More than a half a billion dollars in recent, current or expected improvements at three Midwestern ports will strengthen these facilities and reinforce their important roles in the global freight network. The significant investments at Port KC, America’s Central Port, and Kaskaskia Regional Port District, along with new infrastructure funding recently secured, will spur an increase in barge services and deliver cost efficiencies that drive profitability for the industry. Port KC is located on the Missouri River.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District said it received significant funds to make repairs to river training structures on the Missouri River damaged over the years culminating in the floods of 2019."I’m pleased to share that there is positive movement on Missouri River repairs to training structures. The District anticipates receiving over $270 million within the District footprint alone,” said Col. As it implies, “sources sought” is an effort by the Corps to get a big picture of companies available to undertake certain projects. A top concern is to ensure adequate competition among the potential pool of contractors. This is upfront work. The replies then influence the type of solicitation issued in the future. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is set to receive approximately $278 million under the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (IIJA). Almost $249 million of that is to repair damages caused by the 2019 flood to the Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project along the Missouri River (within the district boundary) from Rulo, Neb. to St. Louis, Mo.In addition to Missouri River repairs, several lakes in the Heartland area will benefit from the IIJA.Tuttle Creek Lake in Manhattan, Kan.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, collaborated with the St. Paul District, of the Mississippi Valley Division, to bring the Dredge Goetz onto the Missouri River from late October through early November 2021 to participate in a pilot project to dredge sediment that had created shallow areas in the shipping channel.The Goetz has provided critical assistance to the Kansas City District through this pilot program, said Maj. Healy Tibbitts Builders, Inc., Aiea, Hawaii, is being awarded $12,613,064 for firm-fixed price Task Order 0016 under previously awarded indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity multiple award construction contract to dredge West Loch Channel for the T-AKE vessel at Naval Magazine, Pearl Harbor. The work to be performed provides for construction dredging in the West Loch Channel to provide access and berthing facilities at Wharves W1, W2, and W3 for the T-AKE vessel. The project also provides horizontal directional drilling construction of a water line under West Loch channel and bank stabilization along the dredged/excavated shoreline along Baltimore Point by slope control.

The US Army Corps of Engineers issued a notice stating that it intends to prepare a draft environmental impact statement for the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet (MRGO) Navigation Project for bank stabilization. Comments should be submitted by January 4, 2007. 71 Fed. Reg. 7449 source: HK Law

The President has signed legislation (H.R. 4060) appropriating $3.96 billion for the USACE's civil works program for FY 99, which began October 1. In addition, the Bonneville Power Administration will transfer $106 million for operation and maintenance (O&M) of the USACE's hydropower projects in the Pacific Northwest, bringing the civil works funding level for the current fiscal year to $4.07 billion - not counting almost $200 million in additional funds included in the supplemental appropriations measure signed on October 21. Included in the catch-all appropriations bill is $50 million for the Tennessee Valley Authority's non- power programs and $35 million for fish mitigation on the Columbia River.
