Former ‘Google Barge’ Sold

After concluding two 3,500HP tug sales on December 30, Marcon International Inc. has started 2015 with three ocean barge sales, and hopes to report on several additional sales before the end of this month. Five 4,500-6,000HP tugs, one 5,150BHP AHTS and two 3,200 – 5,500dwt ocean barges continue to be fixed on previously arranged long-term charters. The most recent transaction is the purchase by private U.S. West Coast Buyers of the former “Google barge JMC 262” (ex-BAL0001, CIB 721) from Cashman Equipment Corp.

Marcon Sells 11th Ocean Tank Barge This Year

The single skin, ocean tank barge, B. No. 105, was sold to West African buyers after sellers took delivery of their newbuilding double-hull replacement. The barge, re-named Heyden-Lamissa, was built by Gretna Machine & Iron Works, Gretna, LA in 1971. Principal dimensions are 340 ft by 70 ft by 27.5 ft hull depth. Cargo capacity is 12,889 tons or abt. 102,000 bbls in 10 coiled cargo tanks. Special features include a 12 million BTU self-heating system and crew accommodations for four persons.

Florida Marine Transportation Inc., New Orleans, La. filed the charges in Louisiana State Court claiming the coating material inside the barge hull voids was a food source for bacteria that was causing the premature deterioration of the steel. There has been no reported problem with the tank holding the petroleum. The barge company said they had taken three of the 18 barges out of service due to the corrosion problem and they were working with the U.S. Coast Guard inspection department in New Orleans to investigate the problem. "We are working with the Coast Guard and the preeminent scientist in the country on this problem", said Jason Belcher, Florida Marine president. "We think this is an industry problem that will impact other carriers", Belcher added.

Crowley Orders ATB at Bollinger

Crowley Fuels LLC has signed a contract with Bollinger Shipyards for the construction of a new 100,000-barrel-capacity articulated tug-barge (ATB) to transport multiple clean petroleum products in the Alaska market. The Alaska-class vessel will be built at Bollinger Marine Fabricators Shipyard, in Amelia, La., with an expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2019. The build contract includes an option for a second ATB. Once built and deployed, Crowley will operate the ATB under a long-term charter with Alaska-based Petro Star Inc.…

62 Barges Break Free on Ohio River

More than five dozen barges have reportedly broken free due to ice and high water at two separate locations on the Ohio River. So far 59 of the 62 breakaway barges have been recovered, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, who said it is working alongside the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and industry partners in response to the incidents near Pittsburgh, Pa., and Moundsville, W.Va. By Monday, 34 of the reported 35 breakaway barges from fleeting areas at mile maker 94 near Moundsville have been recovered and secured, while 25 of the 27 breakaway barges from Jack’s Run Fleeting area at mile marker 4 near Pittsburgh have been accounted for, and security video has shown seven of the barges went over Emsworth Lock & Dam.

Tank Barge Report

Currently, Marcon International, Inc., the ship sale & chartering firm, has 62 inland tank barges available for sale, down from 124 in June 1996. Most of these are typical U.S. inland river units of approximately 30 years of age (vs. an average active U.S. inland fleet age of 24 years). Marcon also has listed and available for sale a total of 41 ocean and coastwise barges compared with 50 in June 1996. Most of these are older single skin units. Even with OPA 90 retirement dates approaching and double skins being built, the firm reports not seeing any great numbers of U.S. single hull tank barges coming on the market - especially from the ocean and coastal fleets. There is a wide split in price ranges for those vessels for sale.

TEN Sells, Leaseback Two Suezmax Tankers

Greece-based Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN)  has announced that it has sold for $65.2 million gross, through a five-year sale and leaseback transaction, the 2005-built Suezmax tankers Eurochampion 2004 and Euronike. The sale proceeds have been used to reduce debt and add $16.0 million of cash to TEN’s balance sheet. Marcon Sells Ocean-going Tank Barge

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington started out the New Year right with the sale of the ocean-going, combo deck / tank barge “PCC Provider” on 3rd January to Alaskan buyers. The 5,451 mtdw, 250’ x 74’ x 19’ depth barge was specifically designed by Dixon Naval Architects and built in 1999 by CSC Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China for transport of up to 6,200 short tons of limestone rock on deck and/or approx. 1,000,000 U.S. gallons of liquid slurry in 10 double-hull…

ACL Closes the Sale of its Venezuelan Operations

American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) announced that it has closed the previously announced sale of its interest in ACBL Venezuela, LTD and GMS Venezuela, C.A. . The sale results in the divestiture of the Company’s barge, towboat and related assets that were used to provide barging services on the Orinoco River in Venezuela. The sales proceeds are approximately thirty-two million United States dollars (US $32,000,000), subject to post-closing adjustments. The ownership interest was sold to a consortium of businessmen.

MarAd Approves the Sale of Vessels

The Maritime Administration (MarAd) has approved the sale and transfer of five vessels under section 9 of the Shipping Act, of 1916, as amended. On December 12 2007, MarAd approved an application filed by Rowan Companies, Inc., of Houston, TX. for the transfer of the mobile offshore drilling unit Hank Boswell (Official No. 1183234), to Marshall Islands registry and flag. On December 27, 2007, MarAd approved an application filed by Mobro Marine, Inc., of Green Cove Springs, FL, for sale of the freight barge MB 5500 Official No. 1080955, and the transfer of said vessel to Construction Norberto Odebrecht, S.A. a Venezuelan corporation, and transfer of said vessel to Venezuelan registry and flag.

Ocean Deck Barge Sold

The barge was classed ABS +A1 Barge, Unrestricted Service and built with a 12mm side shell and 16mm bottom and deck plate. Uniform deck load is 15mt/m2. The 300’ (91.5m) x 90’ 27.46m) x 18’ (5.50m) barge will head for under her new name, Nostag 10. The buyer requested removal of the bin walls prior to delivery. This is the second newbuild barge that Marcon International of Coupeville, Washington has sold from this shipyard. Marcon acted as sole broker. To-date this year Marcon has sold 7 ocean deck barges totaling 52,029dwt capacity. Since 1990, when we started closely tracking sales, Marcon has sold 95 ocean deck barges with an aggregate capacity of over 600,000dwt. Ocean Deck Barge Sold

Marcon International, Inc. announced the sale of the 5,000tdw ocean deck barge Mitkof Provider from Alaska Marine Lines of Seattle, Wash., to Island Tug and Barge Co., also of Seattle. The 280’ x 60’ x 17’ barge was originally built in 1969 by Todd Shipyard, Seattle, Wash. as the “Vanliner 280” and after converted and named “Foss 280” served first as the foundation of a 221 man camp for Prudhoe Bay operations in the Arctic and later housed personnel involved in the Exxon Oil Spill Cleanup.. She was sold by Foss in the early – mid’90’s to Alaska Marine Lines who eventually removed the modular housing units and installed a new 7’ high fence and concrete deck with steel “T” beams every 42” allowing the barge to trade as a conventional flat deck barge. AEP to Sell AEP River Ops To ACL

American Electric Power (AEP) has signed an agreement to sell its commercial barge transportation subsidiary, AEP River Operations LLC, to American Commercial Lines (ACL), owned by Platinum Equity, for approximately $550 million. AEP River Operations is a commercial inland barge company delivering about 45 million tons of products annually, including 10 million tons of coal. AEP River Operations has 56 towboats, 2,301 barges and 1,090 employees. The company is headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri, with operations in Paducah, Kentucky, and Convent, Algiers and Belle Chasse, Louisiana.

ACL 3Q Results

American Commercial Lines Inc. (Nasdaq: ACLI) ("ACL" or the "Company") announced results for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2008. Revenues for the quarter were $313.7 million, a 21% increase compared with $258.4 million for the third quarter of 2007. Income from continuing operations for the quarter was $18.4 million or $0.36 per diluted share, compared to $15.9 million or $0.30 per diluted share for the third quarter of 2007. Michael P. Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "The third quarter presented us with both challenges and opportunities. We again had multiple significant weather events, including two hurricanes, which limited our operating capabilities throughout the quarter.

World's Largest Hover-Barge Sold

Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington has announced the sale of the unfinished, newbuilding hover barge "Monty" by builder Sundial Marine Construction & Repair of Troutdale, Oregon. to private buyers. This unique hover or air cushion barge (ACB) was designed to hover about 5' above the surface while carrying about 450 tons of deck cargo on a clear deck of abt. 9,000ft2. She was being built for Vancouver-based Redfern Resources, Ltd. of British Columbia, Canada to transport cargoes of supplies in and ore concentrates out to/from a multi-metal gold…

SUNY Maritime College is requesting sealed bids from bidders to purchase a Water Barge named the SUNY No. 1 (a/k/a/ EX-Water Barge No. 42) in its current “as-is, where-is” condition at its current mooring. Ultrapetrol to Refinance, Sells 7 Barges

In related recent announcements Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) says it intends to offer secured Notes, & has completed the sale of 7 barges. Business and Ocean Business), announced today its intention to offer to sell, subject to market and other conditions, $200.0 million aggregate principal amount of its senior secured notes due 2021. The company plans to use the net proceeds of the offering to fully refinance its existing $180 million aggregate principal amount of its senior notes due 2014, as well as for general corporate purposes. Secondly, the company announce the sale of of a further seven tank barges to a third party in Colombia who have exercised their option for these additional barges. The barges are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2013.

Foss Sells Selected Assets to Tidewater

Foss Maritime Company announced that it has agreed to sell selected assets, including two tugs and twenty barges currently operating on the Columbia Snake River system, to based Tidewater Barge Lines. Foss made the decision to sell selected assets in order to focus its efforts and investment in its strategic lines of business including ship assist, ocean towing and special projects. The sale will help the company maintain its strategic focus and standards of quality, said Scott Merritt, Foss’ Senior Vice President of Operations, citing the need for additional vessels and upgrades on its existing upriver tugs as contributing to the sale’s timing. “The most important thing for Foss is to ensure that we provide our customers with the highest quality service,” said Mr. Merritt.

MarAd Approves Vessel Sale and Transfer

Moody's: Sale of Inland River Barge Ops is a "Credit Negative" for United Maritime

New York, April 24, 2012 -- Moody's issued a press release on the planned sale of United Maritime Group, LLC's ("UMG", B2 stable) inland river barge operation, United Barge Line, LLC ("UBL") to Ingram Barge Company (not rated) for $222 million, calling it is negative for the company's credit profile. UMG's business profile will change and cash flow generating capacity will meaningfully reduce with the divestiture of its inland river barging operations.  However, net proceeds likely in excess of $200 million could fund the repayment of a significant portion of UMG's indebtedness.  For further information, please see www.moodys.com

Matson Increases Neighbor Island Barge Capacity

Matson, Inc. said its subsidiary Matson Navigation Company, Inc. has replaced one of its three barges dedicated to serving Hawaii's neighbor island ports with a newer, larger barge that will improve service levels. The container barge Columbia, to be renamed Mauna Loa in honor of the barge it replaces, is now Matson's largest barge. At 360 feet long, with a beam (width) of 100 feet and cargo carrying capacity of 12,600 tons or 500 TEU, it is 12 feet longer and 40 feet wider than the barge it replaces, with the capacity to carry 180 more TEU or nearly 8,000 tons more cargo. Built in 2012 by Gunderson Marine and classified as a Deck Cargo Barge with approximately 33,000 square feet of deck cargo space, the vessel's design enables swifter and more fuel efficient transits.
