RWE Dea Norge completes Titan Appraisal Well
RWE Dea Norge AS, operator of production licence (PL)420, is completing drilling operations on appraisal well 35/9-11-S and sidetrack 35/9-11-A on the Titan discovery, 16 kilometres west of the Gjøa Field in the North Sea. The purpose of the well was to delineate the Titan discovery towards the south and to reduce the uncertainties in reservoir thicknesses and reservoir properties. With the appraisal well, oil was proven in the Heather Formation, the Brent Group, the Drake Formation, the Cook Formation and the Statfjord Formation. RWE Dea Norge carried out extensive data collection and sampling of the reservoir, including five so-called mini-DSTs.
Statoil Makes Gullfaks Discovery
Statoil and partner Petoro have proven additional resources in the Shetland Group/Lista Formation in the Gullfaks license. The Shetland Group and the Lista Formation are younger and slightly shallower deposits with different properties compared to the deposits of the Brent Group where the Gullfaks main reservoirs are located. Indications of hydrocarbons in the Shetland Group/Lista Formation in the Gullfaks license have been known for a long time, but they have not yet been developed due to poor reservoir qualities. A new well test in this interval however indicates good flow rates. Another discovery in the Gullfaks area
Statoil’s drilling of the Skinfaks South well in the North Sea has been completed and the estimated volume is between 1.9 and 6.9 million barrels of oil equivalents. This is the fourth infrastructure-near discovery in the Gullfaks area in a 10 month period. Light oil has been confirmed in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (Brent group) and a 80 metre high column in good-quality reservoir rocks. "We are currently evaluating how this discovery can be connected to the existing infra-structure," says Tore Løseth, exploration vice president for North Sea.
Statoil: Third Gullfaks License Discovery
An exploration well and a sidetrack currently being completed by Statoil near Gullfaks South have yielded the third discovery made in the Gullfaks licence so far this year. Oil Discovery in The North Sea
Oil has been proven by Statoil and its partners Det norske oljeselskap ASA and Svenska Petroleum Exploration AS on the North Sea Krafla prospect. The well is located in block 30/11 around 26 kilometres south of the Oseberg South field. Based on preliminary calculations the size of the discovery is between 12.5 and 56.5 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent. ”Statoil has had great exploration success in mature areas during the last years,” says Gro Gunleiksrud Haatvedt, Statoil’s head of exploration on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS).
Another North Sea Oil Find
A small oil discovery has been made by StatoilHydro in the Titan prospect directly east of northern Visund in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea. Made by exploration wells 34/8-13 A and 34/8-13 S, this strike is estimated to contain 5.6-12.5 million recoverable barrels of oil equivalent. A tie-in to Visund will be assessed. Intended to prove petroleum in the Brent group, the discovery wells were drilled in a structurally complex area. While 13 A found a small oil column in Upper Jurassic sands, the underlying Brent group proved to be an aquifer. Well 13 S, drilled 2.7 kilometres to the south-east, found oil in the Brent group. The wells were drilled from Scarabeo 5, which has moved to PL 199 for a workover of production well 6406/2-S-4 H.
New Discovery Near Existing Infrastructure
Oil and gas have been encountered by StatoilHydro in the Katla prospect, 11 kilometres south-west of the Oseberg South platform operated by the group in the Norwegian North Sea. Proven recoverable volumes are 50-80 million barrels of oil equivalent, with the bulk of the resources occupying the Tarbert formation in the upper Brent group. Gas and Condensate Find in Frigg Area
StatoilHydro has completed the drilling of an exploration well in the Fulla prospect, north-east of the Frigg field in the North Sea. Gas and condensate were found. Exploration well 30/11-7 was drilled by the West Alpha semi-submersible drilling unit in production license PL 362/PL035B. The purpose of the drilling was to prove hydrocarbons in the Brent group, in Middle Jurassic rocks near the abandoned Lille Frigg field. No hydrocarbons were found in the upper part of the Brent group which was the main target of the exploration well. But hydrocarbons in the form of gas/condensate were discovered in the lower parts of the Brent group. The well has proven recoverable volumes in the region of 6-19 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Drilling Complete on Gas/Oil Discovery
StatoilHydro has completed the drilling of an appraisal well on the Pan/Pandora gas/oil discovery south of the Visund field in the North Sea. The purpose of well 34/8-14 A was to delineate the 34/8-14 S Pan/Pandora discovery in the northern segment of this structure. "The area south of Visund has a considerable remaining resource potential, and we are very pleased that the expectations as to the northern extension of the discovery now have been confirmed," says the head of infrastructure-led exploration west, May-Liss Hauknes.
