A&P Shipcare Opens New Facility
A&P Shipcare have announced the opening of a new repair facility in Tilbury Freeport, London. The facility, which will support the nationwide, 24 hour, 365 day service already provided by the existing A&P Shipcare network, comprises workshop facilities in the port capable of carrying out engine and mechanical overhauls, steelwork, pipework renewals and electrical repairs and installations. Also available from this division are riding squads and procurement of ships spares. Metalock in A&P Shipcare - Chatham
A&P Group has signed an agreement between A&P Shipcare - Chatham and Metalock Engineering (U.K.) Ltd. proposing an inter company co-operation venture. The foundation of this venture is based on a close working relationship between Metalock and A&P Shipcare which goes back many years. Metalock already regularly carry out works at all A&P locations and are an ISO 9002 accredited company, as are the A&P facilities. The Metalock process is an internationally recognised brand name which is synonymous with marine and industrial repair, the world over. Metalock are not only familiar with ship repair yards, but also the technical departments of the world ship owning community and all the various classification societies.
A&P Shipcare Completes Repairs Aboard American Cormorant
The 52,092 dwt U.S.-registered Heavy Lift Vessel 'American Cormorant' left Southampton on 2nd September after its annual lay over during which A&P Shipcare - Southampton carried out various works. The 1975-built 'American Cormorant' was in the Southampton area for a visit to the Combat Equipment Battalion in Hythe. The vessel arrived in Southampton on 8th June and sailed on 29th August. The work completed by A&P Shipcare included various tank repairs which entailed bulkhead steel repairs, steel pipe refurbishment and repairs and replacement of heavy duty plastic pipe, a task which previously had never been carried out by A&P Shipcare - Southampton.
A&P Shipcare Gets Conversion Project
A&P Shipcare has recently won the contract to convert the Union Arrow from a mini bulk carrier into a self discharge bulk carrier at its Chatham facility. The vessel, which is owned by the Union Transport Group, arrived in Chatham on 18 April 2002 for a scheduled 12 day conversion period, during which a 40 tonne Samsung crane will be installed. Work will also include fitting of sloping bulkheads fore and aft, construction and fitting of a main deck insert, construction of a void area to house a bobcat machine, installation of strengthening columns, construction of hatch end coverings. In addition to the above work, the vessel will also be fitted with a new engine to assist with the extra requirements of the vessel as a self discharger.
Wightlink Extend Repair Agreement with A&P Southampton
Following the successful annual drydocking and refit of the Wightlink fleet of passenger/car ferries since January 2001, A&P Southampton and Wightlink have announced the signing of a revised annual drydocking and maintenance agreement for a further three years. This new agreement has been extended to include A&P Shipcare (Portsmouth) for all in service repair needs. A&P Southampton Managing Director, David Parry, commented “Wightlink runs one of the largest passenger fleets in the UK and operates to the highest reliability standards. We are delighted that Wightlink has agreed to extend our agreement. In working closely with Wightlink’s technical team, we have placed a strong emphasis on pre-planning for the refits.
A&P Southampton to Repair RFA Ship
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) fleet support vessel Fort George is to be repaired at the Southampton facility of A&P Group. It arrived at the yard on August 15 and is scheduled to be redelivered by September 9. Work will include an Assisted Maintenance Period (AMP) with additional work including overhaul to the insulation, electrical, piping and valve systems. There is also steel work to be carried out following a collision. The vessel does not require a drydocking operation during this period. A&P Shipcare (South East) was successful in winning the contract using the drydock at Southampton as a floating location for the ship, and making use of the large on-site cranage to effect the repairs.
Faster Propeller Repairs in the Middle East
Aiming to provide faster repair service in the Middle East to ship operators whose vessels have sustained propeller damage, Stone Marine Shipcare has signed a Service Agency Agreement with Dubai Drydock World which sees one of the companies’ mobile workshops permanently based there. The workshop will be used, not just at Drydock Worlds’ own facilities, but can be quickly transported to other Middle Eastern shipyards, wherever a ship is in need of repair or maintenance to its propeller.
A&P Shipcare Busy with Dredger Repairs
A&P Shipcare has has been busy with Dredger repairs at its Chatham facility. During the past few months, Chatham has welcomed various dredging companies including Hanson Aggregates, South Coast Shipping, United Marine Dredging and Britannia Aggregates. Of the Hanson Aggregates fleet, various afloat repairs have been undertaken on vessels including the Arco Axe, Arco Arun, Arco Adur, Arco Tyne and the Arco Dijk. The Chatham team was pleased to see the Hanson fleet returning to their facility for their repair requirements once again. Dart 4 Returns To Service Ahead Of Schedule
The 9,088 grt vehicle carrier Dart 4, which is operated by Ropner Shipmanagement (Dartford), suffered contact damage while providing service between Dartford (Kent) and Vlissingen (Holland) carrying cars from the U.K. to the European continent. While it was evident that delays in returning the vessel to service would be costly, A&P Group, on assessment of the damage, immediately transferred the vessel to Chatham, where A&P Shipcare, the specialist running and voyage repair arm of the A&P Group, commenced work on May 31, 2003. Damage included the vessel's starboard forward hold, an area of approximately 8.5 x 3 m, and two patches measuring approximately 1 sq. m. one frame aft of the main damage.
A&P Tyne to Convert Ferry
A&P Tyne Limited has signed a contract with Mercy Ships Limited to convert a former Danish rail ferry now named Africa Mercy to a hospital ship for service in Africa. The conversion will take place over an 18-month period and will include the upgrading of the existing vessel, to carry some 400 persons and a hospital facility with 6 operating theatres; 78 hospital beds and an intensive care unit. Fast Cat Visits A&P Southampton
Condor Ferries aluminium fast catamaran Condor Vitesse has just departed A&P Southampton's drydock following the completion of the vessels annual refit. The 350 dwt ferry arrived at the drydock during early November for various drydocking operation works which included cleaning and blasting of the vessels hulls and the application of a new Intersleek paint system, suitable for aluminium hulls. Other work included the removal and replacement of the generators for overhaul, aluminium repairs to the vessel's hull and superstructure, completed in association with the Group's Aluminium Welding division located at A&P Shipcare - Dover. Following a period of 14 days in dock, the vessel sailed for Weymouth on scedule where it resumed normal service.
Mothballed Vessels SE Asia Reflect Oil Slump Pain
Around 1,300 offshore support vessels lying idle worldwide. Not everyone in shipping is bemoaning the industry's worst crisis in living memory: a cluster of companies that help preserve equipment and provide security for vessels parked around southeast Asia are busier than they have been for years. A popular lay-up anchorage near Indonesia's Batam island, a short hop from Singapore, is growing crowded, and firms such as Ocean Shipcare and Brubay Shipcare are running out of space at another at Brunei Bay, near Labuan, off northern Borneo. "Where do we go next? It's a good question, because we are trying to explore some other areas also," said Kanen Senasendram, base manager at Ocean Shipcare, which operates in Brunei Bay. He says he may need to hire more staff.
IBIA Finalises Bunker Surveyor SOP
International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has finalised a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to help bunker surveyors identify their responsibilities when overseeing bunker deliveries involving Mass Flow Meters (MFMs) in Singapore. The SOP has been developed to address industry concerns and benefit all parties in the bunkering supply chain, and build trust in this new operating paradigm as Singapore moves toward the mandatory use of MFMs for supply of marine fuel oil (MFO).
Indian Navy Gets More Immediate Support Vessels
Three more Immediate Support Vessels (ISV) will be commissioned into the Western Naval Command by early next year, taking the total strength to 17. The latest batch of four ISVs - small and fast weaponised speedboat-like vessels - was commissioned a fortnight ago in a ceremony where Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present. On the occasion, Fadnavis said that the ISV will enhance the capacity of the Indian Navy to provide better security. ISVs are armed with heavy machine guns and state-of-the-art radar-navigational equipment.
A&P Tees Goes from Strength to Strength
A&P Group’s Teesside facility, located near Middlesborough, has made a successful start since re-opening for business earlier this year, success in both use of the shipyard and offering users of the River Tees, and surrounding areas, an effective and efficient ‘Shipcare’ service. The first vessel drydocked at the shipyard was the 3,086 dwt dredger Heortnesse, which is owned by Tees & Hartlepool Port Authority. This vessel underwent thruster repairs. The largest contract since then has been a two week drydocking of Farstad Shipping’s 4,680 dwt offshore supply vessel Far Service, which was in for a two week drydocking operation during late July/early August. Other drydocking contracts have included dredgers and tugs operating in the Tees region.
Viktor Lenac Books Strong Business
In September the shipyard completed repairs on nine vessels with various descriptions on the jobs performed. Standard shiprepair jobs were performed on the 8,945 dwt reefer vessel Hudson Bay, owned by German company Thien & Heyenga, and the 5,782 dwt LPG vessel Gas Century, managed by Cyprus based Hanseatic Shipping. The 18,582 dwt product tanker Calitea, owned by CA LI SA, Italy underwent standard drydock works continuing the good cooperation between the shipyard and the owner (the vessel has been under repair and conversion several times in Viktor Lenac during the last few years). A&P Group Opens Recently Acquired Facilities
The A&P Group has announced the opening of recently acquired facilities. In addition to their existing dry docks in Tyne, Falmouth and Southampton, the Group has purchased and opened facilities in Aberdeen, Birkenhead and Hebburn (Tyne), increasing the total number of dry docks from eight to fourteen. The ship repair, conversion and marine services company whose head office is in Southampton, believe that this expansion in the UK will offer their customers a greater choice when dry docking in Northern Europe, with minimal deviation and the degree of flexibility that owners and operators demand from ship repair yards. The Aberdeen based River Dee Ship Repairers has a 43 x 69 ft. dock and modern workshops and is well situated for North Sea Offshore Vessels.
Marine Fuel Quality Improving -IBIA
The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) noted an improvement in bunker quality from across the marine fuels supply chain thanks in part to a campaign launched by the association. Addressing an audience of more than 1,000 marine fuel buyers, suppliers and traders at the association’s annual dinner in London last night, IBIA Chairman Jens Maul Jorgensen said that the early results for 2015 show that there has been a marked improvement in bunker fuel quality with 8% of samples found to be off-spec compared with 10% in 2014.
