New Patrol Boat Delivered to Puerto Rico PD

The Puerto Rico Police Department (PRPD) has taken delivery of a new patrol boat from Louisiana-based boatbuilder Metal Shark. The new 35-foot Defiant welded aluminum pilothouse patrol vessel, built at Metal Shark’s Jeanerette, La. production facility, joins the fleet of 36-foot Metal Shark Fearless-class high performance center console patrol boats delivered to the PRPD a year ago. The PRPD’s new patrol boat features a fully-enclosed, climate-controlled pilothouse for all weather operation, outfitted with Shockwave shock-mitigating seating for a crew of four, the builder said.

American Boatbuilders Association Selects Attwood Fuel Systems

Strategic Marine Delivers Two Windfarm Service Vessels

Specialist boatbuilder Strategic Marine delivered the Njord Puffin to offshore windfarm service fleet operator Njord Offshore for deployment in Northern Europe. “The Puffin is the sixth in a series of eight vessels ordered, a strong signal of our commitment to the global windfarm industry,” said Rodney Davies, Operations Manager at Strategic Marine. “Last week we delivered the fifth, the Njord Petrel. Skipjack En Route to West Coast

Penn Maritime's newest vessel, Skipjack, is currently en-route from the builder, Thoma-Sea Boatbuilder, on the Gulf coast to the west coast. It is pushing a new 90,000 barrel tank-barge. A sister ship is expected to deliver from the same yard in October this year. These are a part of Penn's five boat order from the yard.

Volvo Penta Debuts New Ergonomic Controls

Volvo Penta of the Americas will showcase its new-generation mechanical controls for gasoline sterndrives at IBEX 2016. The new controls feature ergonomic levers and grips, tactile switch functions and sleek aesthetics. “In line with our Easy Boating strategy, the new ergonomic controls will make for easier boat driving by operators of all genders with hands of all sizes,” said Marcia Kull, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta of the Americas. The new controls will be available for all OEMs in January.

Willard to Supply Patrol Boats for the Philippines

The U.S. Department of State awarded a contract to boatbuilder Willard Marine, Inc., to provide the Philippine National Police Maritime Group with patrol vessels equipped to conduct search and rescue operations along Philippine maritime borders. This contract marks the third time Willard Marine has been chosen to provide military vessels to the Philippines, the builder noted, adding it has also recently developed boats for international military use by the Navy of Ukraine and the Nepalese Army.

Marine ventilation systems company Delta “T” Systems said it has reconfigured its two 15,000 sq. ft. manufacturing spaces and added tooling and related equipment. The change accommodates the timely construction of the company's new USCG approved A60 Slimline Fire Damper and streamlines the production of the rest of its product lines. According to Delta “T” Systems, the new manufacturing equipment, plus other upgrades throughout the buildings, enhance its efficiency within all of its departments.

NMMA Recognizes JetPac Outboard Propulsion System at IBEX

At the International BoatBuilders~ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) recognized the Diesel JetPac~ Outboard Propulsion System with the NMMA 2003 Innovation Award for engine and propulsion systems October at IBEX, held in Miami, Fla. The JetPac~ from Outboard Propulsion Systems, LLC is a revolutionary new, self-contained propulsion system designed as an alternative to prop driven outboards, inboards and I/O~s. The JetPac~ is powered by an International Engine 2.8L 150-hp turbo diesel engine. The engine is mounted directly on top of a ten-inch 316 stainless steel water jet driven by a Kevlar~ belt and is enclosed in a watertight housing that provides additional buoyancy. JetPac mounts on the transom of most boats.

First of Five ATBs Nearing Completion at Penn Maritime

With delays in getting parts for the assembly there was a hold up in the delivery of the first of Penn Maritime’s new tugs from Thoma-Sea Boatbuilders. Now the first of five, M/V Skipjack, is nearing completion and will deliver in May. In a near assembly-line production process the second vessel, M/V Coho, will launch sometime in May and deliver in August. The other tugs are already taking shape and will follow on a regular schedule. Following its delivery the Skipjack will travel to New Orleans to meet up with a 90,000-barrel barge that will come down from its builders at Corn Island Shipyard on the Ohio River in Indiana. Cummins QSK60 engines turning 104 by 112-inch skewed props in Nautican Nozzles with shutter rudders power the 4000 hp Penn tugs. The coupling system is a JAK-400.

Nichols Bros. To Build Catamaran For Service On San Francisco Bay

The Alameda/Oakland Ferry Service on San Francisco Bay ordered a new 315-passenger catamaran ferry from Nichols Bros. Boatbuilders. Measuring 112 x 33 ft. (34.1 x 10 m), the catamaran, which is being designed by International Catamarans of Australia, is expected to go into service in the fall 2001. The vessel will become the newest member of Nichols-built catamarans that are currently operating between the Alameda area and the San Francisco ferry terminal, as well as other landings by the Alameda/Oakland ferry service. Expected to operate at a maximum loaded speed of 26 knots over its regular 6.5-mile route on the Bay, the vessel will be powered by KTA 38 Cummins engines operating at 1,190-hp driving standard propellers.

Halmatic to Supply Patrol Boats

U.K. boatbuilder Halmatic, part of the Vosper Thornycroft Group, has recently secured a contract to build 20 Halmatic Cougar Enforcer 33 Ultra Fast Patrol Boats for the Royal Oman Police Coastguard. The new craft are to be used for coastal patrol and interception duties along Oman’s coastline. The new patrol boats are based on the Cougar 33 raceboat deep “Vee” hull form. Powered by twin Yanmar inboard marine diesels driving Hamilton waterjets the boats will achieve service speeds in excess of 45 knots. This contract is the first major overseas success for the Halmatic Cougar Alliance, launched in 2001 to design, market and manufacture the Cougar range of ultra fast patrol boats. There are three versions of the Halmatic Cougar Enforcer craft, between 33 ft.
