TOP Ships Signs New TC with BP

Greece-based ship-owning company TOP Ships announced that it has agreed a new time charter employment contract for 2 years with BP Shipping Ltd for its product/chemical tanker M/T Eco Revolution.The international owner and operator of modern, fuel efficient “ECO” tanker vessels currently focusing on the transportation of crude oil and petroleum products, said in a press release that the new time charter will commence in January 2019 immediately after the expiry of the present time charter employment contract.The revenue backlog expected to be generated by this fixture is about $10 million.The release quoted Evangelos Pistiolis, the President…

Capital Product Partners Sings Pact for $460 Mln Refinancing

Capital Product Partners  entered into a firm offer letter for a senior secured term loan facility of up to $460.0 million with HSH Nordbank AG and ING Bank as mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners and BNP Paribas and National Bank of Greece S.A. as arrangers. The lenders also include Alpha Bank S.A., Piraeus Bank S.A. and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (Publ). The closing of the credit facility is subject to finalization of the long form loan documentation. "We intend to use the net proceeds of the loans under the New Facility, together with available cash of approximately $120.6 million, to refinance, four out of five of our existing credit facilities amounting to $580.6 million in total," says a statement from the company.

CSA Awards Vessel Safety

The U.S. maritime industry publicly recognized the merchant mariners responsible for safe ship operations at the Annual Safety Awards Luncheon held on June 7, 2017. In all, 211 people, representing 53 companies and their subsidiaries attended the annual industry-sponsored event where 1,582 vessels with 10,604 cumulative years of accident free operation were recognized. Since 1958, the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) has also sponsored the Safety Achievement Award program which recognizes outstanding feats of safety that contribute to saving a life, a ship or other property.

Greek Owners CPP Charter Out Three Tankships

Capital Product Partners L.P. (CPP) an international diversified shipping company, says it has secured time charter employment for the M/T ‘Avax’, M/T ‘Agisilaos’ and M/T ‘Alkiviadis’. M/T ‘Alkiviadis’ (36,760 dwt, IMO II/III Chemical/ Product Tanker built 2006 Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, South Korea) was employed with CSSA S.A., a fully owned subsidiary of Total S.A., for one year (+/‐ 30 days) at a gross daily rate of $14,125. CSSA S.A. has the option to extend the charter for an additional year (+/‐ 30 days) at $15,125 gross per day. Previously the vessel was employed under a time charter to Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. (‘CMTC’) at a gross rate of $14,250 per day. The new charter commenced in September 2014. This marks the opening of a new time charter relationship of CPLP with CSSA S.A.

Kongsberg Wins Contract for 14 BP Tankers

Kongsberg Maritime has secured contracts for the delivery of fully integrated navigation and automation systems for a series of 14 crude/product tankers ordered by BP shipping Ltd. The new builds will be delivered by STX Offshore and Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. by September 2016. The contracts, which were awarded through an international open tender, are valued at approx. NOK 145 Million. Kongsberg Maritime will deliver ‘Full picture’ integrated vessel control systems including navigation, communication, and automation of machinery and propulsion systems. Included in the Kongsberg  scope of supply is also a state-of-the-art tank monitoring and gauging system, based upon advanced radar technology.

POLB 'Green Flag', 'Green Ship', Program Awards

The Port of Long Beach's Green Flag and Green Ship annual awards honored 20 shipping lines for efforts to improve air quality. Efforts to improve air quality locally were accomplished by slowing ships down or deploying cleaner vessels, or both. The Port’s Green Flag Program was created in 2005 and participation today is nearly universal. In 2012, almost 96 percent of all ships calling at Long Beach slowed to 12 knots within 20 nautical miles of the Port. In 2009, the Port added the 40 nautical mile option and last year, more than 83 percent of vessels slowed from 40 nautical miles.

BP Order 13 New Tankships

BP Plc confirms an order for 13 of the vessels, 2012’s largest tankship shipbuilding order. According to information obtained by Bloomberg the order, placed with Changwon, South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Company, includes three Suezmax ships, each able to hold 1 million barrels of crude, and 10 smaller Aframaxes. BP Shipping Ltd., based in Sunbury-on-Thames, England, manages a fleet of more than 50 vessels that carry crude, oil products and liquefied natural gas. Source: Bloomberg

Capital Product Partners Recharters M/T Arionas

Capital Product Partners L.P. (NASDAQ: CPLP) announced that it had reached agreement with Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. to recharter the M/T Arionas for a period of 12 months (+/- 30 days) from the expected expiration of its current charter in June 2010. The M/T Arionas (2006, MR product tanker, Hyundai MIPO Dockyard, 37,000dwt ICE Class 1A) was fixed at a gross rate of $12,000 per day ($11,850 net) with a subsidiary of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp., the Partnership's Sponsor. The charter is subject to a profit sharing arrangement which allows each party to share, at a 50/50 percentage, additional revenues earned for breaching the International Warranty Limits.

Crude Carriers Receives M/T Aias, Option on M/T Atlantas

Crude Carriers Corp. (NYSE: CRU) announced that it took delivery of the M/T Waltz to be renamed M/T Aias (150,096 dwt), June 3, 2010. In addition, the 12-month fixed-price option to acquire the M/T Atlantas from Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. commenced on June 1, 2010. The M/T Aias, a modern, high-specification Suezmax-class oil tanker was built in 2008 at Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Japan, the same yard as its sister ship M/T Amoureux which was delivered to the company on May 10, 2010. The vessel was acquired at a purchase price of $66.2m, a cost significantly below the average 10-year historical values and is the fourth vessel of the Company's fleet to be delivered.

Updates on the Shipdex™ Protocol

On October 7th 2008, Digital Ship held its 2nd conference for Shipdex™, a new protocol to provide ship technical information electronically, rather than on paper. Shipdex™ was founded in 2007 by two senior managers of shipping companies, Grimaldi Naples and Intership Navigation, who thought that the industry should move beyond supplying all technical paperwork (including maintenance and repair manuals, lists of spare parts and drawings) as paper documents, which then have to be typed into company maintenance and purchasing systems.

Capital Product to Buy Tankers

Capital Product Partners LP has signed a nonbinding letter of intent to buy two vessels from Capital Maritime & Trading Corp., for total of $118m. The deal is expected to be completed by April. The first vessel, valued at $95m, is a 2001-built, 159,982 deadweight ton double hull tanker. The vessel is chartered to BP Shipping Ltd. under a charter at a gross rate of $36,456 per day. The charter has a term through at least January 2011, and includes a profit-sharing arrangement that calls for BP and Capital Product to equally split any additional revenue. The second, worth $23 million, is a 12,000 deadweight ton double hull product tanker built in 2005. The tanker is chartered to Shell International Trading & Shipping Company Ltd.

SembCorp Gets BP Shipping Deal

Singapore's Sembawang Shipyard Pte Ltd., a subsidiary of SembCorp Marine, has entered an agreement to repair the Far East fleet of BP Shipping Ltd. for an indeterminate amount of time. Sembawang Shipyard managing director Heng Chiang Gnee said the company expects to refit and drydock about 12 of BP Shipping's fleet of 30 in a typical year. He said he expected a typical contract value of about $1.2 to $1.7 million to repair each of the vessels.

National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO, www.nassco.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has joined BP p.l.c. in naming the Alaskan Explorer, the second of four Alaska-class double-hull oil tankers being built for BP Oil Shipping Company, USA. Maureen Hayward, spouse of Tony Hayward, Group Chief Executive of Exploration and Production for BP, was the ship's sponsor, officially naming the Alaskan Explorer and striking a ceremonial bottle of champagne across the ship's hull.

Rutter Delivering Ice Navigation Systems to BP

Rutter Technologies is now delivering its sigma S6 Ice Navigator systems to UK based BP Shipping Ltd. Rutter’s sigma S6 Ice Navigator provides greatly enhanced radar imaging of sea ice conditions in the vicinity of a vessel, significantly improving the ability to navigate efficiently and safely through icy waters, day or night, irrespective of weather conditions. This additional level of detail enables the ship to identify and subsequently maneuver around difficult areas, saving both time and fuel while minimizing the potential for ice damage.

NASSCO Delivers Final Tanker to BP Shipping

General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, delivered a fourth and final double-hulled oil tanker, the Alaskan Legend, to BP Shipping Ltd. The Alaskan Legend will depart San Diego on August 21, to join its NASSCO-built sister ships already in service: the Alaskan Frontier, Alaskan Explorer and Alaskan Navigator. The ship is capable of carrying up to 1.3 million barrels of crude oil and will operate between Alaska and western U.S. ports. The ship is double-hulled, diesel-electric powered, equipped with 20 separate cargo tanks, and has all of its cargo transfer piping inside the hull rather than on its decks to reduce the chance of accidental spills. NASSCO began constructing the ship in October 2004.

NASSCO Holds Naming Ceremony for Final BP Tanker

General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, held a ceremony to name the fourth and final double-hulled oil tanker it is building for BP Shipping Ltd., the Alaskan Legend. The ceremony took place at the NASSCO shipyard. Shirley Anne Massey, the wife of Morehouse College president and BP board member Dr. Walter Massey, was the honoree at the ceremony and is the ship’s sponsor. As ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Massey named the ship and broke the traditional bottle of champagne against it. Construction of the Alaskan Legend began in October 2004.
