Mersey Maritime: Small Business at Heart of Isle of Man Partnership

UK Industry trade body Mersey Maritime has announced a new trade agreement with the Isle of Man Shipping Association (IOMSA) which aims to supercharge bilateral trade, particularly among small to medium sized businesses. The agreement was announced at a special reception during the International Festival of Business in Liverpool UK and has resulted from a series of discussions facilitated by the Isle of Man Ship Registry, which is an Executive Club member of Mersey Maritime, and other IoM based companies such as software engineer PDMS, both of which are also involved with IOMSA.

V.Ships Wins Fortress Deal

V.Ships Offshore, part of V.Group has been awarded a ship management contract by Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC to provide full technical and crew management services for an advanced SURF/IMR vessel. The ship management services will be delivered from our newly acquired Bibby Ship Management office in Singapore led by Arvind Mohan. Nineteen specialised seafarers, with final complement subject to project requirements, are being deployed on board the 2014-built DP-3 vessel, Pride, which has been on charter in Malaysian waters.

Liverpool Industry Inspires GenNex Mariners

Major global independent common carrier, X-Press Feeders and Bibby Ship Management have put training at the forefront of their investment into the next generation of highly trained and capable crew, by enrolling a group of young aspiring seafarers onto their Trainee Engineering Officer and Trainee Deck Office programmes. The four cadets – Luke Jakes, Conrad Dempsey, Claire Allan and Jonathan Jones – have just started their three-year Officer Cadet training and, as such, will experience a wealth of maritime activity, both at sea and academically at various marine institutions throughout the UK. Under an agreement with X-Press Feeders, Bibby Ship Management will undertake management of the cadets and the trainee officer programme.

Bibby Tops IoM Ship Management

Bibby Ship Management is once again the largest representative for vessels flying the Isle of Man flag in providing representative services for 30% of vessel tonnage registered on the island. This compares with 25% in 2014, according to official statistics. The Isle of Man Ship Registry’s total merchant vessel fleet stands at 407, equating to 14.95m gross tons. From these vessels, Bibby Ship Management has increased its portfolio to 90, an increase of 10 vessels from November 2015. Mark Robertshaw, Group Commercial Director for Bibby Ship Management, said: “Representing the largest proportion of vessels isn’t just a reflection on the quality of the services we offer to our customers, but also how Bibby Ship Management is regarded on the Isle of Man.

Barham Named UK Ship Register Director

Barham brings to the position both commercial and technical experience from his 40 year career in the industry. Wagh Joins BSM India as Dy MD

Bibby Ship Management welcomed Sanjiv Wagh as Deputy Managing Director of its India offices. With over 30 year’s industry experience, Mr Wagh joins Bibby Ship Management from Kongsberg where he was General Sales Manager for Kongsberg Maritime India. During his time with Kongsberg, he occupied a number of roles covering research and development, ship simulation and analytics. Mr Wagh joins Bibby Ship Management India handling the support functions and other operational areas within each local business. BSM Completes Global Management Program

Bibby Ship Management has successfully completed its second Global Management Programme which, it says, has helped to develop the management skills of all its management team across its global offices. According to Nicola Quayle, Head of Group HR, at Bibby Ship Management, the Global Management Programme 2015 was designed to benefit all levels across management. -          Two x two-day workshops to explore management principles, theories and models and establish how to apply these back into the workplace. -          Explored the strengths and challenges that colleagues face within the context of their locations and functional areas. Liam Means Business for Shipping Cluster

Enterprising student Liam Finch has been putting his summer days to good use by working on an important survey for the Isle of Man Shipping Association (IOMSA). Liam, 20, is involved in a project aiming to shed light on the value of the marine industry to the island. He has based himself at the premises of Bibby Ship Management Group Ltd on the Isle of Man Business Park. Bibby commercial director Mark Robertshaw is also vice chairman of the IOMSA and welcomed Liam onboard to undertake the work. Liam, from Derbyhaven, is studying Viking Studies at the University of Nottingham. The scheme itself takes place during the summer over a period of six to 12 weeks depending on the size of the project and needs of the business / organisation.

The Human Element of Ship Management

The best third party ship managers employ technology, good business practices, economies of scale and a customized approach for each client. None of that will succeed without first addressing the human element of the equation. Ship managers Crowley Maritime, Thome and Bibby Ship management companies all manage tonnage for others, in sometimes dissimilar sectors and different regions and world trades. Those differences set the three groups apart in terms of the skill sets necessary to manage different classes and types of ships. What brings them all together is a common belief that the human element of ship management is a critical piece of the equation. As it turns out, it may actually be the most important.

Bibby Secures Two More Offshore Contracts

Bibby Ship Management announced it has secured two new contracts in the offshore oil and gas sector. Bibby Ship Management Singapore has been appointed as the technical and crewing managers for the OSX 2, an FPSO vessel, working in conjunction with overall project managers Tecnomar & Associates. The office has also secured a contract with Global Samson to take over the management of two Platform Supply Vessels, the newbuild Ocean Turquoise 1 and another vessel which is currently being finalized.

Murray Fenton India, the Technical Services division of Bibby Ship Management (India) Pvt. Ltd, has been appointed by a consortium of banks as “Lenders Independent Engineers” for the ABG Shipyard Project. This project will require the Murray Fenton India team to monitor the construction of vessels, ship lift projects and expenditure at the ABG shipyards - Magdalla and Dahej - as well as oversee financial disbursements to the yard. Bibby Ship Management Boosts IOM Business

Bibby Ship Management has more than doubled the number of vessels under its Isle of Man statutory management service since last year, according to figures just released. Latest figures issued by the Isle of Man Ship Registry reveal a flagged merchant fleet of 442 vessels, amounting to 16,235,059 total gross metric tons. Bibby Ship Management provides statutory management services to 71 of these vessels, amounting to more than 4 million gross metric tons - a quarter (25%) of the total registry.

Intrepid trekkers – Jess Kramer, Sarah Ryan, Nicky Davenport and Sandra Corrigan have just arrived home from a trip of a lifetime. All four Bibby Ship Management (BSM) Isle of Man employees took part in the Bibby Line Group ‘Giving Something Back’ Dalai Lama Trek in India, in October. The five day trek saw the team reach an altitude of 3,500 meters, camping in some extreme weather, however with such a fantastic support crew keeping the team firmly on the ground the trip was a great success.

Bibby Ship Management Group Ltd. announced the acquisition of Murray Fenton (India) Surveyors Limited. The acquisition was made via Bibby Ship Management India Pvt. Ltd., and will see India’s service offering expand into marine, cargo and offshore surveying including marine audit services.
