Contship Italia Signs Iran MoU

Contship Italia Spa, also on behalf of Eurogate GmbH & Co. KGaA, KG, recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) with Sina Port & Marine Company (SPMCO), part of SINA Group which is one of the largest Iranian companies, with interests in various economic activities, such as health care, pension, banking, logistic infrastructure, ports and maritime activities as well as manufacturing and insurance. SPMCO is a public company, organized and existing under Iranian law. SPMCO is the largest port operator in Iran (listed in the Teheran stock exchange) and affiliate company of Bonyad Mostafazan Foundation (BMF) known also as BOBACO which was established in 1997 and is today  one of the largest holding company of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

ACT Burgas Implements Terminal Operating System

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, announced that ACT Burgas, the container department of BMF Port Burgas EAD, has gone live on the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS). ACT Burgas operates in one of only two major Bulgarian ports in the Black Sea, and serves as an East-West transport corridor for trade into the rest of the country. Its decision to modernize port operations and implement N4 comes alongside investment in new port infrastructure, equipment (including mobile harbor cranes, reachstackers and terminal tractors) and a reorganized internal operating structure. Facing expected container growth of up to 10 percent over the next five years, the terminal recognized that its locally developed TOS would not be able to manage operations effectively over time.

British Security Initiative Targets Marine Theft

The British Marine Federation has partnered with security experts Datatag to help owners avoid theft of marine outboards. At the CWM FX London Boat Show today, the two organizations announced a new security initiative called COMPASS; the Combined Official Marine Property and Security System as a technological answer to the issue of theft addressing one of the key weak areas the marine market has which criminals are exploiting – identity. Report: UK Marine Industry has £6.2b Impact

The full economic impact of the U.K. marine industry and spend associated with boating participation was estimated to total £6.2 billion in 2012/13, according to a new report released by the British Marine Federation (BMF). Latest industry trends results also announced by the BMF show encouraging signs of an upward trend for this key contributor to the U.K. economy. The two reports are announced in a week when the U.K. leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry came together at the BMF’s annual conference in Liverpool. In addition to highlighting the impressive £6.2 billion contribution, the BMF’s Economic Benefits of the U.K.

Bollinger Shipyards announce that Daniel “Danny” Richardel has been named Vice President-General Manager of Bollinger Marine Fabricators, Amelia, Louisiana. Ben Bordelon, Bollinger’s Chief Operating Officer said: “Danny has been an integral component of Bollinger’s success in the many commercial and government programs we have completed over the years. His leadership and management skills will help guide the success of our Marine Fabricators facility for many years to come. Bollinger explain that Richardel has been with them for seventeen years working in various operational positions.

2013 ICOMIA/IFBSO Congress News

The 2013 ICOMIA/IFBSO Congress was held in London, United Kingdom from June 11-14,  2013 and was hosted and organized by the British Marine Federation (BMF) at Devonport House, located in London’s exclusive Royal Greenwich, a World Heritage Site. The first two days of Congress consisted of various committee meetings including the first gathering of ICOMIA’s new committees: "Grow Boating," which examines current campaigns dedicated to growing recreational boating globally and the "Exporters Committee," which provides members a forum to share knowledge on export markets, discuss import regulations and exchange information on overseas boat/trade show experiences.

HyMar to Win Award at Mansura Trophy Ceremony

The EU Hybrid Marine (HyMar) Project - a collaborative research project led by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) funded under the EU's Seventh Framework Research Program - will receive an award at the Royal Thames Yacht Club’s Mansura Trophy Awards Ceremony on March 21, 2013 at the Royal Thames Yacht Club. The primary aim of the HyMar project was to provide reliable and practical information about the effectiveness of marine hybrid propulsion in small craft. Extensive, practical testing of many different design concepts over the last three years has led to the development of a range of innovative technologies.

Cape Town Venue for Recent ICOMIA Congress

After registration, delegates were taken on industry site visits to view rig designers, Southern Spars; large sailing-yacht builders, Southern Wind Shipyard, and the state-of-the-art facilities at Quantum Sails, which produce sails for multihulls and keelboats. Two more industry visits followed at catamaran builders Robertson and Caine and Two Oceans Marine. Congress commenced on Wednesday 18 April, and consisted of various committee meetings and the annual ICOMIA/IFBSO Joint Session was held on the Friday. The key note speakers were Michael Lalor of Ernst and Young, who spoke about the African market; Liesl Nel of Moorings, who gave a presentation on the global charter market…

To mark this year’s National Apprentice Week (6 – 10 February 2012), Finning Power Systems (Finning), the UK’s sole supplier of Caterpillar marine engines, is announcing that places are now available for its next intake of marine apprentices. The company is seeking young, enthusiastic talent to join its long-established marine apprenticeship scheme; a scheme that has been offering young people in the UK the opportunity to develop their engineering skills since the early 1960s.

Bollinger Delivers Another Tank Barge to Bouchard

Bollinger Marine Fabricators (BMF), a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has delivered B. No. 233, the second of two double hull, 35,000 barrel (BBL) oil tank barge units built to meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90), to Bouchard Ocean Services, Melville, N.Y. The B. No. 233 is a manned, clean oil, oceans tank barge measuring 300-feet long, with a 64-foot beam and a depth of 21-feet. The barge has ten cargo tanks, with Byron Jackson cargo pumps, driven by John Deere engines.

BMF Delivers RTC 26 and RTC 27

Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., (BMF) Amelia, La., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has delivered the RTC 26 and RTC 27, double hull, oil tank barges built to meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90), to Reinauer Transportation Companies, L.L.C., Staten Island, N.Y. Following the delivery of the RTC 26 and RTC 27, Bollinger announced the signing of a sister ship, Bollinger hull number 543, scheduled for delivery in the 4th quarter of 2008. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Bollinger to Design, Build Five DH Hot Oil Barges

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., signed a contract to design and build five 297.5 ft., 30,000 barrel (BBL), double hull, hot asphalt tank barges for Horizon Maritime LLC, Houston. They are being built at Bollinger’s Marine Fabricators (BMF), Amelia, La., with deliveries planned for the first and second quarter 2005. Lynn Falgout VP of BMF said, “These new barges will be similar to, but not identical to other hot oil barges we built for another customer. Overall, each of the four raked and one boxed barges will be 297.5 feet long with a 54-foot beam and 13 foot depth at the sides…

Bollinger Delivers Barge to Progressive

Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., (BMF) Amelia, La., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has delivered to Progressive Barge Line, Inc., Westwego, La., its first new leading edge double hull OPA’90 Lakes, Bays and Sounds tank barge. Barge PBL 3002 measures 297.6-feet in length, 54.0-foot beam and 13.0-foot depth, with a rated capacity of 28,300 barrels (BBL). Elliot Bay Design Group performed the design and engineering package in support of Bollinger. PBL 3002 departed the Bollinger Amelia facility on October 31st and towed directly to the Progressive Westwego terminal to commence bunkering services on the Mississippi River, throughout the port of New Orleans and the Intracoastal Canal Waterway.

Bollinger Delivers DBL101

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has delivered DBL101, the first of four Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90) double hull, ocean service, oil tank barges to K-Sea Transportation Corp. While the DBL 101 was in the final stages of construction, Bollinger also retrofitted the K-Sea tug TASMAN SEA with a JAK coupler system, creating an ATB unit. Bollinger and K-Sea announced a newbuilding contract in March 2001, for the series of 4 barges with capacities of 80,000 to 100,000 barrels (BBL). Bollinger Marine Fabricators (BMF), Amelia, La., fabricated modules for the new 400-ft. by 74-ft. by 25-ft., 100,000 BBL barge and shipped them to Bollinger Gretna (Harvey, La.) for final assembly and installation of piping and other systems.

Bollinger Delivers Barge to K-Sea

DBL 28 the 1st in a series of eight OPA’90 compliant, Lakes, Bays & Sounds, ABS and USCG certified tank barges delivered from Bollinger to K-Sea Transportation for use in harbor service in ports on the Northeast U. S. Coast. Bollinger Marine Fabricators, LLC, (BMF) Amelia, La., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. company, has delivered the DBL 28, a double hull, oil tank barge built to meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90), to K-Sea Transportation Partners L.P, Staten Island, N.Y. Following the delivery of the DBL 28, Bollinger announced the signing of four sister ships. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The 28,000 BBL capacity DBL 28 measures 297.6-feet in length, with a 54-foot beam and 13-foot depth.
