Gulf Navigation Holding PJSC has announced refinancing 'Gulf Mishref' and 'Gulf Mirdif' petrochemical carriers in less than a month after increasing its capital to AED 1 billion through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The move underlines the increasing demand for the company’s shipping services, which requires increasing its fleet capacity to meet the demand for its services in the region. Sjo Resigns from Polarcus Board of Directors
Polarcus Limited announced that Hege Sjo will resign from its board of directors effective February 2, 2015. Sjo has accepted an appointment as Deputy Director General in the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, and is therefore unable to continue as a board member at Polarcus, the company said. Hege Sjo has been a board member of Polarcus since June 2008.
Nielsen Resigns from StatoilHydro
Kurt Anker Nielsen has informed StatoilHydro’s nomination committee that he is resigning from his position as board member on March 25, with immediate effect as a result of the way the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has handled the issue relating to the company name. Kurt Anker Nielsen was a board member of Norsk Hydro from 2004 to 2007. He has been a member of the board, and chair of the board's audit committee, of StatoilHydro since 1 October 2007. NMRA Officers Elected
The National Marine Representatives Association (NMRA) has elected its 2011-2012 officers and board members. One new officer and three new board members are joining the association's leadership group. Chris Kelly of Waters & David Co., New Orleans, Louisiana, is now president. Kathy Munzinger of Munzinger & Co., Springfield, Missouri, has been elected vice president and Ken Smaga of ComMar Sales LLC, Land O' Lakes, Florida, is now treasurer. Brandon Flack of Atlantic Marketing Co., Stonington, Connecticut, joins the officers as NMRA's new secretary.

Hall Elected President of PVA
Fred Hall was elected PVA 2002 President on Tuesday, February 19 during the PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2002 in Biloxi, Miss. Hall is Vice President and General Manager of the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, Port Jefferson, N.Y., a provider of ferry service across the Long Island Sound. This ferry service has been in business since 1883 and now operates three 100-vehicle/1000-passenger vessels. Prior to being elected PVA President, Hall has served as PVA Vice-President, PVA Secretary-Treasurer and co-chairman of the PVA Legislative Committee. He was also a founding member and a past chairman of the PVA Ferry Council.
Heinz-Werner Hof Joins IAU Board
The International Underwriting Association of London (IUA) has announced that Heinz-Werner Hof, CEO of Allianz Marine and Aviation, has joined its board. Hof was co-opted to the board at its meeting in December. Prior to his current role, Hof was a board member at Allianz-Elementar in Austria, responsible for the property & casualty division. From 1993-2000, he was a board member of Allianz Hamburg and Allianz Globus MAT, holding the chairman's position from 1999-2000. Before that, Hof held various senior management positions within the Allianz Group in Munich, which he joined as an underwriter after graduating in 1977.

DNV GL's CEO Madsen Appointed UN Global Compact Board Member
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Dr Henrik O. Madsen, Group President & Chief Executive Officer of DNV GL, as a new board member to the UN Global Compact board, the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative. As a Board member, Dr Madsen will join other leaders from business, labour and civil society, and serve as a champion of the UN Global Compact and its mission. Dinh-Zarr to Serve as NTSB Acting Chairman
Christopher A. Hart’s term as Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board concluded on schedule Wednesday and Vice Chairman Bella Dinh-Zarr will serve as the agency’s acting chairman. Hart will remain at the NTSB, applying his transportation safety expertise in the capacity of a board member. The NTSB has five board members, each nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate to serve five-year terms. By statute, a board member is designated by the President as Chairman and another as Vice Chairman for two-year terms. The Chairmanship requires separate Senate confirmation.

Chevron To Change Controversial Name Of Tanker
Chevron Corp. has reversed its decision to name an oil tanker after U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, a former board member, Reuters reported. Chevron named the tanker after Rice in April, highlighting what public watchdog groups called the close ties between the Bush administration and the energy industry, but renamed the vessel after complaints grew louder. The spokesman would not comment on whether the White House or Rice requested that the oil tanker be renamed. Rice, a former Stanford University provost, was a Chevron board member from 1991 until Jan. 15, when she resigned after President George W. Bush, a former Texas oilman himself, appointed her as national security adviser.
German Ship Financier Target Asian Private Equity
Germany’s second biggest financier of ships Norddeutsche Landesbank (NordLB) is tapping Asian investors and private-equity funds to invest in its shipping loans. According to a report from Bloomberg, Singapore unit of the state-owned lender last year started creating packages of 10 to 20 vessels for private-equity firms to invest in, Thomas Buerkle, board member responsible for risk management at the bank, said. Bloomberg citing Thomas Buerkle, NordLB's board member, as saying Asian investors believe there are good opportunities amid the shipping slump. In Asia, they are not talking about a shipping crisis, he said. He pointed out that Asian investors put their money in ships, as they believe the slump offers good opportunities.

Hurtigruten Shares at 6-yr High After Bid
Norway's Hurtigruten, which operates scenic cruise lines along the country's fjords and into the Arctic, has agreed to a takeover offer from a group led by several board members, driving its shares to six-year highs. Hurtigruten said on Wednesday it was recommending an offer of 7 crowns per share, a 55.6 percent premium on its last close, led by London-based private equity firm TDR Capital, property tycoon and board member Petter Stordalen and Chairman Trygve Hegnar.
