Telemar Bags Maintenance and Service Deal from MINSHIP

Marlink subsidiary Telemar has signed a maintenance and service agreement for eight bulk carriers operated by MINSHIP Shipmanagement.The contract will see Telemar provide global service coordination for Bavaria-based MINSHIP. It includes the provision of the latest Telemar World Service (TWS), a web-based tool for managing scheduled and predictive service appointments for the entire MINSHIP fleet, increasing visibility on service intervals and optimizing vessel availability.MINSHIP provides long-term management and logistics solutions for both its vessel owners and cargo trading clients.

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems Profitable Despite 17% Revenue Plunge

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division has ended the 2020 financial year with an underlying operating profit of $247.3 million despite suffering a 17% drop in underlying revenue to $3.8 billion. This corresponds to an underlying operating margin of 6.5% (2019: 11.5%). EGS Connects Dutch Deepsea Terminals

The intermodal service provider European Gateway Services (EGS) offers network of connections between all deepsea terminals Maasvlakte Rotterdam with Nuremberg in Netharlands.The Rotterdam - Nuremberg rail shuttle is now already calling at all the deepsea terminals at the Maasvlakte (1 and 2).Three times a week, EGS provides a rail connection between Rotterdam and Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria and vice versa. First Mobile Harbor Crane with Exhaust Gas Stage V

A new Liebherr LHM 420 Mobile Harbor Crane was officially inaugurated in the middle of February in Passau, Bavaria. The new machine in the port of Passau is the first Liebherr Mobile Harbor Crane to comply with the new exhaust gas purification stage V.Around ten years after the opening of the trimodal port location in Passau-Schalding, bayernhafen has once again significantly expanded its infrastructure. In addition to new extension railway an investment was also made in a new mobile harbor crane. bayernhafen Passau is Bavaria's gateway to and from south-eastern Europe.

Michael Müller New CEO of Bavaria Yachts

Bavaria Yachts, the producer of sailing and motor yachts in Europe, has appointed Michael Müller as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH in Germany. He will also be responsible for the division of the Nautitech Catamarans SAS in France.The move follows on from a three-month tenure for Michael as MD for sales and marketing for the group. This position was previously vacant.“In the few weeks with Michael Müller on board we have learned how effective he is and how well he has been received by employees and dealers,” said Dr Ralph Kudla of CMP Capital Management Partners, representing and advising the investing equity fund and chief restructuring officer.

Led by Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon, ably supported by sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, TV wildlife presenter and trained diver Miranda Krestovnikoff, BAFTA award-winning wildlife expert Steve Backshall, explorer, writer and TV presenter Monty Halls and Diane Youdale, otherwise known as Jet from Gladiators. But the real star of the show was Natasha Lambert. She has a condition called Athetoid Cerebral Palsy which means that she has no voluntary control over her limbs and difficulty in articulating speech…

Hamburg Port's Rail Network Sets European Benchmark

In their “Best route market study for containerised imports to South Germany”, published at the beginning of March, the Drewry Group’s supply-chain consultants investigated via which ports containers imported from Shanghai can be transported fastest and cheapest to southern Germany, i.e. Munich, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Ulm and Nuremberg. In almost all markets under consideration, Hamburg comes out better than Rotterdam, Antwerp and the southern ports in the Mediterranean. Contributing to this are numerous direct services, a high departure frequency for container block trains and the fast transit times to/from the Hamburg quay wall. Across the North Range a total of 16 Far East liner services are currently on offer from the major container shipping lines.

Management Shuffle at Atlas Elektronik

Dr. Rolf Wirtz will become Chief Executive Officer of the naval electronics systems provider Atlas Elektronik GmbH, with effect from January 1, 2016. He will succeed Volker Paltzo who will leave the company on December 31, 2015 and take on a new role as Chief Executive Officer of Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH in Hallbergmoos, Bavaria. In his previous assignment, Rolf Wirtz was Senior Vice President and acted as Head of the business unit “Sensors, Electronic Warfare & Avionics” unit of Airbus Defence and Space and also Head of the Development and Production unit within the Electronics business line. Over and above this, he directed the Ulm location of Airbus. The Management Board will be extended by one more member. This new position will be taken over by Dr.

APMT Purchases Italian Reefer Terminal Vado Ligure

APM Terminals (APMT) has purchased Vado Ligure Reefer Terminal in North-Western Italy, near Genoa, from the GF Group. Reefer Terminal has been the largest refrigerated terminal in the Mediterranean for more than 30 years, handles 600,000 pallets a year as well as 275,000 teu. The terms and the price of the deal were not disclosed. Located on Italy’s northwest Ligurian Coast, Vado Reefer Terminal represents an annual throughout capacity of 275,000 TEUs, with 510 reefer plugs, a depth of 14.5 meters, and 465 meters of quay and handles 600,000 pallets of fresh fruit imported into northern Italy and inland European locations. APMT acquired the terminal as part of its Vado port master plan to create new supply chains to markets in Northern Italy, Southern France, Switzerland and Bavaria.

APM Terminals Acquires Reefer Terminal S.p.A.

APM Terminals and GF Group are pleased to announce the acquisition of 100% of Reefer Terminal S.p.A. by APM Terminals has been completed today. Terms and price were not disclosed. Reefer Terminal, the largest refrigerated terminal in the Mediterranean for more than thirty years handling 600,000 pallets per year, is also a world-class terminal for the handling of containers (275,000 TEU, 510 reefer plugs, 14.5 meter depth and 465 meter of quay) and general cargo. APM Terminals has acquired the Vado Ligure Reefer Terminal as part of the port master plan to create new supply chains to markets in Northern Italy, Southern France, Switzerland and Bavaria.

G7 May Address South China Sea Dispute

AFP reports that the G7 summit would express concern about unilateral efforts to assert sovereignty claims in the disputed South China Sea. John Kirton, director of think-tank the G7 Research Group, has said maritime disputes between China and its neighbours would be on the agenda of the summit in Germany. Japan's Yomiuri newspaper also said Saturday the summit would take up the issue. Citing sources, the paper said a closing statement would express concern about unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East China Sea and the South China Sea. In descriptions about the waters involved, while avoiding naming China, the statement is expected to express opposition to moves to unilaterally change the status quo.

Rotterdam, Bavaria Launch Intermodal Research

Good connections between seaports and the hinterland are vital for optimizing the logistic chain. The Port of Rotterdam Authority and the Bayernhafen Gruppe are therefore working together in the ‘Bayrolo’ research program. The aim of this cross-border project is to further improve intermodal container transport between Bavaria and the port of Rotterdam. By taking containers off the road and shipping them by barge and rail, cargo flows will be able to continue growing and the port of Rotterdam will be able to offer the German inland ports an alternative seaport.

Ports & Cities: New OECD Report on Complex Relationship

The main question is: are ports still drivers of urban growth, and how can this effectively be achieved? This issue is tackled in the OECD's recent report 'Competitiveness of Global Port-Cities. Many economic benefits are associated with well-functioning ports. They lower the costs of trade, generate value added and employment and attract certain economic sectors. Doubling port efficiency of two countries is found to increase their bilateral trade volume with 32% as indicated by an earlier study. One tonne of port throughput is on average associated with USD 100 of economic value added, and an increase of one million tonnes of port throughput is associated with an increase in employment in the port region of 300 jobs in the short term.

Bavaria Vision 46 named Cruising World’s 2013 'Boat of the Year' in the competitive full-size cruising class. The first of Bavaria’s recently launched Vision Series, the all new 46 caught the eye of Cruising World’s panel of judges because it "more than met its stated objective (of being) the ultimate ‘couple’s’ cruiser, easy to sail and operate and possessing lavish appointments and accoutrements.” Furthermore the judges praised the Vision 46’s “easily driven hull and notable sailing characteristics.

New Farr-design Sailboat From Bavaria Yachts

The new 7m (23ft) trailerable, one-design sport sailing boat, 'B/One' was built by Bavaria Yachts in Giebelstadt, Germany. Bavaria asked Farr Yacht Design for an economical one-design that would impress advanced sailors with excellent performance, yet be easy to handle and operate for the weekend sailor and his/her family. Farr Yacht Design, the designers of the B/One, have met these requirements with a technologically advanced hull shape developed from the Volvo Open 70 and Farr 400, an easy to use sailplan, and interior features you would expect to find on a boat 3 feet longer.
