Elliott Bay Design Announces Promotions
Elliott Bay Design Group has announced two promotions within the firm. Brian King has been named vice president of engineering and Douglas Wolff has been promoted to vice president of operations. Brian King joined Elliott Bay Design Group in 1988 as the Seattle-based firm's Chief Marine Engineer. In the role of vice president, King will oversee and manage the firm's engineering and technical resources, ensuring superior quality and technical excellence. Elliott Bay Design Lands Level of Effort Contract
Seattle-based Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) announces that it has secured another 4-year Level of Effort contract with Washington State Ferries (WSF). This is the fourth such contract awarded the firm. Recent projects completed under the previous contract include a Fleet-Wide ADA Compliance Survey and the M/V SPOKANE and M/V WALLA WALLA Generator Replacement project.
American Commercial Lines Inc. Closes Agreement with Elliot Bay Design Group
American Commercial Lines Inc. (NASDAQ: ACLI) announced that it has closed the previously announced agreement to acquire the assets of Elliott Bay Design Group, Ltd. (“EBDG”) a naval architecture and marine engineering firm. EBDG is located in Seattle, Washington, and has recently opened a second office in New Orleans, Louisiana. The new company, Elliott Bay Design Group LLC, will continue to provide naval architecture, marine engineering and production support to its many customers in the commercial marine industry, while also providing ACL with expertise in support of its transportation and Jeffboat shipyard businesses.
EBDG Adds Staff
Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) said that Darren Monzingo has re-joined Elliott Bay Design Group. Darren first joined EBDG in 2003, bringing marine engineering experience in both the military and commercial marine sectors. He works out of Tampa, Florida in support of projects for EBDG's Seattle and New Orleans offices, where he is responsible for developing concept and contract designs, feasibility studies and cost analyses for new vessel construction and existing vessel modifications. EBDG said that James Jennings has earned status as a professional engineer.

ACL Acquires EBDG
American Commercial Lines Inc has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Elliott Bay Design Group, Ltd. (EBDG) a naval architecture and marine engineering firm. EBDG is located in Seattle, Wash., and has recently opened a second office in New Orleans, Louisiana. The financial terms of the investment were not disclosed but are not material to the Company. The new company, Elliott Bay Design Group LLC, will continue to provide naval architecture, marine engineering and production support to its many customers in the commercial marine industry, while providing ACL with capability supporting its transportation and Jeffboat shipyard businesses. EBDG was formed in 1987 and has grown to more than 60 architects, engineers, designers, and support personnel.
Elliott Bay Design Group Announces Staff Additions
Elliott Bay Design Group announced that David Smith has joined the firm as Project Manager. Smith brings over 25 years of shipyard design and construction experience to the team and has worked in shipyards across the country. Smith is currently leading the design effort for a new Ship Docking Module. John Farmer joins the team as a Designer II. Farmer has a BS in mechanical engineering technology from Purdue University and over 10 years of 3-D design and surface modeling experience. Farmer is currently working on a tank barge for Bollinger Shipyards. We are also pleased to announce that Alisha Lamb has been promoted to Designer III. Lamb joined EBDG in 2003 and has been actively supporting the firm's design team.

Ranson Joins Elliott Bay Design Group
Mark Ranson has joined Elliott Bay Design Group, bringing with him thirty years of experience in structural design and lofting for the marine industry. His work history includes lofting for new builds and repairs, and eventually led to his specialization in the computer modeling of ship structures. With this focus, Ranson has worked on large self-unloading bulk carriers, offshore support vessels, research vessels, submarines, tugs, and workboats. Ranson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology-Product Development from the University of Wisconsin. He is currently working on the structural design of a new landing craft and is providing assistance with numerous ongoing lofting projects.

Elliott Bay Design Group of Seattle recently completed stability tests and calculations for the KLONDIKE SPIRIT, an all-steel side-wheeler recently built on the Yukon River in Alaska. The vessel, which can carry up to 120 passengers, will be used to take tourists on daytrips through the scenic Yukon canyons downriver of Dawson (Yukon, Canada) when it begins operation in June, 2005. Constructed in Eagle City, Alaska, by Nick Turner and Charlie House, the vessel offers three passenger decks, a food service galley and two staterooms for crews.

The vessel, which can carry up to 120 passengers, will be used to take tourists on daytrips through the scenic Yukon canyons downriver of Dawson (Yukon, Canada) when it begins operation in June, 2005. Constructed in Eagle City, Alaska, by Nick Turner and Charlie House, the vessel offers three passenger decks, a food service galley and two staterooms for crews. Eagle City is located along the Yukon River approximately 9 miles west of the Canadian border. The KLONDIKE SPIRIT is the first side-wheeler to be built on the Yukon in decades.
Elliott Bay Design Group Celebrates 25 Years
After a quarter of a century, EBDG leads the U.S. ferry market and begins a new journey as a unique employee-owned company. Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) celebrates its 25th anniversary and a successful first year following a management buyout by nearly half its employees. Since EBDG opened its doors it has designed tugs, research vessels, offshore supply vessels, and more vehicle ferries than any other U.S. firm. Brian King, Vice President of Engineering, was one of the first employees hired after the company was founded in 1988.
Garfitt Joins Elliott Bay Design Group
Seattle-based Elliott Bay Design Group announces the addition of John Garfitt to its marine engineering team. John has over 10 years of marine engineering experience and has worked on projects all over the world. As a senior marine engineer, John is involved in the Repower Study for the M/V COLUMBIA and will be lending his expertise to the Pierce County Waterborne Transportation Study. John is a licensed professional engineer in Canada and is currently working toward his U.S. license. Prior to joining EBDG, John served as vice president for Queenship Yachts and worked with BC Ferries.

Roy Neyman has joined Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) as Project Manager, bringing with him nearly thirty years of marine industry experience with both government and commercial ship design, construction, and operation projects. David Wright has joined EBDG also, bringing more than 16 years of drafting and design experience. In his role as Marine Designer he is currently supporting the design of a series of landing craft vessels that will soon begin construction at Kvichak Marine Industries.

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) has appointed Charlie Bills to the position of staff operations manager for the naval architecture and marine engineering firm. Coordinating efforts with the project operations manager, he will be responsible for planning and managing the efforts of EBDG staff working in support of their project managers.
Johansen Joins EBDG Electrical Team
Erik Johansen joined Elliott Bay Design Group's (EBDG) New Orleans office in December 2016 bringing with him 20 years of marine electrical experience. Johansen’s expertise includes supporting offshore vessel operators with major modifications, conversions and oversight of electrical contractors. His portfolio of vessel types includes workboats, ferries, tugboats, platform support vessels and chemical and petroleum carriers. Freight-Passenger Ferry for Steamship Authority

Minning Joins EBDG
Michael Minnig has recently joined the structural engineering team at Elliott Bay Design Group. He holds a BS in Maritime Systems Engineering from Texas A & M at Galveston and a MS in Ocean Engineering from Virginia Tech. Before relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Michael worked for Northrop Grumman at their Ingalls Shipbuilding facility in Pascagoula,Miss. His first project, to model and perform structural analysis on a 320 ft. x 126 ft. drydock facility.
Bone Joins EBDG
Jason Bone has joined the staff of Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) as an Engineer. A recent graduate of University of Michigan, Bone holds a B.S. in Engineering and a Masters of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, specializing in marine structures. Prior to joining the firm, Bone completed internships at Avondale Shipyard working on new oil tanker construction and CSC's Advanced Marine Division.
Baker Joins EBDG
Elliott Bay Design Group is pleased to announce that Gwen Baker has joined the staff as a Marine Designer. Gwen is a recent graduate of the Marine Institute at Memorial University in New Foundland, where she received her Diploma of Technology in Naval Architecture. For her first project, Gwen will be preparing 3-D composite modeling for the 260 ft. offshore supply vessel that the firm has been working on for Hornbeck Offshore Services.
Bulbous Bow Fabricated and Installed on M/V Monte Carlo
In March 2006 Bay Ship & Yacht Co. installed two new series 60 Detroit Diesel engines, a new bulbous bow, bow thruster, and a new reinforced rub rail on the dinner boat Monte Carlo owned by Hornblower Yachts. The initial design for modification work was drawn up by Dejong & Lebet of Jacksonville, Florida. Bay Design and Engineering provided detail design for most of the modification items, including a new engine bed design for proper shaft alignment, and CNC flat patterns for the bulbous bow. Layout, fabrication and assembly of the bulbous bow was accomplished on the drydock by Bay Ship’s experienced pattern makers and welding crew. Meanwhile, a new bow thruster was fitted and welded in place, and new gensets, shafting, boarding gates, sewage transport system and mast were installed.
Vigor Delivers Tank EBDG Barge to Maxum Petroleum
The Seattle divisions of Vigor Fab and Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) today announced that the 15,000-barrel tank barge Global Pilot has been delivered to Maxum Petroleum. Designed to balance performance with fabrication cost, the 15,000-barrel tank barge features a recessed machinery space aft for improved visibility and a state-of-the-art tankerman’s office. It also has dimensionally identical cargo tanks, corrugated plate tank bulkheads, and plate seams arranged to maximize material usage of standard 8-foot and 10-foot plates.
Naval Architect Pens History of Northwest Fishing Vessels
