Anglo-Eastern Completes 100th Starlink Maritime Installation

Anglo-Eastern completed the 100th installation of Starlink within its managed fleet last week, mere months after announcing its commitment to the service. The global ship manager has seen an overwhelmingly positive response in respect of both operations and crew wellbeing.Torbjorn Dimblad, Chief Information Officer of Anglo-Eastern, expressed his satisfaction, saying “We now have Starlink-equipped vessels operating in every corner of the world and we are delighted with the service.

Anglo-Eastern Rolling Out Starlink’s Maritime Broadband Service

Anglo-Eastern announced its first formal installation of Starlink’s maritime broadband service within its managed fleet ahead of wider rollout in the months ahead.The installation is part of a preliminary order covering a dozen vessels of various ship types and trading patterns, trialed across a number of scenarios before broader roll-out in the coming months. Anglo-Eastern’s flagship maritime training center in Mumbai recently celebrated the inauguration of its new premises at Leela Business Park in Andheri East. The new training space is home to Anglo-Eastern Maritime Training Centre (AEMTC) Mumbai and the associated partner facilities of MAN PrimeServ, WinGD and Wӓrtsilӓ.After 21 years at its former site, AEMTC Mumbai had outgrown the premises and was due for a refresh. ABS Grants AIP for Anglo-Eastern’s Ammonia-fueled Newcastlemax

Anglo-Eastern Technical Services' (AETS) ammonia-fueled Newcastlemax bulker design has been granted Approval in Principle (AIP) by classification society ABS.The dual-fuel vessel design sacrifices no cargo space by using deck-mounted IMO Type C tanks under the accommodation block on each side of the vessel. AETS has designed the system for retrofit to existing vessels as well as ammonia-fueled and ammonia-ready newbuilds.“Ammonia is a fuel with high potential as a solution for shipping companies looking to decarbonize their operations.

Anglo-Eastern, Naval Dome Ink Cyber MOU

Global ship manager Anglo-Eastern has inked a memorandum of understanding on cyber security with Naval Dome.Signed by Capt. Bjorn Hojgaard, CEO of Anglo-Eastern, and Naval Dome CEO Itai Sela, the agreement underpins the ship manager’s commitment to protecting the vessels and personnel under its management from cyber-attack.Under the agreement, Naval Dome will provide Anglo-Eastern with cyber security research and consultancy services aimed at ensuring its 650+ vessel fleet operates in an environment resilient to the most sophisticated of cyber-attack.

Shipping Industry Unfazed by China Sea Tension

Reuters reports that China's growing military presence in the South China Sea has drawn warnings from the United States that Beijing is seeking to exert control over one of the world's most important sea lanes, but so far the shipping industry seems less concerned. Beijing has been increasingly assertive in staking its claim to almost the whole of the sea, though which trillions of dollars of trade passes each year. Merchant shipping says operations are, as yet, unaffected, despite the diplomatic tensions. "For ship owners, it’s business as usual," said Captain Bjorn Hojgaard, chief executive officer at Anglo-Eastern Univan Group, one of the world's biggest ship management companies.

Shipping Unscathed as China Flights Raise South China Sea Tension

China's growing military presence in the South China Sea has drawn warnings from the United States that Beijing is seeking to exert control over one of the world's most important sea lanes, but so far the shipping industry seems less concerned. Beijing has been increasingly assertive in staking its claim to almost the whole of the sea, though which trillions of dollars of trade passes each year. This month China landed its first test flights on a new 3,000 metre (10,000 ft) runway it has built on a reef in the Spratly Islands, drawing protests from Vietnam and the Philippines which have overlapping claims in the area. Despite the diplomatic tensions, merchant shipping says operations are, as yet, unaffected.

NNPC Bans 113 Oil Tankers from Nigerian Waters

Nigeria's state oil company NNPC has banned 113 oil tankers from the country's waters, citing a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari, in what traders said could be part of efforts to crack down on illegal crude oil trading. The vessels, which include mainly VLCC crude oil tankers, are banned from calling at Nigerian crude oil terminals and also from Nigerian waters with immediate effect, said a letter circulated by NNPC, "pending a notice to the contrary by government". The letter, a copy of which was seen by Reuters and which gave no reason for the ban, was dated July 15. NNPC did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Since taking office in May, Buhari has been working to fulfil a campaign promise to tackle corruption, particularly in the oil industry.
