KVH to Transmit AWT Weather Data
KVH says it plans to offer affordable delivery of AWT’s global weather data to subscribing vessels over the mini-VSAT Broadband network. KVH Industries explains that it has become the WEATHERlink launch partner for KVH’s IP-MobileCast content delivery service. KVH will use IP-MobileCast multicasting technology, to deliver AWT’s high-resolution weather and ocean data to ships at sea for a low fixed monthly fee. AWT is a marine industry leader in weather forecasting and ship routing. The AWT data, which includes forecasts with wind, wave, visibility, and currents with tidal stream data, will be updated up to four times per day to help ships optimize voyage planning and safety.
Weather Routing & ECDIS – New Integrated Systems
Applied Weather Technology, Inc. (AWT) and Transas Marine today announced an integration of two key on-board tools – AWT's BonVoyage System (BVS), the popular on-board weather routing system, with Transas' market-leading Electronic Chart Display Navigation System (ECDIS) – to help captains fully optimize their voyage planning. With this union it becomes possible to transfer data from BVS to Transas Navi-Sailor ECDIS and vice-versa to efficiently and safely navigate their voyages. AWT Guides Mercy Ships
Applied Weather Technology (AWT) announced that Mercy Ships, operator of hospital ships delivering free, health care services to the poor, recently used the latest version of AWT’s BonVoyage System (BVS) to help the Africa Mercy navigate the safest and most fuel-efficient course while en route to the ship’s current assignment in Benin, West Africa. AWT first began donating the BVS graphical marine voyage optimization system to Mercy Ships in 2000, and since that time has continued to provide Mercy Ships with complimentary data, system upgrades and support.
