 33 months from exercise. The additional option has been awarded AWO as part of an agreement with the yard to reschedule the delivery of the first rig, WilPioneer with 3 months to October 2008. AWO announced in the second quarter report that such a 3 months longer building period was expected.

Awilco Offshore Awarded Contract for Operation Offshore Vietnam

Awilco Offshore through Premium Drilling has entered into a Contract with Premier Oil Vietnam Offshore BV (Premier) for the jack-up drilling rig, WilBoss. The contract with Premier is for 6 months operation offshore Vietnam. If the firm contract period is increased to 12 months prior to commencement, Premier will be given an option for a further 12 month period. The firm contract value for 6 months is approximately $40m. The contract is to commence during the first quarter 2008. WilBoss is under construction at KeppelFELS Shipyard in Singapore and is scheduled for delivery at the end of the fourth quarter 2007. WilBoss is Awilco Offshore's fourth jack-up newbuilding and is equipped for high pressure/ high temperature drilling in water depths up to 400ft.

Awilco Exercises Option for Jackup Drilling Rig No. 8

Awilco Offshore (AWO) has exercised an option with PPL to build a 375-ft. jackup drilling rig with drilling depth of 30.000 ft. The rig will be named WilConfidence. The rig is to be delivered in the second quarter of 2009, and has a delivered cost of $149m. The delivered cost includes contract price with the yard, site supervision, pipe handling equipment, spare parts and finance costs during construction.

Norwegians Buy Oil Rigs

Norway’s Petrojack ASA is selling three jackup oil rigs, being built in Singapore, for $600m. Awilco Offshore ASA and Sinvest ASA will share the cost of the three offshore oil and natural gas drilling platforms. The Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 deep drilling rigs had been slated for sale to Transocean Inc., but the Houston company decided not to purchase the units. (Source: Monsters and Critics.com)

Keppel to Build a Third Jackup for Awilco

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) has secured a repeat order for a third KFELS B Class jackup rig from Awilco Offshore (Awilco) at US$146 million, via the exercise of an option agreement. The first and second rigs were announced in February and August 2005 respectively. Customised to Awilco’s requirements, the new rig, WilStrike, will be capable of drilling down to 30,000 feet in water depths of up to 400 feet. Delivery for this new rig is expected in second quarter 2009. Work on the first two rigs, WilCraft and WilBoss, is progressing well.
