Bolidt Launches Antimicrobial Decking for Passenger Ships

As cruise ship and other passenger vessel operators look toward the eventual resumption of voyages following the coronavirus health crisis, synthetic applications specialist Bolidt is launching an antibacterial flooring system intended to improve limit the spread of multiresistant bacteria.Originally designed for use in land-based applications such as hospitals and kitchens, the pioneering technology is not only bactericidal but also hygienic and easy to clean, according to the Netherlands-based developer.Jacco van Overbeek…

Royal Approval for Bolidt Cruise Contract

The installation of decking solutions from Dutch company Bolidt aboard one of the largest cruise ships ever to be built in Germany has received a royal seal of approval, after King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands witnessed a contract signing at the Rostock facilities of yard group MV Werften. Dutch Royal Couple Visits MV WERFTEN

Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands called at MV WERFTEN’s Rostock facility in the course of their working visit to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. They were accompanied by the Dutch Infrastructure Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen and the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Manuela Schwesig. The Dutch royal couple’s working visit serves to cultivate and further intensify relations between the two countries.Hundreds of shipyard employees lined up to give the royal visitors a warm welcome on their arrival at the shipyard.

Bolidt: Cruise Refits Surge

Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems says a vibrant cruise ship refurbishment market has brought on an all-time high in refit work, including completion of five major ship projects so far this year, plus bookings for a further seven large ship jobs as part of a workload that the company says includes ‘dozens’ of forthcoming projects planned for well into 2019.In 2018, Bolidt has been a key participant in refurbishment and upgrade projects involving NCL’s Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Star; the RCCL vessels Mariner and Independence of the Seas; and the Azamara Club Cruises ship Azamara Pursuit.

World’s First Shipboard Go-kart Track

The world’s first full-scale shipboard racetrack is now on the water, in a project which has brought the best out of German karting technology specialist RiMO Supply and Dutch decking specialist Bolidt for owner Norwegian Cruise Line. The 326m long, 167,800 gt Norwegian Joy entered the water at Germany’s Meyer Werft in March, offering a glimpse of surface from Bolidt that has been extensively used for road works, car parks and bridges, but which has never before been requested for go-karting afloat.

Refurbishment Program for Viking Cruises

River cruise operator Viking Cruises is taking full advantage of an annual deck maintenance program offered by the Dutch company Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems. A total of 32 vessels – more than half of the Viking Cruises fleet – will have their decking cleaned and renewed at various European ports this winter, with 18 vessels being refurbished in Cologne. Nine more will be refurbished in Vienna, while the remaining five river cruisers will have work carried out in the French ports of Bordeaux and Rouen, or Mainz and Duisburg in Germany, depending on their cruising itineraries.

Support in its domestic market has always been strong, but 2015 has been particularly positive for Bolidt. The company has completed numerous projects for both Dutch shipowners and shipyards, with Bolidt products selected as decking solutions for super yachts, navy vessels, fishing trawlers and ferries. One of the most innovative projects is the ingenious Texelstroom ferry, based on unconventional thinking and close partnerships between C-Job, Vripack and TESO.

Bolidt Decking, Flooring for Viking Cruise Flagship

Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems has secured a contract as exclusive partner to Viking Ocean Cruises for the supply of decking and flooring. The contract covers Viking Star, the first vessel due for delivery in 2015 and its sister ship, Viking Sky, scheduled for delivery in 2016, as well as options on a further two vessels. “Viking Cruises has a long tradition of working with Bolidt through our extensive ‘Longship’ river cruise program,” said Richard Goodwin,Vice President – Engineering, Viking Cruises.

Bolideck Future Teak on Deck for Luxury

Standards set by yacht owners for stylish decking that is also environmentally responsible are being matched in the yacht support vessel market. Dutch flooring and decking specialist Bolidt has secured a new contract to supply and install Bolideck Future Teak for the deck onboard a Fast Yacht Support Vessel under construction at Damen Shipyards Group company Amels, of Vlissingen. The durable, lightweight synthetic decking system with the look and feel of real teak will be fitted on the Sea Axe 6711 Fast Yacht Support Vessel (FYSV), a 67m length vessel due delivery in early 2014. The new vessel is able to accommodate 21 personnel comfortably, and has been designed for relief crews needed for superyacht operations.

Waterfront Entrance for Norwegian Breakaway

Norwegian Breakaway, the largest ship ever constructed in Germany, floated out of Meyer Werft’s covered building dock II at the end of February. The luxury cruise ship will undertake sea trials before her delivery to the owner and passage to her home port of New York by May 7th, 2013. The build project represented Bolidt’s highest profile decking commitment for a maritime customer through 2012, with 16,500m2 of surfacing materials delivered. This year, deliveries of Bolideck 525 and Bolideck Future Teak have already started for sister ship Norwegian Getaway, which is due delivery in 2014.

Bolidt Flooring is Selected for Norwegian Breakaway

Bolidt has announced  that well-known creative forces at Tillberg Design and SMC Design have selected the company to supply flooring for Norwegian Cruise Line’s (Norwegian) newest ship, Norwegian Breakaway. Many of the ship’s main public areas will be enhanced by Bolidt’s subtle and functional surface shades, the designers say. Bolidt, known as the deck and flooring specialists, is supplying 16,500m2 of surfacing for Norwegian Breakaway, including Bolideck 525, a seamlessly applied, skid resistant and shock absorbing deck covering system, or Bolideck Future Teak.

The oil major has selected Boliscreed 400 for the high-profile North Sea unit, which will replace the longstanding Ekofisk H and Ekofisk Q as part of ConocoPhillips plans to prolong activities in the Ekofisk field by up to 40 years. Dutch Decks for German-built Passenger Ships

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft and Dutch deck specialist Bolidt Kunststoftoepassing BV have extended their close relationship. This includes work on the latest cruise ship to be built at Meyer Werft’s Papenburg shipyard. The 130,000gt vessel, delivered this month, is fitted with some 15,500 m2 of Bolidt material for the outdoor decks. The majority of the deck areas, as well as the stairs and steps, have been covered using Bolidt’s environmentally-friendly Bolideck Future Teak…

Keppel Wins $17M Contract

Keppel Shipyard, a member of the Keppel Hitachi Zosen Group, won a $17 million contract from Blue Ice Shipping Corporation to convert a container vessel into a livestock carrier. Maysora -- a 643 x 93 x 52.8 ft. (196 x 28.4 x 16.1 m), 24,515 dwt container vessel will be converted into a fully outfitted livestock vessel with a minimum carrying capacity of 70,560 sheep and 5,640 cattle. Mr Charles Foo, Managing Director of Keppel Hitachi Zosen said, "We were awarded this job based on our competitive pricing and wealth of experience in conversion projects, specifically livestock carrier conversions. During the conversion, Keppel Shipyard will increase Maysora's carrying capacity by maximizing all available space in the vessel.
