Wärtsilä Inks Lifecycle Agreement with P&O Ferries for Two Vessels

Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a Lifecycle Agreement with UK-based P&O Ferries for two of its vessels – the M/V Pioneer and the M/V Liberté.The scope of the five-year agreement the Lifecycle Agreement with P&O Ferries includes parts and maintenance services, as well as maintenance planning, operational support and Wärtsilä’s Expert Insight predictive maintenance service.The predictive service enables issues to be identified before they cause a delay in the schedule. Scots Ferry Operator CalMac Wins Top Travel Award

Ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) has beaten 13 major ferry companies to be named for the fourth year in a row, “Best Ferry Company” in the prestigious Guardian and Observer Travel Awards. The award, which is the result of an annual poll of readers who are asked to rate the quality of service they received on their holidays across the world, is CalMac’s fourth award in 2013. He added: “The timing of all these awards could not be better as we prepare to bid for the next Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services contract.

Stena Line Renews Agreement with MCP

Maritime Communications Partner (MCP) announced the renewal of a major four-year management contract with the Stena Line for the deployment of maritime communications solutions onboard 16 passenger ferry vessels including two new super ferries. Services covered by the contract, which lasts until 2013, include GSM and GPRS. Stena Line also confirms future partnering with MCP to streamline dedicated wireless solutions to ship staff and unique SMS-driven marketing solutions to passengers. "This contract maintains and builds a positive environment for our customers. Today, 95% of our GSM business comes from Voice and SMS, but we are seeing an increased volume of data traffic.
