Maersk Join Forces to Develop LEO

Maersk Develops Ship Fuel from Alcohol

Danish shipping conglomerate A.P. Moller - Maersk has joined forces with Wallenius Wilhelmsen, BMW Group, H&M Group, Levi Strauss and Marks & Spencer to explore LEO, a blend of lignin and ethanol, as a potential future sustainable shipping fuel.The LEO Coalition, which also includes Copenhagen University, will consider the environmental and commercial viability of LEO fuel for shipping. Shipping accounts for 2-3% of global CO2 emissions, a proportion that is set to increase as global trade continues to grow at a sluggish but steady pace. As such, this industry has an urgent need to reduce its environmental impact.The marine sector has very different fuel requirements than automotive or aviation.

Ship Recycling: Wallenius Wilhelmsen Wins Award

Mercury Marine Wins iF Design Award

Mercury Marine won an International Forum Design (iF) award in the Discipline Product category, presented to the company for its V-6 outboard lineup. iF International Forum Design organizes the iF Design Awards each year and has thousands of entries from close to 60 countries compete for the prize. Expansion Begins at Port of Southampton

The latest stage of a GBP 50 million (USD 65.44 mln) expansion of automotive trade at the ABP-owned Port of Southampton has begun, said a press release from the port.Work on the latest  GBP 15 million multi-deck storage facility in the Eastern Dock will take 9 months and will create 3,000 additional spaces for vehicles to be stored. Schaller Takes Over as Head of the Voith Group

As of April 1, 2018, Stephan Schaller has begun in his role as head of the Corporate Board of Management at Voith GmbH & Co. KGaA and will lead the international technology company. He succeeds the long-serving head of the Board, Dr. Hubert Lienhard, who, at the age of 67, is retiring as planned. Schaller has supported Voith since 2015 as a member of Voith’s Shareholders’ Committee. Schaller has many years of international experience in various sectors and industries outside Voith.

Alu Design to Create Next Generation of Marine Chairs

There’s a new designer in the driving seat at Alu Design. Per Ivar Selvaag, the former Lead Designer at BMW Group and Chief Designer of Peugeot’s concept car division, has signed an agreement with the Kristiansand, Norway-based company to design its marine pilot and operator chairs. In what Alu Design CEO Einar Ulrichsen describes as “a huge coup for the business”, Selvaag and his team at San Francisco-based Montaag have agreed to work on the firm’s molded aluminum chairs on an ongoing project-by-project basis. As part of the deal, Montaag will not design marine chairs for any other manufacturer. “This is an incredible development,” said Ulrichsen.

BMW Opens Vehicle Distribution Center at Baltimore Port

BMW Group celebrated the official opening of its newest Vehicle Distribution Center at the Port of Baltimore yesterday. The facility will serve 96 dealers within the Central and Eastern regions of BMW’s dealer network. Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America, and Craig Westbrook, Vice President – Aftersales, BMW of North America, were in attendance and spoke at the opening. “BMW Group year-to-date sales in the U.S. set a new benchmark, topping 246,000 vehicles in the first eight months of this year, and we are full of confidence that we will follow our success through the remaining months of 2014,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. With this new facility, BMW enhances its position at the largest car processing port on the East Coast.

Agreement on Bavaria Yachtbau Restructuring

Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH announced that Anchorage Advisors, L.L.C. and Oaktree Capital Management ), who collectively control approximately 95 percent of Bavaria's $1,403m debt facilities, have signed a binding agreement to restructure the company's balance sheet. The restructuring will create an industry leading balance sheet through a capital injection of $80.4m in cash and the write-down of over 90 percent of the senior and junior debt tranches. Anchorage and Oaktree have been working collaboratively with Bain Capital. Both Anchorage and Oaktree have been lenders to Bavaria for over a year, and support the strategic plan developed by the management team and Bain.
