Bollinger Delivers USCGC Douglas Denman

U.S. Gulf Coast shipbuilder Bollinger Shipyards LLC has delivered the USCGC Douglas Denman to the U.S. Coast Guard in Key West, Fla. This is the 175th vessel Bollinger has delivered to the U.S. Coast Guard over a 35-year period and the 49th Fast Response Cutter (FRC) delivered under the current program.The USCGC Denman will travel to Alaska where it will be commissioned on September 28 in its new homeport of Ketchikan, in the 17th District of the Coast Guard. New Ocean Transport Barge Arrives at Electric Boat’s Groton Shipyard

On Monday, the new ocean transport barge Holland arrived at Electric Boat’s Groton Shipyard. The barge was purpose-built to support delivery of Columbia class ballistic missile submarines. General Dynamics Electric Boat is the prime contractor on construction of the Columbia class.The Holland was designed by Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) and constructed by Bollinger Shipyards, LLC, of Lockport, La. The namesake of the new barge is John Holland, the Irish-born immigrant who designed the first submarine purchased by the U.S. Navy.

Bollinger Adds New Dry Dock

Bollinger Quick Repair, LLC, a Bollinger Shipyards LLC company, has taken delivery of a new 3,400 ton dry-dock.Built at Bollinger Shipyard’s Amelia, La. facility, the dock is now in service and measures 219’7” X 84’, with a wing wall depth of 15’, and is rated for 3,400 tons, said Bollinger President & CEO, Ben Bordelon.The dry-dock is named in honor of long-time Bollinger employee Eddie Barnes, Jr., who joined Bollinger Shipyards on June 29, 1972 and during his tenure with the company has held various key production positions such as Dockmaster, Foreman and Superintendent.

Kuehne Named GM of Bollinger Quick Repair

Louisiana based shipbuilding and repair group Bollinger Shipyards, LLC, announced it has promoted Matthew Kuehne to General Manager of Bollinger Quick Repair.Bollinger’s CEO and President, Ben Bordelon, said, “[Kuehne] will be responsible for leading and growing the facility as we continue to service the needs of our current and future customers.”Kuehne joined Bollinger in 2011 and has held the positions of Assistant Estimating/Project Coordinator, Estimating/Project Coordinator, Assistant Operations Manager and Operations Manager.

USCG Awards Polar Icebreaker Contracts

The U.S. Coast Guard awarded five firm fixed-price contracts for heavy polar icebreaker design studies and analysis Wednesday. The contracts were awarded to the following recipients: Bollinger Shipyards, LLC, Lockport, Louisiana; Fincantieri Marine Group, LLC, Washington, District of Columbia; General Dynamics/National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, San Diego, California; Huntington Ingalls, Inc., Pascagoula, Mississippi; and VT Halter Marine, Inc., Pascagoula, Mississippi. The combined total value of the awards is approximately $20 million.

Bollinger Delivers 15th FRC to U.S. Coast Guard

Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the JOSEPH NAPIER, the 15th Fast Response Cutter (FRC) to the United States Coast Guard. The announcement was made by Bollinger’s President & C.E.O., Ben Bordelon. “We are very pleased to announce the delivery of the latest FRC built by Bollinger Shipyards, the JOSEPH NAPIER, to the 7th Coast Guard District in Puerto Rico. The 154 foot patrol craft JOSEPH NAPIER is the 15th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program. To build the FRC, Bollinger used a proven, in-service parent craft design based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708. It has a flank speed of 28 knots, state of the art command, control, communications and computer technology, and a stern launch system for the vessel’s 26 foot cutter boat.

Bollinger VP Fanguy Snags SNAME Award

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Bollinger Shipyards, LLC announced its vice president for quality management system, Dennis Fanguy, will receive the 2015 William M. Kennedy from the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME). The award, given in recognition of outstanding service and contribution in the development of systems and planning applying to shipbuilding and ship repair, will be presented to Fanguy at the World Maritime Technology Conference / SNAME Maritime Convention in Providence, R.I. at the President’s Luncheon on November 6, 2015.

Bollinger Achieves Continued ISO 9001 Certification

Bollinger Shipyards, LLC announced that it has achieved continued registration to ISO 9001 for another three years without interruption since 1996. The scope of Bollinger Shipyards certification, issued through Denver-based ISO 9001 management certification firm, Platinum Registration, Inc., includes the design, manufacture, repair and logistical support of marine vessels and their components, as well as in shop and field service repair of AC and DC motors and generators. “This is an important milestone for Bollinger Shipyards, LLC,” said Ben Bordelon, Bollinger President and CEO.

Hands Across the Water

The Metal Shark 165 Defiant, which is an offshore patrol vessel based on Damen’s Stan Patrol 5009. This is one of the Damen designs which will be built at Metal Shark’s Franklin yard.

Bollinger Shipyards LLC has delivered the Isaac Mayo, the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) 12th Fast Response Cutter (FRC) on January 13, 2015 in Key West, Florida. The vessel is scheduled to be commissioned in March 2015. The 154 foot patrol craft Isaac Mayo is the 12th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program. To build the vessel, Bollinger used an in-service parent craft design based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708. According to the builder, the ship has a flank speed of 28 knots…

First 123-ft Deepwater System Cutter Delivered

During a celebration to commemorate the delivery of the first Deepwater surface asset under the Integrated Deepwater System, the Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thomas H. Collins accepted delivery of the vessel and returned the CG Ensign to the USCG Cutter Matagorda today, Friday, March 5, 2004, at Bollinger Shipyards, in Lockport, La. The ceremony celebrated the delivery, which officially occurred on Monday, March 1, of the first newly completed 123-ft. patrol boat, USCGC Matagorda, manufactured by HBJV, a joint venture of Bollinger Shipyards LLC and VT Halter Marine, Inc of Gulfport, Miss.

News: Vessels

On March 30, 2004, the parbuckling of MV Rocknes in Agotnes, Norway, was completed by SMIT Salvage. After two months of preparations, a two-day-long unique operation ensued as the vessel was pulled upright from its upside-down position. The salvors used the Dive Support/Salvage Vessel SMIT Orca, two immersion and salvage pontoons mounted on a semi-submersible flattop barge which together supported the pulling winches, and a supporting barge. On March 28, after pulling the vessel into this 130-degree gradient, salvors pumped water out and air into the vessel in order for it to reach its original draft depth. A team then proceeded with the conservation of onboard instruments and machinery, while the salvors sprayed parts of the vessel with anti-corrosion material. The Rocknes is a 544.6 ft.
