Robert Allan Ltd. has delivered a design of two unique fire-floats to Khulna Shipyard Ltd in Bangladesh. The boats will measure 18.9 m x 5.3 m with a special hard chine semi-displacement hull designed for river service and fitted with twin open style skegs for debris protection. The all aluminum hulls will be powered by two 560 kW 6135SFM85 John Deere main engines for a speed of 20 knots. Reduction gears will be Reintjes WAF 244 with 2.5:1 reduction ratio driving stainless steel shafts and bronze propellers.

India's INS Trishul has returned to Mumbai after completion of her four month long mission in the Gulf of Aden Region. The ship had left Mumbai in August 2017 for carrying out Anti Piracy Patrol in one of the most geostrategically sensitive regions of the world. The extended deployment of Trishul reflects the continued commitment of the Indian Navy to ensure security and stability in the key shipping lanes in the IOR and part of the mission based deployment philosophy the Indian Navy has adopted in recent days. Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff of the Bangladesh Navy is on an official visit to India from 28 to 30 August 2017. The visit is aimed at consolidating bilateral naval relations between India and Bangladesh and to explore new avenues for Naval Cooperation. The Chief of Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy will hold bilateral discussions with Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Naval Staff and other senior officials of the Indian Navy on 28 August 2017. The Admiral is also scheduled to meet Chief of the Air Staff, and will also call on the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, NSA and Defence Secretary as part of his official meetings in New Delhi.

On Tuesday, July 11, Damen hosted a dredging seminar in Dhaka, Bangladesh attended by more than 100 representatives from the Dutch Embassy in Bangladesh, experts from the Bangladesh Government, the Bangladesh Navy, local financing institutions, various customers of Damen and other industry stakeholders. Damen said it has enjoyed great successes all over the world in the sale of its dredging equipment, including Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers, Cutter Suction Dredgers and renowned DOP pumps.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially has commissioned the two China-made 035G diesel-electric submarines  – BNS Nabajatra and BNS Joyjatra. With the addition of the submarines, the Bangladesh Navy can, for the first time, be considered a “three-dimensional force.” Prime Minister said the government has already taken various short- and long-term plans to build Bangladesh Navy as a three-dimensional force by 2030. The premier later laid the foundation stone of a submarine base in Pekua in the coastal city of Cox’s Bazar. The Type 035G-class submarines, also known as Ming-class, were reportedly assembled at the Dalian state’s Liaonan shipyard.

The littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) completed its first Cooperation Afloat Readiness And Training (CARAT) exercise with Bangladesh in the Bay of Bengal, Oct. CARAT Bangladesh 2015 is a tangible representation of the continued U.S. commitment to our security partnership and our commitment to peace, prosperity, and security in South Asia. "The sea phase of CARAT Bangladesh was short but filled with a large number of naval warfighting core competencies that advanced our navies' interoperability," said Cmdr. Christopher Brown, commanding officer of Fort Worth. Since the initial CARAT Bangladesh in 2011, steady progress has been made in increasing the complexity and scope of the bilateral engagement.

The U.S. Coast Guard decommissioned and transferred the Cutter Rush to the Bangladesh Navy as the BNS Somudra Avijan during an official signing ceremony on Coast Guard Island in Alameda Wednesday afternoon. A 20-member team from the Bangladesh Navy, led by prospective commanding officer Capt. Mohammad Waseem Maqsood, arrived in Alameda in March to begin preparations to receive the Rush. Seventy additional crewmembers of the Bangladesh Navy are scheduled to arrive May 20. Until the BNS Somudra Avijan departs from Alameda later this year…

In a move towards strengthening its defence ties with Bangladesh, India will be exploring new avenues for naval cooperation towards achieving comprehensive maritime security in the Bay of Bengal. To this effect, Indian Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan reached Bangladesh on a four-day visit to consolidate the bilateral defence ties. Dhowan paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Sangsad Bhaban office on Monday. At the meeting, he observed that the partnership between Bangladesh Navy and Indian Navy is excellent and there are many things to learn from this partnership. The Chief of Naval Staff is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with the three Service Chiefs at Dhaka as well as call on the President during his stay at Bangladesh.

The U.S. Coast Guard held a decommissioning ceremony at Base Honolulu Tuesday for Coast Guard Cutter Rush, which will be sold to the Bangladesh Navy and replaced by Coast Guard Cutter Sherman. The ceremony honored 45 years of Rush’s service to the Coast Guard. Vice Adm. Charles W. Ray, Coast Guard Pacific Area commander, presided over the event. Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE)  is trying to get a toehold in the international market, eyeing orders worth $425 million to supply warships to the navies of the Philippines and Vietnam. A Kolkata-based shipyard will enter into the global warship market by bidding to the navies of the Philippines and Vietnam in the coming months, according to a report from Indian Express. Garden Reach Ship Builders will be competing with European and Korean firms in the run-up to the `2,000 crore tenders, to supply two frigates to the Philippines navy. Garden Reach Ship Builders  officials claim that negotiations are underway with the Vietnamese navy to supply four warships worth `600 crore.

Jarvis, a 378-foot High Endurance Cutter homeported in Alameda, decommissioned and transferred to the Bangladesh navy as the BNS Somudra Joy. The signing over ceremony took place on Coast Guard Island in Alameda. A 20-member team from the Bangladesh navy, led by prospective commanding officer Capt. Mohammad Nazmul Karim Kislu, arrived in Alameda in March to begin preparations to receive the Jarvis. An additional 70 members of the Bangladesh crew arrived in May. The Bangladesh Navy's fifth frigate, built at a cost of $100 million, arrived at the Chittagong naval port on Saturday. The frigate, 339-ft. (103.5 ,) long, is named "Bangabandhu" -- the honorific title of Bangladesh's slain independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -- and is equipped with missile and torpedo launchers and a helipad. The vessel was built by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co, after making the winning bid in 1997. Captain Zahir Uddin Ahmed of the Bangladesh Navy, who piloted the vessel to Chittagong from the Okpo shipyard on Korea's Koje island, was trained with more than 150 personnel in South Korea ahead of the delivery.
